"Wasted potential, undeserved 5-Star rating, not Marriott standard"
I have stayed in Marriot hotels in several other countries and find this hotel to be below the Marriott standard. Location is the only redeeming quality of this hotel honestly. Pros: - Location close to Alster Basin and the nice shopping area nearby, in addition to the Rathaus and Monckebergstrasse a little further away. - Comfortable beds, with regular sized rectangular pillows, thankfully NOT the standard square German pillow nor the small individual sized covers. Cons: - No free wifi in rooms (free wifi in the lobby only, which is accessible to any passerby, why they would provide that but not the same to their paying customers in rooms, just baffles me) in this day and age, it has become standard in even 3-4 star hotels (you have to be a member of their rewards program and book directly with them otherwise. No thank you). I did raise that point with reception and they only replied that they're sorry but it's not their decision, which is a very strange response, they must have thought I mistook them for Marriott's regional manager or something (sarcasm) - Room is cold, no matter how high we turned on the AC, it's just not warm enough - Bathroom has zero ventilation, so when we showered it got so full of steam/vapor you could not use it again for a good 15-20 minutes with the door open - Minibar is empty - Complimentary tea and coffee with a boiler-kettle, but the water isn't complimentary - Furnishings are a little dated, some squeaky drawers here and there but nothing major. The style is classic not modern but that's more of a taste preference, not a negative point P.S. This review is for the community, not for the management's standard set reply every one seems to be getting; that renovations are coming at an unknown time in the future. Thank you!
"Hamburg Marriott Hotel"
I would give this hotel 10/10 for everything but I am going to give them only 9.5/10 for breakfast because they were perfect in every other way. The precooked element of breakfast - sausage, egg etc in the warming containers was slightly cold. Either they were not set at right temperature or the contents were put in them too early. The quality of the breakfast elements/ingredients themselves were excellent
This was our first visit to Hamburg so in order to learn more about the city we opted to stay in two different hotels in different areas. This was by far the better of the two and price comparison for our family of four was very favourable. Its location is excellent with restaurants, bars and shops on your doorstep. There's a metro stop a couple of minutes away and all main tourist sites are within walking distance. The lobby and reception areas are beautiful. As you expect with Marriott, they are traditionally furnished, very clean and well kept. The club lounge, located on the fifth floor is small but there was always a place to sit even during the busy evening canapes and breakfast times. Most chairs are dining table style with just four relaxing chairs and lower tables. Soft drinks are available all day along with bottles of Becks. There was a smallish range of good quality evening canapes along with wine. No spirits though. Staff were professional and friendly. We had afternoon cocktails in the Piano Bar, which were professionally made and beautifully presented. There's an excellent cocktail menu that includes all the usual favourites. The spacious junior suite was dual aspect with plenty of natural light. It was furnished in the traditional Marriott red, gold and wood and felt clean and modern. The in-room minibar is not stocked on arrival but you can purchase items from reception. Alternatively, it's a handy space to store your own items. Toiletries were a combination of L'Occitane and Acca Kappa. The swimming pool is a good size with several loungers and seating areas around. The female changing rooms are however a little basic and I would expect a better selection of amenities to be included. Overall, an excellent stay and should we find ourselves back in Hamburg, we would stay here again without any hesitation.
"Super location but old fashion style..."
We chose the Marriot Hotel, because of its location and the winter Swimming pool, unfortunately the swimming pool water was so cold that we just used it the first day, but the second one, we didn´t manage to stay there more than 5 minutes due to the water temperature. Also relevant to remark that there are 2 time slots (3 hours morning and 3 hours afternoon) in which the pool can be used by children.. The service is nice, the breakfast has good quality but the old fashioned style made me feel like in mid 80´s, in general everything was ok, but my expectations where higher, may be it didn´t help that we came from another hotel in Hannover, 4 stars, in which the swimming pool was great, it also had a Jakuzzy , no time restrictions for children, and everything was super new...
"Friendly staff and service at hotel"
Staff at reception were very friendly and courteous. The room was spacious and very clean. The tea/ coffee station in the room was very welcome. The hotel is also centrally located. A generous menu at breakfast! Items for the mini bar can be taken from Reception and billed on check out.
