"A safe bet to experience Hong Kong"
The hotel was pricier than many we'd considered and we perhaps didn't realise how far out of the way it was. But it was clean, had a huge bed, we slept brilliantly and there was a free shuttle into the centre which was really helpful. Our room had a very bog standard view but we didn't see the value in paying extra. There was a lot of construction going on but it didn't impact our stay. When enjoying the view on the rooftop, it was all happening behind us so we didn't mind too much.
"A quality hotel with a central location"
The Harbour Grand is a large hotel facing the harbour, with many rooms enjoying great views (albeit some being lost now to new adjacent buildings). The lobby is grand with amazing marble and chandeliers. For a drink, head to the rooftop bar for excellent views of the harbour and laser show. Rooms are basic and typical of HK size but the bathrooms are quite spacious with a full bath and separate shower. Gym is excellent, although the pool is closed during Winter months.
"Great design but terrible staff and location"
I'd stayed at this hotel back in December '13 with my family and some friends (couldn't find that option in the dates and put the oldest one available). Have been wanting to complain about this hotel for quite a while now and signed up just to do that. Had a horrible experience right from the start. The receptionist was AWFUL and not one bit friendly. Seemed like a race thing since we're Indians and she seemed to be perfectly nice to the White folks who were before us. Got our room after a LOT of waiting despite being on time (the room was allegedly not ready). The breakfast buffet was nice, but once again the staff was just intolerable. They were impertinence personified and being around them was simply dreadful. Never felt welcomed. Also, the location was quite terrible. We had to travel quite a lot to get to the attractions and this wasted a lot of precious travel time. The hotel was breathtaking to look at and it overlooked the harbour (which was quite aesthetically pleasing). The housekeeping was quite polite and that was a pleasant surprise. The WiFi was terribly expensive and wasn't one bit worth it. Wouldn't ever recommend this place. Certainly not worth the money we paid and definitely not the 5 star it claims it is.
Stayed here for a number of nights over the new year. The hotel is excellent. The staff are very helpful (we put them to the test when our 4 year old son vomited on the bed at 4am!). Complimentary water, tea & coffee in your rooms. Massive bed!! The ONLY 'bad' thing about it is that it's a little out of the thick of it....HOWEVER there is a free shuttle bus to/from TST and the MTR is only a 5 min walk (even walking to TST is easy as there is a promenade all the way down that takes 20-30 mins to do). But the hotel is amazing!!!
"You will feel special staying here"
You will feel special staying here, the lobby is very posh, as are their six restaurants and multiple bars and the rooftop jacuzzi and pool. The room was huge and had harbour views (we upgraded the cheapest room to the deluxe one for £9 a day more after booking) This hotel is positioned very well. We stayed for Chinese new year and could walk to the parade and watch the fireworks clearly from the hotel. There is a ferry to North Point literally 1 min walk away and two metro stations within 5 mins. There are many good restaurants and 2 coffee shops as well as a supermarket in the area.
