"Insult to Injury"
This place has definitely seen better days and is in desperate need of updating. It started the moment I walked into the room and tried to put some bottled water in the mini-fridge. When I opened the door to the cabinet that usually houses it, I realize it had been crudely ripped out. No big deal, the ice machine was right outside my door (more on that later). That problem solved, I turned my attention to the room being roughly 97 degrees. When I tried to turn down the thermostat, it was so gross and sticky that I ended up hitting the down button with a pen rather than have to actually touch it. Add to that some tattered drapes, stained carpet and the usual signs of wear that practically scream for an update. But hey, at least the bed was comfortable. That is, until the housekeeping staff showed up at 4 a.m. and began their morning routine of opening and shutting the door to the maid closet approximately a thousand times. Yes, despite the hotel not being very busy (as evidenced by the cheap rate I got) I was given a room directly in the middle of the maid closet and the ice machine. Gee, thanks. All of that would have been bad, but I probably wouldn't have bothered to bash them. That is, until I checked my credit card statement and realized I had an extra $65 charge. When I called and talked to accounting, they said that it was for parking (incidentally, I don't have a car). Rather than just apologizing and removing the charge, she kept me on the phone, asking me a bunch of questions in an accusatory tone and saying she'd have to talk to the valet. Rather than just, you know, trusting the guest. Fed up, I talked to the hotel manager who repeated that they'd have to call me back. Yes, by all means, take more of my time. It's a shame. This used to be my go-to hotel in the city. But that was quite a few years ago. And this place has not aged particularly well.
"Mother/Daughter weekend at Hard Rock Hotel"
My daughters and I have a longstanding tradition of weekend getaways to my favorite destination city! One weekend, we stayed at Hard Rock Hotel and LOVED IT! From the plethora of artwork and memorabilia of famous rockers on each floor to the spacious room and stunning view - it was a dream weekend. The bathtub (strategically placed by a picture window) was a perfect spot to soak our cold, tired feet after an invigorating day of Chicago walking! So many pampering amenities and a very comfortable bed! Would love to stay there again.
"All was good"
Staff was nice, concierge was helpful, good location, and easily accessible to anywhere in town by taxi or foot. Hotel bar seemed like it was sub let to another restaurant. I would stay there again, but only if I got a good price.
"Once great, not as of late"
I stayed at this hotel in 2006 and really liked it. Today, the hotel is showing a lot of wear with a lot of the details being overlooked. Good: The service was good with quick check in and an upgrade to a higher floor and bigger room. The location is fantastic The Breakfast (Frosted Flake French Toast) at Chuck's was really good and the service was friendly. Problems: The toilet paper roll holder is falling off the wall. The iron didn't work. The safe battery ran out with my stuff inside. The shower head is loose and won't stay pointed anywhere other than straight down. The sheets seem old and not as white as they should be. The WiFi was spotty. A lot of renovation needs to be done to consider this a four star hotel. With so many options around, I don't think I'll be staying here again anytime soon.
"Big rooms and good location"
This hotel location is on the Michican Avenue where the most of the shops are. Room was really big with two king size beds and nice decorate with the Rock legens. Only thing what I was missing is breakfast, but you can easily find the good restaurants near the hotel
