"Excellent position to the center"
Very near to everything important in the city: Kamppi complex, 24/7 clinica ooposite Kamppi, resturants, metro, buses & shops. Good service at reception & inside, I asked for extra blanket & they bring it as soon as possible.
We stayed for 4 nights in Feb and loved lots of things about this hotel. We booked and paid for our stay directly with the hotel online, and although check in was smooth, easy and friendly we had been given a twin room instead of a double. This was addressed with a minimum of fuss and we were given a new room the next night that was actually an upgrade from the premium Mansikka we booked, to one with a private sauna (and heated towel rail - nice!). Both rooms were great in their own way, well layed out with good size showers. Only negative on the second room is that being at the front of the hotel it is on the main road and a block up from Bar Bakkari, a metal bar that rocks til the wee hours (about 4am!) on the weekends, so earplugs are a must if you are a light sleeper. The thing that really stands out about Hotel Helka though is it's attention to detail with important things like supporting and using ethical products. The shower products were lovely and the breakfast was superb. Organic, fresh, free-range products that were well prepared and delicious was a wonderful way to start each day. Easily the best breakfast buffet of our trip to Finland and Tallinn. The location is also great, being super close to Kamppi station as well as only an easy 10 - 15 min walk from the heart of the shopping district. Just one picky comment that the hotel management may like to address is that the ironing board in the ironing room desperately needs a new cover with some padding to stop you ironing 'bar marks' onto your clothes.
I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Helka! The staff were friendly, the location was great (close to shops and public transport) and the room - although small - had everything I needed. The breakfast selection at the buffet was great and dinner in the restaurant was delicious. The service was wonderful at both! I didn't get a chance to visit the sauna but would have loved to. Overall I would definitely recommend Hotel Helka. If I am lucky enough to return to Helsinki I will stay here again.
"I don't understand the positive reviews !"
I really don't understand the positive reviews for this hotel (real reviews ''). It's an old and dilapidated hotel... When I arrived, a "receptionist" (absolutely not friendly) just told me to 'check in' by myself (on a kind of computer...). No more information about the bedroom or anything. There was very very bad smell in my bedroom (and it is impossible to open the window); the bathroom is small (and very low water pressure). In addition to this, the sauna was closed ('under maintenance') and there were renovation works everywhere in the hotel. I think I had better stop there... In other words : horrible hotel ! I was so disappointed.
"Great City Hotel!"
Stayed a few nights at Helka. It was a great home base to explore Helsinki. Centrally located and yet still quiet. (Trams and Buses nearby). Helpful staff, clean modern rooms. Mind you, the rooms were not big but had everything you needed including a little balcony. We made good use of their Sauna (it came with instructions :) - it is Finland after all. :)
