"Holiday of a lifetime!"
Beautiful hotel and location. Our initial greeting by staff set the tone - smart, efficient, helpful. All the staff at reception were superb throughout our stay, thanks Anita. The lay out of the hotel is good with a view across the pool to a stunning sea with a narrow sandy beach. The accommodation is arranged in mostly 2 storey 'houses' of four rooms/suites. By chance we ended up seeing several rooms and all are well appointed with good beds and large bathrooms and nice oulooks. Having good beach towels changed as often as you liked was good, I think a supply at the pool might be good. Having said that, I am sure the staff would get you one with a smile if you asked. All the rooms have nice balconies and even the garden rooms have a good outlook and may be a bit quieter. We were inclusive ('gourmet bliss') which we would recommend for value and overall good range of choice, lovely not to have to think about money. We eat at Arabela's, Palmier, Jin'ja', C Beach and the Chateau. All but the chateau (1 minute shuttle) were on site at Telfair and offered a varied selection of great food. Each restaurant has a different feel and we never had anything that wasn't excellent. Service everywhere was also really good. Although apparently not often top choice we really liked Jin'ja for lunch and dinner - Interesting combination of asian food with a stunning setting and, as ever, lovely staff. We found the initial booking of dinner reservations a bit odd and we would suggest you get that sorted very soon after arrival - they get booked up so you may need to juggle which night you eat where (thanks Nima). Also as our stay crossed into a new month, the computer system couldn't cope until the day before the start of the new month (bizarre). We played golf several days. Good course, easy shuttle from hotel (we often walked as it was so close) well kept, nice club house. Excellent that you can leave your clubs there during your stay. Tee times get booked up a long way in advance, so book as soon as you can before you go. Mostly 4 balls and the marshall needs to push play on more often. It should be easy as, if you are off their generous fairways, your ball is gone! Clubhouse staff lovely especially Manisha. Canoes, a few dinghies, windsurfers all easily available and we enjoyed the Glass bottom boat and snorkelling (all included). We went into the local national park on a 'buggy' trek - good to see some ebony and swam in some waterfalls. Quite dusty but good fun. The spa is a hidden gem and we would definitely do again but allocate ourselves more time (2-3hours) to really chill either side of the massage which was wonderful. The tennis courts (3) are in great condition and not used much as it is pretty hot! We took rackets but they do have everything there. Just a big thank you to all the staff, who greeted you with a smile everywhere. Special mention for reception managers Nishai and Jimmy who helped to make this a fantastic trip. Can't wait to go back!
Location: Far from the airport, the tourist attractions, the turquoise blue seas, local markets, bars and restaurants. If you stay there you either rent a car and drive about an hour to get to one of those places or you don't go out the resort! Infrastructure: Great! The rooms are well-equipped, the pools, restaurants and bars are beautiful and comfortable! Spa: great! The best think in the resort! I had manicure, pedicure and massage. They're all great! Internet: Works mostly everywhere in the resort. Restaurants: The booking system is very confusing! It's advertised that the complex has 12 restaurants, however they aren't open everyday. There's a schedule and you have to book in advance for the table and also for the meal you want! The food is good. The service is uneven: good in some restaurants, such as Annabella; awful in others, such as Infinity blue (I had to search for the waiter to order and he lost my bottle of wine, which he brought to the bar instead of putting in a bucket of ice in front of me), average in the others. Room service: annoying! Some kits and hygienic products were only refilled upon demand! The staff knocked on my door twice in the morning, before 9 am, once to check if there was a sofa bed in the room (!) and the other to fix the toilet flush, which was working perfectly! If they wanted to contact me, they would ring the phone insistently, ignoring that I could be unwilling to answer that! In sum, I was looking for a relaxing holiday! I chose a place far from the most touristic beaches to escape traffic, crowded restaurants. I also wanted some privacy and no need to schedule all the activities! None of this I found there! I'm sure they're worried about their client's satisfaction and their reputation, because I complained about the above mentioned points and they tried to make up with a room upgrade and other offers. However this hasn't really changed my opinion. I think that if I go back there, I'll have the same complaints.
"Beyond perfect honeymoon!!!"
My wife and I recently had our Honeymoon at Heritage Le Telfair, and had the most perfect time imaginable. We have had the pleasure of seeing many top hotels worldwide, but Le Telfair is in a class of its own, simply outstanding! There is certainly a wide choice of beachfront hotels on Mauritius which makes it difficult for 'first timers' to choose where to stay, but we had some great advice from friends and are so glad we took it. Fresh from the Airport, we were greeted at the beautiful colonial entrance by Savilan, one of the nicest people we have ever met, who knew exactly who we were on arrival and for the next 7 days gave us the impression he was our own private butler. He was so attentive and always asked if anything more could be done. He deserves a medal. The restaurant staff at Cavendish, Annabella's and Gin'ja and the beach bar were fantastic, all so friendly, attentive and always remembered us and took time to ask how we were. The room was superb! Most rooms have direct sea views (rooms only ground floor and first floor), and we felt more like we were in a beachfront mansion than a hotel. The view we woke up to each morning was breath-taking, so much so that we slept with the curtains open just to be woken up at 5am to the magical sunrise. Suzy, from house-keeping was wonderful and went above and beyond in making our room a pleasure to come back to....often with rose petals and bubble bath's waiting for us when we returned from the beach. She really deserves a special mention and 'when' we return, we really hope to have the pleasure of being of her assistance again. Most staff seemed to have all been there for a long time, which it always encouraging for returning guests. The facilities within the resort were also fantastic, too much choice for a 7 days trip, but all equipment was top quality. The beach is like the postcards you always chose to send home to make friends and family jealous, and it never got boring. The ocean was crystal clear and absolutely perfect for swimming (all levels). We are in our early 30's, the average age was probably a little over that, but the majority of guests were couples too. There were probably 2/3 couples with kids in the whole resort who also looked like they were having a fabulous time! All in all, we had the trip of a lifetime and our honeymoon was absolutely perfect. The staff were superb, the room was delightful and the attention to detail throughout the colonial style resort was absolutely top class. It was evident that many guests have been returning for years, so 'proof is in the pudding', this is a tropical island paradise!!! Thank you for a wonderful stay, see you again soon! James & Anja
This hotel is the most fantastic place i have ever visited. The location, the food, the staff and the wonderfull golf course. ( remember to make reservations for playing when you order your stay, otherwise, it can be difficult to get 18 holes,- we had a little problem about that, but of course the fantastic staff sorted it out) We stayed at a beachfront room, just went out with our masks and snorkels in the mornings directly to the corals and lots of fish.
The Telfair is a lovely resort. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who were exceptionally kind and helpful. The food was excellent, so much choice and wonderful tasty dishes. The staff at the pool bar were always very helpful, bringing water, fruit kebabs and sorbet to everyone relaxing by the pool daily. The golf course was enjoyable and there are many water sports to try. The rooms are a little dated but are being refurbished in a few months time. We thought a lot about whether to pay for Gourmet Bliss and decided against it. This was the right decision for us. We would definitely return to the Telfair. Many thanks to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable.
