Fantastic and excellent hotel. A very good extensive breakfast with large choice. A bit further away from the Centre and the City famous beaches but many better shopping malls in Barra de Tijuca and large white sandy more silent Brazilian populated beaches.Comment of W. "Best in class service and hotel facilities for a relaxing and cosy trip"
We enjoyed our stay at Hilton Barra. We went there after few days at Rio downtown (Lapa) and stayed for four nights. Concierge superb, who provided professional and effective support with rental car, although we still lived at the other hotel and only began our stay at Hilton next day. Fast check-in (not always like this in Brazil, where time is more). Room spacious, nicely decorated, luxury bathroom, L'Occitane soap, shower gel and conditioner provided and checked every day. Room service was excellent. Iron highly appreciated. Ironing board got broken. Upon our enquiry, it was replaced immediately within two minutes. Our room, bathroom and hotel facilities were very clean and comfortable. Bed was a bid uncomfortable. Heavy blanket, although top class quality and may be meant to be heavy. Air Con so-so. Window could not be opened to let in warm, but fresh air replacing stale air which then could be cooled down again. We know this is against energy saving rules, but some time during day and night, air was just bad (non-smoker and clean). However, this is a very personal perception. All FULLY meeting our expectation for five star. Breakfast has a nice choice of fresh prepared plates upon order. Try them. Squeezer for vegetable juice was appreciated which was always readily prepared and clean for self-use. Selection of delicious fruits is gorgeous. Best quality. Bread and bakery as well as yoghurt and cereals are ok. Selection of cheese was very good. Juices except coconut water were a bit artificial and not tasted very good compared to fruits. Roof top pool is small, but ok for half-day relax. Fresh, clean, soft towels provided every time by the safe guard staff. Environment, public transportation, food store(s): Perfect for relaxing weekend or after our stay at Rio downtown the days before. The days before were enjoyably exhausting and Rio - during summer is just hot and dirty and smelly. Hilton Barra was a perfect (luxury) retreat after such wearing days in town. Except a small shopping mall "Metropolitan Shopping" next door, the hotel is located in a "dead" Olympic area with some business centers. There is public transportation to Rio, but it is less comfortable changing lines and longer to go. One supermarket for essentials was at "Metropolitan Shopping", little choice and more expensive. Beach: Far to go (30 min). A free of charge shuttle of the Hotel brings you to the beach, but only during season. Car is recommended to be more flexible for day trips and activities. For Shoppers: Barra Shopping can be reached by public transportation (one change) in 30 min, by car 10 min. Largest shopping in Brazil, enjoyable.
The hotel is fairly new and located in Barra near many of the Olympic ventues. It is also located right next to a major mall which allows you to easily access shops if you need anything. The location is outside the crowded freeways of Rio which because of business travel was a blessing.
This is a fantastic hotel in the sprawling Barra da Tijuca part of Rio. Room fantastic, view spectacular, rooftop pool heavenly, breakfast delicious, service goes above-and-beyond expectations. I was here my with wife, daughter and mother-in-law. All four of us stayed in a room with two double-beds, a rarity in Brazil. We arrived at 9:00am because our flight into GIG was crazy early, but rooms were available so we were able to get checked-in. The front desk upgraded us to a lake-view room free of charge. Floor-to-ceiling window with a view of the lake and the Olympic Park, with the hills of Rio in the distance. We went to the rooftop infinity pool every day. The pool and the bar are on the top floor. Pool is heated. Lifeguard always on duty. 180 degree view of the Barra. Wow. Breakfast is an extravagant feast. Made-to-order omelettes, pancakes, waffles, cut fruit, croissants, pain au chocolat, cereal, five different juices, all kinds of sweets, some of the best chocolate chip cookies I`ve ever eaten. You name it, they have it. After we left, I discovered that I had kept our electronic door keys in my pocket by mistake instead of returning them to the front desk. I called the hotel to see what we could do to resolve the situation. Answer: don`t worry about it. The downside is that you basically need to grab a taxi if you want to go anywhere. The hotel runs a free shuttle service that goes to the beach and a couple of the shopping malls. But other than that, you would have to depend on taxis to get around. Even the metro station is about a 15-minute cab ride. And traffic in the Barra during the week is quite heavy.
This hotel, being the only Hilton in Rio de Janeiro was just excellent. They went the extra mile from start to finish. It was my girlfriend's birthday upon check-in, and not only did they sing Happy Birthday to her, but they brought up a complimentary bottle of wine and a fruit AND dessert tray! Talk about attention to detail. Also, got a free drink at the bar at dinner at the hotel restaurant once the birthday was mentioned. If you haven't already, the caipirinha is a must try, as it is the most popular drink in Brazil. The rooms were extra comfortable, with steaming hot showers(clean water), and you could book tour excursions on site. Was literally right next to a shopping mall, where you could shop, see a movie, or exchange your currency. Also, about 10 minutes away from other malls in the Barra da Tijuca area. FYI, this is a long drive from the downtown & Copacabana Beach areas though, and traffic is terrible, so keep that in mind. Use Uber, as it it cheaper than in the U.S.!!!!
"Best hotel I ever visited"
I would recommend this hotel as it is at a safe locationvery lavish, close to shopping centre and Barra beach which is much better than ipanema for it's blue water and white sand, close to telegrapho mountain, and the hotel staff helped us with the carnival block and sambadrome tickets for parade which was very difficult to get
