We came to Cartagena for 3 nights with our 5 year old. We didn't want to stay inside the walled city, as the hotels there are tiny and it's mostly apartments and we wanted something with a pool. This hotel was great! It's a 10 minute cab/uber ride to the walled city and you can also walk to several restaurants in Boca Grande (I highly recommend La Olla Cartagenera!). There are 3 pools in this hotel, one of them with a slide. Our 5 year old loved the pools and especially the slide! If you're traveling with kids, they will love this place. There's a small playground and the kid club area has lots of games, toys, and video games. The breakfast buffet at this hotel is really good, with lots of options. And kids eat free! We had a great stay and highly recommend this hotel, especially if you are traveling with small kids.
"Not impressed at all!"
They did not tell us about construction so you could hear banging from early morning to late afternoon. They sprayed for bugs while we were there and it made me sick. I went down to complain and they said "We are not spraying anything." I could taste pesticide in my mouth and I saw a man with a gas mask on walking in and out of the guest rooms. I was so sick at my stomach I had to go outside. I had a horrible headache unti the next day. It was horrible. The service at the pool was awful. No one ever asked if you needed anything. You had to get up and go to the bar and order and then maybe they would bring oyu a drink. It was really the worst experience I have had at a hilton hotel. I went to the concierge to ask about a tour I had seen and she told me to go to a travel agent to find out about tours. I clarified and said "Are you a Concierge' Normally that is what you do for your job' but you are telling me I need to find a travel agent to help me find local things to do' " I walked away and just figured it out myself. I was so disappointed in this facility. I was shocked the POTUS would stay in a place like this. The only person that was decent and to the high caliber standards I expect in a hotel like this was the restaurant manager. She helped me get a specific item and did it fast as I was in a hurry. She should be working for a much higher quality place. She is Four Seasons quality and understands service. As where everyone else at that hotel is truly lacking in customer service. I will never return to that hotel. We are Diamond members with hilton and Platinum with Marriott so I know good service and this place is lacking!
Treated great from the moment you walk in!!! Would recommend this hotel to everyone. Food really good and restaurant staff goes that's extra mile for you... Pool drink super delicious and great music.
"Dated hotel with poor service, especially for Hilton elites"
My family and I were very disappointed with our stay here. The hotel is very dated, especially the lobby area. There wasn't any special check-in desk for Hilton Honors members. We had to stand in line only to be told we couldn't get an upgrade as Hilton Diamond members and that our room wasn't ready even though it was past the regular check-in time of 3pm. We had to wait over 1.5 hours at the Executive Lounge to be able to get a room, which made an entire afternoon of our short stay go to waste. The staff in the reception area were not kind and didn't make any special distinction for being a Diamond member. Kudos to Monica in the Executive Lounge who managed to get us a room in the executive floor and was very kind during our stay. The spa was great and the massage one of the best I've gotten. I would not recommend staying here. We went to the beach for a few minutes but were so harassed by the vendors that we opted for staying by the pool. This really isn't a private beach. Very frustrating stay for a Hilton Diamond member.
"Lack Luster Stay"
I would only recommend this hotel for families who do not plan to leave the property often and want to use the pool for the majority of the stay. I felt the hotel was very ordinary and fell short with expectations of cleanliness in the bathroom. Also, I believe there were bed bugs! I stayed at 3 hotels in total during my trip to Cartagena and the most well known, Hilton, was the worst experience.
