"Convenient, hospitable, and reasonably priced"
Located just a few hundred meters from Haymarket train station, the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor is a convenient base for a few days holiday in Edinburgh. You're a 20 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Like most Hiltons, the hotel is quite comfortable and the staff is remarkably helpful and friendly. I recommend upgrading to a king bed or ask for an upgrade to a multi-room suite; these make a nice place to stay a memorable experience.
"Utterly average in every way"
Hotel is very dated and the decor is tired and in some aspects untidy (our room - 328 - had multiple water stains on the ceiling and the main wall wallpaper was literally coming off). Ensure on check in that you ask for a discount card for the NCP thistle car park (which is £27.50 per day full price and £12 with the discount card). Please also note it's a £5 cab ride away - really terrible parking options at this hotel. Staff were okay and I guess representative of this average hotel - the chef on duty each day and the main barman were conversational and pleasant otherwise most staff were generally uninterested. Be very careful not to be placed in the annex part of the hotel over the road - you will need to cross the road for meals and bar services which is sub standard. As a Hilton gold member I was disappointed with the general attentiveness and level of service. Won't return and will aim to be at the Caledonian again next time in Edinburgh (which is a different stratosphere and where we stayed twice prior)
"Hilton Grosvenor Edinburgh revisited"
Excellent service, cleanliness and value. Brilliantly located for a very short tram ride to the far end of Princes Street and round the corner from Haymarket station. Highly recommended . I've stayed at this hotel once before- it's the staff that make a good hotel and this one is excellent
"Perfect getaway in a lovely city"
We were warmly welcomed by complimentary whiskey at reception and strawberries with shortbread and chocolate dip in room. The hotel is sited near some lovely restaurants and close to tram stop for short ride to city centre.
"Let down by rooms"
The reception and bar areas are really nice and the whisky or sherry on check in was a lovely touch. However the room i had was hugely disappointing - small cramped and dated to say the least i would say the bathroom suite was at least 20 years old and was poorly laid out. Breakfast was also poor, the food from the buffet was lukewarm at best and the sausages etc were of unexpectedly poor quality. Not what i would expect from a hotel of this name.
