"Old and dated "
The Hilton is located next to the opera house in the old quarter. The location is great but the hotel itself is in dire need of a face lift. As an HH platinum member, I didn't get an upgrade, which was a little surprising. The guest room was spacious, however, furniture looked like they were from 30 years ago, and the room was poorly lit. The bathroom wasn't much better either. Buffet breakfast was average at best. I won't be staying here again (and I stayed at a different hotel in my subsequent visits).
We needed a hotel in Hanoi to stay before and after Halong bay cruise. As such we stayed at Hilton Hanoi Opera twice (2 nights and 1 night). The hotel is very centrally located and is within walking distance from all landmarks and the lake. We booked executive room and on 2nd stay were upgraded to the suite. Rooms are typical Hilton with both executive room and suite having both bath and separate shower. Executive lounge is good, but can become crowded at times. Choice of food is reasonable, choice of beverages is quite limited. Breakfast buffet has a selection of international and asian dishes. We booked airport transfer using hotel car and it worked as expected with driver waiting at the arrival hall with Hilton sign. Price of transfer was not expensive so I recommend to book it with the hotel. Internet was not super fast but then it happen to be the case in other hotels in Vietnam too. It is clearly not a resort so swimming pool was small and quite crowded, but overall quite reasonable for stopover. Recommended.
"Does the Job"
We stayed in this hotel on our recent trip to Hanoi. The rooms are clean and have all you need in them but not special. The lobby is lovely with a nice bar and restaurants around it. It is very well located opposite the Opera House and it is easy to walk around town from once you get across the huge road in front of hotel! Breakfast was excellent and lots of choice and good service. The gym was fine, no problem getting a machine and faced the pool which looked nice but we didnt have time to use it.
"Very pleasant stay but...."
My husband and I stayed here end of April to beginning of May. The room is spacious and clean. They have very decent breakfast with lots of option. The food is fresh and up to par. I myself had a quite pleasant stay, on the other hand my husband did not. He developed an ear infection after swimming in their pool for the second time. We noticed that there were kids with diapers in the pool. We then traveled to Siem Reap after Hanoi. As a result, he had to have intravenous antibiotic treatment three times and we went to the hospital five times during our seven days in Siem Reap. He was in pain and couldn't hear out of that ear (as it was ringing the whole time) for the rest of our trip. We are now back home and he is waiting to see specialist. I hope the Hilton Hanoi Opera take a second look at their hygiene standard and set clear regulations in order to maintain that standard.
Good location, and the staff was wonderful. Luong was exceptional! We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, and restaurant. Good value. Lobby is vast and gorgeous. Best place to stay in Hanoi. We would definitely come back to this hotel.
