"The Best Vacation"
Just returned from 5 delightful and outstanding nights at the Hilton Cabo San Lucas. My trip was planned for my husband and daughter to meet me in Cabo but through a prearranged ruse my 2 sisters joined me instead of my husband and daughter. I have read many of the reviews going back several months on the Cabo Hilton. Things outside the Hilton property or control such as the cost of cabs etc…. have been mentioned and not the Hilton’s issue. My husband has been a Hilton Honors Diamond member for 13 years and we have taken some amazing vacations around the world. I would qualify my stay at the Hilton Cabo as one of the top 3 vacations if not the best I have taken. The setting, scenery and location is breathtaking with sunsets that would inspire Hemingway. The property, rooms, pool and beach are meticulously cleaned and maintained. The pool lounges are padded and comfy and not a typical resort type. Every member of the staff was gracious and courteous exceeding a level I have not consistently experienced. Coming from the east coast in mid-winter, the Hilton offers warmth, style, comfort, and relaxation. From the time you arrive at the hotel you are pampered and cared for better than the Ritz Carlton or 4 Seasons Hotels I have vacationed. Thank you to the Cabo Hilton General Manager Marco T. and his team. Next visit I will bring my husband to see what he missed.
"Beautiful property, friendly service, great views"
We spent New Years Eve here and it was a blast. Expensive, but a great party. Especially loved the thai balloons they let go before the fireworks - what a sight! Just be cautious with the bills. My husband went to bar for two glasses of champagne at about 11:45. They wouldn't sell him any - even sparkling wine - and he ended up with a huge tab for a bottle of Moet tat was left on the bar, over $100. Would have happily settled for white wine but it was a little mean of the bartender not to have champagne by the glass on NYE.
As a HHonors Diamond Member I sleep 100+ nights per year in various Hilton Hotels across the world. This is my first experience in a hotel that did not recognise my Diamond level in HHonors program as we were not entitled to use the lounge. The hotel looks spectacular, but is far from the city (or anything for that matter). Taxis are overpriced in this city and a return trip to Cabo (15 minutes) will cost easily 70 USD, which is significantly higher than Manhattan taxi prices. We stayed one night and the best service the hotel gave me was a free cancellation of the remaining nights. We spend most of our holidays in Asia where service comes from the heart, so maybe a comparison is not fair. The staff in the hotel was very friendly, but the service they have to provide is not the best.
"Just what the doctor ordered"
I won't rehash the many, many other stellar reviews of this property, and will try to keep it as short as I can. This resort has a laid back elegance that I think compares very favorably with five star properties elsewhere. What comes to mind immediately is the Four Seasons Maui. It was a terrific place to play in the pools with the kids without a crowd, build sand castles, eat delicious food, and constantly be greeted by smiling and helpful staff. My kids also loved getting shirley temples at the swim up bar, painting pottery by the pool, playing chess on an oversized board, exploring the selflessly clean books and crannies of the resort, and watching whales right off the beach. Speaking of the beach (something very near and dear to my heart), it has sand that is a bit rougher than I prefer, but that did not detract from our enjoyment. Note that, if you are a beach snob, the Hilton's beach is excellent in color, cleanliness, and water clarity. We have been to Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, Eleuthera, etc., and we were very happy with this beach. I swam, but no one else in my family did. That was ok this time, but frankly this may be our one and only trip to Los Cabos for the inability to safely swim and boogie board as we usually do on beach vacations. We went for La Vista club, which we thought was well worth the extra cost for the poolside service alone. So much for keeping it short...
"Clean, Fantastic staff, Beautiful view .still would not return"
We recently stayed at the property and while the resort is absolutely spotless, have a fantastic, friendly and helpful staff, we still would not return. Resort is several miles from downtown Cabo and taxi service one way is about $25 USA. While we were confident in the hotel's preferred taxi service to the city, we were leary of finding a safe return trip. (Several years ago we had a terrifying experience while off of a resort''s grounds in Mexico). The resort itself has absolutely NO source of night life and limited planned things to do during the day. The beach, while beautiful, is not conducive for walking in bare feet as it is a mixture of tiny pebbles and sand. Most of the shore has large crater rocks making swimming impossible. There is a small section of unobstructed shore, which drops drastically in depth and the undertow is quite strong, leaving it with rather dangerous swimming conditions. The staff themselves do not recommend any type of ocean swimming. We booked the upgrade to the LaVista Club, which is quite overrated. This club does entitle you to a room with a great view, special pool privileges and entry into a special members only club room. While the club room is accessible 24 hours, the only benefit we found useful was the free bottled water and soda available. Other than that, the free candy, nuts, limited quantity of desserts, Tequila and/or beer served at specific times only, wasn't of much use to us. Their website claims that as a club member you are also entitled to hors d'oeuvers...we never saw them. Another disappointment was the LaVista Club pool area. It is jammed packed with chairs with very little room between them. As this is a family resort, the tight quarters were never quiet or remotely restful. For some peace and quiet, and GREAT poolside service, do yourself a favor and head to the secondary pool area on the other end of the resort. The actual pool and lounge chairs are just as nice, also has a swim up bar, food service and wait staff that attends to your every need. The website also says free Wi-Fi. Please note that this is only applicable in your room. A $10USD fee is charged each day for WiFi to be used anywhere else in the resort. The food is good with typical resort pricing. If you like a great steak (comparable to Ruth's Chris), go to the Italian restaurant located on the lower level. DELICIOUS! The restaurant located near the main swim up bar has a large selection of food, all of which we tried was very good. If you are looking for exceptional staff and service, a spotless room and grounds, a beautiful location and views, this hotel is for you. We just felt the LaVista Club was not at all worth the extra money as the perks offered are minimal. If you are looking for a resort with activities to participate in during the day or evening, go elsewhere.
