"Hilton - not the usual standard"
Dirty, tired Hilton. No hot food - no room service, no restaurant, room not cleaned until after 5pm (complained & the staff really didn't care) & invoice not even emailed after stay - which was promised.
"Don't even think about it"
This is one of the worst hotels I have ever had the disfortune of staying in. The entire property is in a state of disrepair and in dire need of renovation. The rooms and common areas are not well maintained and the dining options are dismal. Those may seem like insignificant, general complaints but consider this: I awoke the first morning of my stay at the hotel only to learn that the shower in my room was broken. The knob that allows the user to adjust the temperature was very obviously broken and just left hanging on the shower wall so the only option was ICE cold water. Not just not hot enough or even lukewarm but literally ice cold. I called down to reception to request a new room in which to take a shower and immediately got the impression that this was a known issue. I had to pack up and move to a new room just to take a shower and the entire process took so long that I missed my first client meeting of the day. Not the way to make a good first impression for sure. The person who helped me at the front desk was apologetic but not very much so, and never tried to do anything to make things right. No one even cleaned or brought fresh towels to my new room and several items, albeit less important ones than the shower, were broken in that room as well, including the clock radio and the toilet that ran all.night.long. Needless to say, I will not be back to this hotel and will forever be wary of the Hilton brand as my experience at the Hilton on 6th Avenue was lackluster as well.
"Not a bad hotel, but not quite meeting the Hilton standards"
This hotel is very well located and I wouldn't say that I didn't like it. Service was good, the bed was very comfortable and price wasreasonable. I wouldn't give it more than a 3/5 review because it doesn't quite meet the standard that I've seen in all other Hilton hotels I've stayed in the past. The bathroom window was broken and it was covered with a cardboard pasted to the remaining glass; the light in the closet was flashing on and off all the time; some heating controls underneath the sink had the lid taken off and it was uncovered; etc. It definitely needs some money invested in upgrading the infrastructure so that it can compare to similar hotels.
It's hard to find good, clean, affordable and centrally located rooms in New York City. The Hilton NY Grand Central is well located, not extravagantly priced, clean and friendly. My only complaint is that the meeting room had awkwardly placed pillars in the middle of the room.
"Poor customer service."
I was treated like a nuisance instead of a valued guest. My room was booked by my union. Arrived after 9pm. Was told that my personal debit card was needed for incidentals. Then I was told that there was not enough money on my card to pay for my stay. (I was NEVER supposed to pay for my stay). I showed them the paperwork that was given to me by my union. They told me that only meant that my union only committed to reserving my room. And, basically, that I couldn't pay for the room, I wouldn't get it. They then tried to get in contact with the organizers of my conference. (My reservation had absolutely nothing to do with them.) By this time, the once welcoming staff could care less about what happened to me, even if it meant me sleeping on the street. I told them that I would pay for the first night. The man at the desk told me that there was not enough money on my card to pay for one night (which was none of his business). I paid for the room and called my union the next morning to inform them that there was a problem. As a Black woman, I was offended by the automatic assumption that I could not afford the room, and the lack of concern and customer service I was shown after it was assumed that I couldn't afford my room. Horrible service.
