"Good but room for improvement ........"
On entering the hotel the open space and the wood treatment in the lobby certainly stands out, it is very dark looking with not much lighting, especially around the check in desk. The lobby is very spacious, plenty of seats to rest and the staff members are very friendly and helpful. Check in was quick and my room was available a little earlier than what I had expected so this was a nice bonus. I had requested a high floor, with a room away from the lifts and this was made possible. On getting out of the lift the dark atmosphere continues as I walked down the dimly lit corridor towards my allocated room I was shocked to see newspapers thrown on the floor. It was something that you would expect to see at a cheap 2 star hotel / motel,.Why would management not arrange for the newspaper to be hung on the door handle, so many other good hotels now do this. Also the amount of breakfast trays that had not been collected left a stench, very unprofessional. The other thing that I noticed was that the carpet was filthy and the beautiful wallpaper/ paint work on the corridor walls are total scratched with some holes appearing in the plaster. After staying at the hotel I noticed that the housekeeping staff are causing all of this damage, they just drag their house keeping trolleys along the wall, were is the pride. '. The rooms are a very nice size, again dimly lit but once the blinds are raised the lighting improves. The size of the TV is embarrassing, extremely small and looks out of place in the room. Fantastic bathroom, separate toilet and the walk in shower is a very good size. There is also a separate bath tub and the bathroom amenities are of a good quality. Staff are very friendly, especially the breakfast team , their attitude was amazing and they made you feel like a welcome guest ( staff in the evening are OK but room for improvement - bar area/ food ) For some guests they may find the location a little out of the way but to be honest it only takes 10 minutes to get to the Crown complex and from their you can be in the city center in another 10- 15 minutes. If you are not dining in at the hotel there are several good restaurants that are around 5 minutes away from the hotel lobby. I would recommend this hotel but it does need to lift its game a little, especially when the rates they charge can be very high for a one nights stay.
"Nice views, a lot of helicopter traffic so be aware."
Very nice hotel. The layout is a bit funky, the bathroom is down the hallway toward the closet for the toilet and the shower and tub and sinks are away from it. All in all, this is a nice place to stay in Melbourne and it's in an interesting part of town. The view of the Ferris Wheel is nice. The thing that the Hilton has for Diamond members is Free Water and not the $9 a bottle kind of service that I've been getting at other chains I have top loyalty to. Good for them in seeing the benefit of top tier loyalty.
"Not as good as a Hilton should be."
I stayed here for 3 nights during a conference recently. My room was great with a view over the river. The only let down was housekeeping. One day I had my DND on for approximately 10 mins during lunch time and when I returned home that evening my room had not been made up. During my stay housekeeping never did the things they should have done and I would know because I have a background in hotels and I have worked in housekeeping myself. We never ate in the hotel at night but breakfast was great.
"Special view and room"
Stayed here for a work conference, I loved it. The room had a touch of class and the room service was lightning quick. Staff were extremely helpful. The conference ran without a hitch and dare I say the catering was well above expectations. Looking forward to staying here for leisure one day.
"A view with a rainbow"
Our 2 bedroom suite had a great view following the Yarra looking towards the CBD. Lucky to have storm clouds lurking topped off by a full rainbow stealing the scene. Comfy beds, dressing gowns, slippers, kitchenette and all the bathroom goodies required. Plus: Location to Convention Centre & South Wharf. Parking right next door. Cons: No DVD player & master bedroom remote did not work. Staff were prompt and offered to fix things but as we were all tired we settled for a free breakfast for 4.
