"Needs a little help"
With some help, I think this place could improve the ratings. Hate to complain when I'm in Cabo and having an excellent time and none of the items below ruined our trip but just some suggestions. 4 main items to comment on; room, food/drink, staff, everything else. The room is a room. We have these small bugs that are around from time to time, mainly in the bathroom. The bathroom is older, the room is not the quietest but the bed is comfy and the shower is hot(my number 1 requirement for even a decent review) The food/drink are ok. They have only 2 restaurants; a buffet and a sit down. We didn't go to the sit down much because the service was poor/slow(comment on that later). The buffet was exactly what you would expect of a poor buffet. It wasn't wonderful, ever. The skillet is better, if they cook it fresh, but often busy. The oats every morning was milk with 3 or 4 oats in a large bowl with a ladle, if that puts it in perspective. They have these very cool Nescafe Milan machines to make your own fancy coffee drink...Decaf coffee drink and it only works half the time. Most of the time it needed servicing. The staff...they do not have enough staff for the amount of customers they have. The staff was poor, not getting water or drinks until you ask for them at restaurants and never in a cheerful, excited way. But I have to give it to them, they were always running. It wasn't that they were standing around not helping, they were RUNNING around not able to help all the people that came in and out. One morning we had a tour at 720 so we got to breakfast at 650, they didn't open until 7 but fruit was out. At 655 I went to grab some fruit and got yelled at and then was stared down the rest of my breakfast. The staff at the front desk, less than enthused with their job. BUT the activities team, Great! Alan loved his job and he did great at it. Made the entertainment wonderful and inviting for everyone. The only person on the property that truly seemed happy, Alan. Which takes us to the everything else. They had fun shows every night. Not 5 star shows but fun to watch and exciting. There were games in the day to attend and they too were fun or funny. The folks that were there from other companies booking travel were also super helpful. Many of the drivers to and from the hotel were also very nice, grateful and possibly funny. The property is clean and beautiful. Nice walk ways, great pools(not always clean due to the swim up bars) but very large. Hammock outside our room was fun and lots of lounge chairs at the pools. The gym was good, free weights, machines, 4-5 treadmills, 2 ellipticals and 1 bike. I was bummed there were not tv's that worked in the machines but that's a bit much to ask. Like I said, these items can be easily fixed. The quietness of the room and older feel in them not as easily but the rest could be enhanced. Overall, still enjoying our stay. Thanks!
"San Jose del Cabo"
My stay at the Holiday Inn was very nice. The hotel is extremely well maintained even though it is a little older property. There was always a abundance of food (sometimes cold but regardless one never went hungry), the beach was beautiful which was next to the outdoor bar and an outdoor restaurant. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. This is not a property where you can swim in the ocean however there are other options close by if you are interested. This was my first time in Cabo and it was absolutely wonderful. Both towns have alot of activities, and are accessible regardless which hotel you are at. I traveled on the city bus quite abit - it was easy, affordable and extremely pleasant. The driver will stop at any location. The city if very safe, clean, modern, and I will definitely be going back again. I loved CABO!!!! Bring a sweater as the mornings and evenings are a little chilly.
"Breakfast was great"
Room I was in building 5 third floor. The room was quiet, and the bed comfortable. The bathroom had mold in the shower but not enough for me to complain. I had an awesome view of the pool and ocean. Food I thought the buffet was on par with golden coral which I personally think is gross. The a la carte restaurant is the spot to be. There is a server named Arnulfo SIC over there. He is the best waiter ever. Make sure you tip that guy well. Breakfasts are pretty good if you get an omelet. Not awesome by any means but gets the job done 3/5 if you go to the a la carte. Drinks Not top shelf, but not bad either. My only complaints are there are no fresh juices and no coconut water. All the juices are from concentrate or some syrup and very sweet. But can't complain about rum, gin or tequila they have. In my opinion better than wells/rail drinks you get in the US. If you stay away from the sweet drinks 4/5 Amenities They have more activities at the hotel than what they list on the website. Ping pong, beach volley ball and daily group activities. I do however have a complaint about the main pool. It seems to have an oil slick on if from sun tan lotion and spilled drinks etc. Not the most inviting water. If you want night life etc go to Cabo. 2.5/5 if you are looking for more than pool and bar activities. Beach Not many people go in the water. If you are a strong swimmer I say it's safe. If you have kids you are stuck to the pool. There is no one on the beach so you can veg out all day in peace. Only draw back are the damn horses and you know what comes with horese.
Husband and I had a quick 4 day trip where we stayed at this all-inclusive. I managed my expectations by reviews, and I have to say they exceeded them. While there wasn't a huge variety of food (one of the disappointments) the pool areas were fun, the room was clean and well maintained (and I loved the hammock looking out over the water) The staff was friendly and our stay was pleasant.
"Save your money and go elsewhere"
We just came back from our trip to Los Cabos and this was the place we stayed at for the first part of the trip. It's pretty poor in every single aspect of the hotel and I'll go to more details below. One thing to keep in mind is that this is not really All Inclusive resort. They charge you extra for wine, beef, shrimp, lobster. No liquor in the rooms, as a matter of fact the rooms don't even have fridges. - Check in - right off the bat we were unpleasantly surprised. The reservation confirmation allowed me to select if we would want an early check in before 3PM (their standard check in time) or not. I opted to check in early as with the plane landing at 1:20 we figured we may be there before 3pm. We finally arrived at 2:45 in the lobby and were told that the room is not ready and will not be ready for another 30 minutes. No problem, we figured we'll just go and grab something to eat since we were hungry and this my give us an opportunity to hit the pool as soon as we're able to change in the room rather than going to the restaurant after getting the room and then to the pool. We come back after eating, almost 40 minutes later and are being told that the room will not be available for another 20 minutes. What is the point of asking people if they will want to check in early if you're not going to have the room available. Also, when we arrived, there was no one in front of us waiting to check in so I don't believe the story they were trying to push on us that they are very busy. Overall, we waited for an hour to get to our room. - Restaurants - there are only 2 restaurants on the property. Both located near the main pool area. One of them is a buffet type and the other one has a small menu of maybe 4 main dishes plus some appetizers and deserts. Neither requires a reservation but. Food - The food at both places was pretty bad. One day I found a big piece of a plastic wrapping in one of my Pastor Tacos from the restaurant near the beach. The buffet had always limited selections that repeated often with only s a dish or two that were good. You could see that one day's pork chops became next day's Asian flavored sweet ans sour pork. Also, don't expect the huge buffet style from the large resorts. The restaurant near the beach had only one menu that repeated every day. The buffet had 2 grill stations, but you never could figure out what they were serving there. There was no sign advising of what dish is available and you had to pretty much stand in line to take your chance on whatever is being cooked there that night. - Pools - Towel game. There are primarily 3 pools: Family pool, Activity main pool and Adult pool. We had our room close to the Family pool which was great because we traveled with 2 kids but the water in that pool was cold. The main pool had a nice and warm water but you had to play the towel game early in the day otherwise there were no loungers available and we didn't get any luck finding the space later in the day. Overall, the chairs were either taken or broken or expect to play the towel game or sit in a cold pool. The family pool was better with space but if you came late in the day you may be sitting in a shade or get no lounger at all either. The fountain feature/structure in the family pool didn't run and after day 1 the bucket dump in the kids section stopped working as well. - Service - no pool side servers. You go to the swim up bar or you don't drink. The selection at the bar is mediocre with cheep alcohol and cheap beer. I guess no one wants to make a buck here while serving drinks near the pool. The plastic cups that the drinks get served in are apparently reusable there. I watched the bartender wash a whole stash of these cups from the previous day. Gross. The servers in the restaurants are pretty un-attentive.You wait forever for them to come and serve you. One day we went to the buffet for lunch and no one came to ask us if we want anything to drink. Again, seems that no one wants to make some tips but observing i didn't see very many people tipping. - Rooms - we stayed in building 7 on the 3rd floor. Top floors have the smallest rooms. The room was old with a lot of fixtures (i.e. patio door lock) not working or being makeshift fixed. No light over the bathroom mirror and the sink area is separate from the shower/toilet where the light bulb is located so basically my wife was putting on the makeup by the main mirror in the room. The beds were good and firm. The place is rather noisy if you don't have quiet neighboring rooms as the place is all concrete and tile so the sound carries throughout the spaces. - Beach - you can't swim anywhere near los Cabos so this is not really hotel's problem. The sand is pretty coarse. I did have some good jogs/walks on the beach but in places you have to watch out for the horse manure from the horse stable next door as they take rides/walks on the beach in front of the hotel. The hotel has few palapas with chairs on the beach but the hairs are either taken or broken, just like by the pool. Overall, this place seems to be pretty popular with the locals and is pretty rundown/old property. We will not be back next time we're in Cabo. There are much better option for few extra dollars more.
