"Best Hotel Ever"
This is a lovely hotel with excellent staff . A sumptuous breakfast , spa and relaxation pool. It is in a fabulous location in a great neighborhood - near many museums , close to subway . We loved it !
"cute, but more charming than five star elegant"
there are some good things about this hotel but, for me, the bad outweighed the good. we booked the duplex suite, which is really more of a small loft bedroom upstairs from a sitting room. the bed is set under the eaves with a deeply framed skylight over one side of the bed; if you are even slightly claustrophobic, this probably isn't the room for you. the ceilings descend at a sharp angle and although i am not super tall, i was at risk of smacking my head when sitting up in bed. upstairs, there was a nook for folding clothes, but no hanging closet. it was downstairs, but who wants to hike down a flight of stairs to hang their clothes' as the bed took up much of the room, there were no bedside tables and my side of the bed had a direct view into the doorless bathroom. there was a separate toilet enclosure with a glass door, but it had a one inch gap all around, so there was no sound or, eew, smell privacy. the shower was in a separate glass doored enclosure. it had marble tiled floors that were really large marble pieces set wide enough apart so water could drain below. i don't think anyone ever cleaned the edges of those tiles because they were black with what looked like thousand year old mildew. yuck. a plus, the large lovely bathtub took up most of the huge bathroom. i loved the location, which is close to some great restaurants, lots of high end shopping and fantastic museums. every day, a treat was left on our coffee table, perfect for a couple who likes to eat something sweet before bed. and don't dismiss the bowl of bland looking candies set out on the reception desk; they looked like brach's peppermints, but turned out to be fruit flavored and were so good, i had to force myself not to grab a handful when i passed. perhaps it comes from many years of traveling solo, but i prefer not to leave my key with the front desk as you never know who has access to your room when your are gone, but leaving your key is required here. hospes madrid felt more like a pensione from days gone by than a modern five star hotel. i came expecting something elegant and upscale, but ended up in a room that is more peculiar than is to my liking. i confess, i am an architecture junkie and i prefer well designed spaces where thought has been given to how they are going to be used, rather than "oh look, i think we can fit a closet there," school of hotel planning, so perhaps i just chose the wrong hotel.
So pleased that we booked the lovely Hospes Puerta De Alcala for our recent visit to Madrid. Perfectly located and within easy walking distance of all the major museums, sights and shopping facilities. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful from the moment we arrived with hints on where to go, what to see and other useful information about this fascinating city. We used the hotel restaurant on two occasions and were not disappointed though we personally find the late night eating habits of the local population difficult to match. All in all, a clean and very convenient hotel with great staff, good rooms and ideal facilities for those planning a trip to this fine city.
"Nice hotel in great central location"
Lovely hotel in fantastic central Madrid location on Plaza Independencia, you can't get a better location n Madrid as central to all the sights from museums to parks to old town. Hotel rooms are nice, staff are friendly and helpful. Will certainly stay here again.
"Another great experience at HOSPES, Madrid, Puerta de Alcala"
After 2 visits in Madrid in 2015 and 2 lovely stays at HOSPES, Madrid, Puerta de Alcala , we were back for 3 days mid-December. Once again, everything was perfect: very warm welcome at the reception, lovely attention in the room upon arrival with a cheese plate and a bottle of Cava. So comfy, clean and lovely room. Delicious breakfast. Hotel so well located to move around, to go downtown, either on foot or with the metro. We enjoyed the relaxing pool and the hamman after a full day of visit in town. Unfortunately, the Spa was already fully booked. And a "special thank you" for ROBERTO and his colleagues at the reception: they're doing a great job, really taking care of their guests, always ready to help. I'm alreay looking forward to another visit in Madrid and HOSPES hotel. The perfect choice ! Meeting their guests' expectations!!!
