"Very expensive, but probably the best hotel in Beaune"
We stayed here 1 night. The grounds, and Lobby were all beautiful. Breakfast was not included. Our room was tiny and with very little furniture which seemed a bit strange. The TV was tiny as well. The bathroom was in great condition, and everything was very clean. The bed comfortable and the room quiet. Location is good as well. Just the price is a bit high, and nothing was included. No water, and no coffee maker.
"First class hotel and restaurant in great location"
My wife and I were in Beaune during the first week of October for a 3 night stay of wine tasting and exploration. We were able to book a 2 night pkg which included dinner at Clos de Cedre for two and breakfast for 2 days along with admission to Hotel le Dieu and then did the 3rd night a la carte. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a Prestige room which was at the back of the hotel and though the street behind was a bit noisy from car traffic with the window open, it was quiet at night with the window closed and the A/C running. The room was very nice and comfortable. The shower was a little small but very adequate. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and the hotel gave us a nice bottle of wine and a plate of sweets with a nice birthday note for her which was very thoughtful. The hotel was just outside the ramparts of town but was an easy 5 to 10 min walk to everything including the train station though I wouldn't recommend doing that with luggage. Taxi to the gare cost about 7 euros. Francois and Alexis at the front desk were very courteous and helpful. We had a problem the first day with the electronic room key and they compensated us with champagne for two. They also helped with dinner reservations and arranging for a rental car for a day. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate and believe me you need to save room for dinner in this town! We had a beautiful dinner at the Clos de Cedre which was included with our package. This was a five course meal which included an additional 3 chef's treats and everything was spectacular and portions were more than ample. The meal was definitley worthy of a Michelin Star whether they have one or not, as the service, presentation and quality was definitely top notch. The only down side about it for us was that it took about 3hrs and we wouldn't have minded but we were still a little jet lagged and had come off a full day of wine tasting! Oh well. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and the restaurant for a couple's stay in Beaune.
"Exceptional first impression"
We were two couples traveling from the US and Europe. However we arrived at the hotel in one car. We stayed in two rooms for three nights. The exterior is very nice with plenty of nice outdoor seating in the sun and a shaded park area. The hotel entrance and lobby seating area / bar / lounge has beautiful wood panelling and counters with leather chairs and a fireplace. Very classic style and just what we wanted. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and speak English well. Check in, unloading the car and valet parking was quick and simple. The rooms were attractive and inviting. There is adequate storage for hanging clothes and enough drawers for two people for the three nights we stayed here. There is a small television with the standard channels. We were mostly out and therefore really did not use the television. Actually we really spent little time in the room. Unfortunately, the toilet was so small you fought will the door to get in or out and while using the toilet. The shower entrance was also small and the shower was one of the smallest I have seen. Not very practical for a large person. Overall the room was rather small, but we were not cramped when getting in or out of bed. The bed was just fine and the hotel plenty quite enough for a good nights rest. Throughout the stay the hotel staff were extremely friendly. The bar staff was very nice and made very good drinks. Breakfast was of medium to low quality and clearly does not merit the 20euro price. I would suggest taking breakfast elsewhere. The pan of scrambled eggs were about as think as the average soup. The bacon was tasteless. The croissants were not typical French quality as they were really never flakey. Fruit selection was limited with a bowl of can fruit. Meat and cheese selection was average quality and small. I do not think a larger amount of options is required, I just would like to see a high quality of product for the price. Parking at 17 euros per night was also rather steeply priced. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night -- I can only advise against this and will review this separately. While I liked the hotel I did not believe it represented value for money. I paid a nice price to have a little luxury which is somehow missing from this hotel. I would not go here again and I have stayed in this region many times over the past 10 years so I do understand the price verses quality scale in this region.
"Choose somewhere in town center instead"
We stayed here principally because it looked like a nice hotel, and the one where we had wanted to stay (Le Cep) was fully booked. While the hotel was perfectly fine for our two days in Beaune, we wouldn't stay there again. The decor was a bit dated -- e.g. floral wallpaper, plastic accordion-style shower door, faux duvet (meaning a duvet cover over a comforter that didn't breathe or move the way real or synthetic feathers do). The hotel wasn't busy, but it also seemed inefficient. The staff, while friendly, seemed to be handling multiple jobs. For example, the fellow who helped us bring our bags inside also was the one who made restaurant and winery reservations. The biggest drawback, however, was the hotel's location on the boulevard that rings the city. While they gave us a quiet room away from the traffic, we had to cross a busy road and walk down a few blocks to get into the city in order to visit wineries, shops and restaurants. Not the end of the world, I know, but when only spending a couple of days in the area, we felt it would have been better to be more centrally located.
"Beautiful hotel, great service"
The Hostellerie Le Cedre is a lovely hotel that, with its gorgeous gardens, fits right into the charms of Beaune. On our arrival, our car was parked for us in the underground car park, bags were cared for, while our room was made up as a priority check in. All we had to do was enjoy ourselves. So, off we went and had a beautiful, traditional French breakfast in the very nicely appointed breakfast room. Our room (a double superior, which looked out northwest onto the countryside) was well appointed with all the mod cons but was very charming in its oh so French traditional way. Service was great. Anything we asked for was done with a smile, including great restaurant recommendations (naturally making the reservations for us), as well as helping us re-arrange a tour when our tour operator couldn't make it. Not to mention fixing the safe in double time when we couldn't retrieve our documents from it! They also had no problems letting hubby practice his French on them, complimenting him all the way, having the patience of Job :). Yes, all these things are expected from a top class hotel and this was what was delivered, making our stay more than just comfortable. The hotel's restaurant, Le Clos du Cedre, is Michelin star quality, delivering exceptional food and service, albeit at a price which reflects same. Thanks for a great 3 days Hostellerie Le Cedre. Nous reviendrons et bientôt, nous espérons!
