"10 day holiday"
Stayed at Amfora for 10 days left on 16th May after a very nice holiday. unfortunately I left my leather jacket there, discovered this after we had boarded the Catamaran. I reported this to Jet2 rep who said they would look into this. Since coming home I have contacted Amfora twice, but as yet not heard anything from them. Very disappointed, feel this is the only way I may get a response! I would have liked to give this hotel more stars, but feel they don't want to know now that I have left.
"A Lovely Hotel, Not Without Problems"
This hotel has a stunning location with beautiful views over islands and about a ten minute walk into town along the paved, coastal path. The hotel transport picked us up from Stari Grad where the ferry had docked and transported us efficiently. Upon arrival check-in was easy and our luggage was taken to our room. The staff were efficient and polite. Our room was comfortable, if a little small - there's very little space between the ends of the bed and the wardrobe, so it was a bit of a challenge moving about! The bed and pillows were blissful though and I slept well every night without problems (unusual when a strange bed is involved!). Our bathroom was fitted with a very deep bath (careful getting in and out, especially if you're short!) and a huge rain shower which is difficult to avoid and can blast you away if it's on full power. There's also a hand-held shower, but we couldn't work out how to use it and, despite asking the staff about it, no-one came to show us! The washbasin is a built-in affair and quite small, so water splashes everywhere and there's also no plug which makes washing difficult, messy and wasteful! The housekeeping staff, indeed ALL the staff, were never less than polite, helpful, cheerful and charming which is a great bonus. Nothing was too much trouble - they are an asset to the hotel. Now for the food which is served on a buffet basis. Breakfast was a joy - I've never seen 9 different kinds of milk on offer at any hotel before - and ther was a selection of fruit, cereal, dried fruit, nuts and seeds. the most delicious yoghurt I've ever tasted, fruit juices and hot foods, toast etc. Staff walked around with coffee and milk, but we opted for the tea which you make yourself in individual pots. I always find that this is where a hotel falls down and the Amfora was no exception - ghastly weak tea-bags and water which isn't boiling! Maybe it's an English thing, but we like our tea made properly!! We didn't have lunch at the hotel as wew were on a half-board basis and I can only say the evening meals were a total disappoinment: over salted (sometimes rendered inedible!) and luke warm. Even the plates are cold, although they are stored in the buffet fixing where the bain marie to warm them should be lit - it wasn't. So cold food on cold plates which is not nice. We ended up having soup (luke warm again), bread and sweet. Actually, the sweets (a selection of little cakes and pastries) were very nice and fresh fruit was always on offer. The salad bar was minimal really - lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes - and could have been so much better. Some of the dishes had no labelling, so it was difficult to know what they actually were. My advice: go bed and breakfast!! One big downside of the Amfora is it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be or who it really wants to pitch itself at. Our visit in May meant it was reasonably quiet and not over-crowded, although there were several large hen and stag parties which definitely detracted everyone we spoke to. One group of rowdy lads were even moved away by staff to a different area of the pool because they were bombing each other in the water and making a nuisance of themselves. I shudder to think what it's like in high season, but I DO know I would not want to be there! The decor and general ambience of the hotel seems to say they'd like to be considered upper end of the market, but this simply won't happen if they allow these parties to stay there - even campsites in the UK won't allow groups of one sex stop, so why should a hotel' This is definitely a holiday-wrecker, so hotel management, take note. Another thing, the hotel is situated right on the coastal path (a delightful walk, but there's no security so anyone can just walk into the grounds and hotel building). This makes for some very potentially noisy nights. We were woken up on three nights by shouting and raucous singing coming from people walking back to their accomodation along this path. This was about 3am each time - not funny! Would I stay at the Amfora again' Yes, I would, but on a bed and breakfast basis and definitely out of season.
We went to this small island Hvar and stayed at the Amfora hotel it was a large hotel well laid out not many guests at the start of may the food & service was good rooms kept clean, beach towels supplied transfers well organised for the ferry crossing well worth a visit.
"Honeymoon stay "
My wife and I came here for part of our honeymoon. We were impressed by the friendly staff and cleanliness of the hotel and pool area. As we stayed in May there were plenty of sun beds available and the hotel was fairly quiet. We stayed in a very spacious junior suite with stunning sea views and lovely balcony. Only breakfast was included in our stay so we dined out most of the time. We did get pizza for room service on the first night which was a bit soggy and food from the bar for a lunch which was so so. Nothing special. Despite it being our honeymoon there was no extra surprises which was fine. The hotel is just a 10 minute walk away from the harbour and local bars and restaurants. We used the hotels transfer service (€25 pp) to get to split but this really isn't necessary outside the high season. We found out too late ferry tickets only cost a fraction of that price and can easily be bought on the morning of travel. Overall a comfortable stay and would recommend
Amazing resort Views and breakfast both fantastic Such good value and less than a 10 minute walk to the main town Pool is the nicest I've ever encountered Will defiantly return If returning with the girl I would come in peak season June-September just so there is slightly more open in terms of nightlife However I recommend couples stay in may June time
