Hotel Amigo is a bit expensive comparing with other hotels in the area, However, I found this hotel to very elegant =) and super clean! The hotel is in a great location (minutes walk from the Manneken Pis statue, bars, restaurants) which is the reason we stayed here. In the past, I stayed further out in other hotels, but there is so much to see in Brussels that this time around I wanted the perfect location.
"Excellence in hospitality more a Palace than a classic luxury 5 stars"
I came back to this hotel years after my first come, and it was meeting more than my expectation. From the arrival you feel a vip guest (I am not a VIP and seems that all clients deserve the same personnalised welcome). The concierge service is amazing with 6 concierges clefs d'Or, everyone know your name and anticipate your wishes, it is why even if this hotel is more a luxury boutique hotel, to my point of view it's among the best one I went in Europe and a Palace fot it's service. During my stay, many states men were in the hotel, but all is very discret and cosy even if you can see some bodygards. Moreover, the rooms have all you can expect from a top luxury 5 stars even a Corby. Bathroom are marble ones, spacious and practical with hot towels system and exclusive products. The exquisite choice of antics and modern piece of art related to Magritte and Tintin was nice as you feel the belgium touch. The breakfast was with a wide choice of quality food, perfect scrambles eggs but also fresh fruits buffet and fresh squeez fruits juice, with a nice service at the table for coffee or tea. I will comeback with pleasure and it was 3 wonderful days staying at Amigo.
"Nice place. Terrible internet."
Hotel Amigo is an oddly named hotel in a good location for seeing central Brussels. Pretty much what you would expect from a well rated establishment. The reason I am rating it poorly though is for it's internet service. It's slow, won't work on your mobile phone at all, and still runs on the idea of choking the speed in the hopes that people will pay more for the faster option. You might think that the internet is a seemingly petty thing to complain about. It might be, but if you are here on business it's not. having to walk down the street to a bar that offers the wifi for free is terribly inconvienent. Not exactly the service I expect from any Amigo.
"Not there yet"
This is our last night of a two night stay. And the hotel is very well located, pleasantly decorated, has great showers. We have two rooms and they mixed it up and gave us a small double and made the king bed into twins for the kids. It should be the other way around. So we are sharing a much smaller bed, which is uncomfortable. Also the ac in the kids room doesn't work and it is blowing out hot air it's 25 degrees in there. Very uncomfortable. We have asked twice at reception for it to be fixed an engineer also came and said he fixed it but now it's hot again. We haven't slept well in a smaller bed and the kids are roasting next door. So not great. Avoid room 316. The restaurant is great fantastic food. But it's a bit disappointing when you call before 5 to find out when they open for dinner and they reply 7 but they're full. A heads up would have been good. Also they claim they offer lots of amenities for kids like a kids turn down etc. No real evidence of this.
"That all the reviews describe this as the best hotel in Brussels says more about Brussels than the hotel"
A three star hotel which does the basic things but really doesn't provide anything special. Rooms are ok, restaurant is fair (though I only experienced it at breakfast), front office staff is poor (I got to take my suitcases in and out of the taxi twice). I guess it well may be that this is the best hotel in Brussels but that's just another reason to only go if you have to for business. Note: Belgium has among the worst terrorism problems in Western Europe and that creates not only the danger of getting blown up or stabbed by terrorists but very jumpy overzealous security personnel.
