"Ideal location and very friendly staff"
Hotel is in an ideal location for visiting Amsterdam, we stayed in an superior room overlooking the de Bijenkorf department store that was decorated for Christmas which made our trip all the romantic. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We dined in the restaurant several times and found the food and service to be first class, the restaurant is great for people watching as well. Slight negatives; towels are worn out and could do with replacing, light in the bathroom is very poor and the shaving/make up mirror is too high. There is no garage at the hotel so if traveling by car you have to park some distance away which is very expensive but speak to the hotel first they will give you the address of a car park that they have an arrangement with for discounted parking.
"Excellent hotel for sightseeing"
I had stayed in this hotel over 30 years ago as a teenager, so chose it again as I remembered how well placed it is for the station and the city centre. The staff are all very friendly and happy for help with any queries. The initial room we were shown to was very dark and overlooking the side alley, so we asked if it was possible to move. The reception staff were happy to move us to a room overlooking the street at the front which gave us a lovely view of the town and the Xmas lights. The room was small witth very little storage space but for a 4 night stay was fine, and clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also small with a shower instead of the preferred bath, but was clean and adequate. The location is superb, being a 5 minute walk from the station and right in the main shopping area of the city. There are plenty of food outlets and pubs very close by, and all the main attractions are within easy walking distance. There is also a tram stop right outside the hotel. Breakfast is not included, but offers a large range of cold and cooked buffet options so we were happy to pay the extra. It would be expensive to eat dinner at the hotel every night, but for our last evening it was very good. The restaurant and bar is open to the public and is clearly popular as a meeting place and for post-shopping drinks which gives it a lively and friendly atmosphere.
"Ideal for us"
We stayed for four nights (from the UK) and it was the perfect base for us. We hardly spent any time there but the room (No.109) was modern, comfortable and plenty big enough. The location meant that returning to drop off shopping/change clothes/have a nap during the busy days was no problem. If you want somewhere pleasant and central, go for this place. You won't be wowed but you won't be disappointed. All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional
"Nice hotel...Great Staff"
Located on Dam square. The hotel is clean and accommodating. Fair pricing. Bathroon a little small. Tea / Coffee and a fridge are available. Free Wi-Fi, Double glass windows. But the important factor is the staff....with no exception, always welcome you with a smile, anxious to help and advise. It has been a while since I got such a service. I will definitely recommend and come back on my next trip to Amsterdam.
"Lovely staff, okay rooms"
Hotel: Rooms are really pretty decent sized for a European hotel. Our bathroom was a shoebox with mold problems in the grout, as there was no distinct area between the rest of the bathroom and the shower so the water goes pretty much everywhere. They need better exhaust fans to keep the black mold out. If you're sensitive to mold, make sure you check your bathroom. The shower is just a hand held wand that doesn't stay straight in the holder, so expect a "self wash" shower experience (my husband was pretty unhappy with this). Our room is clean enough (it's not immaculate, but I'm pretty weird about cleanliness and I don't have any issues with it). Our king sized bed is an actual king, and is SUPER comfy. We just left Iceland where the mattresses may as well have been box springs, so imagine my delight to find a memory foam mattress! We have a room overlooking the Damrack on the 2nd floor, so it's slightly noisy (you'll hear bells, sirens, and loud exhausts, but no people yelling unless there is a huge crowd at the dam during the daytime/weekend shows)... but the view from our room is beautiful. The hotel EXPLICITLY states no smoking is allowed, but our neighboring room clearly didn't take that seriously and has been smoking like a chimney (both types of smoking) the entire time we've been here, so the hallway smells. I don't know that there is a hotel where you don't run into this though (in this city in particular). Where this hotel really excels is customer service. When we checked in, we told them this was our big honeymoon trip and not even 2 minutes after we got in, they showed up at our room with a sweet note, a bucket of iced- down (good) champagne and a rose. All of the front desk staff have been beyond welcoming and helpful... from restaurant suggestions to buying tram tickets, to just generally chatting about travelling... They have been lovely. Whoever does the hiring for this place is fantastic. Restaurant: Service is much better than most restaurants we've been to in Amsterdam this far. I ate the salmon/herbed cheese/cucumber sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had a club and said it was a standard club sandwich. ...but the Dutch appetizer sampler was great. Their croquettes are absolutely incredible. Lattes were a bit on the over-roasted bean side of things, but completely passable and served with a delicious cookie for dunking. All in all, if you're wanting to stay at a hotel in the midst of all the action, but want some comfort and a little luxury, this is a good hotel. If you're wanting a 5 star luxury experience with tranquility and immaculate rooms- I'd look elsewhere.
