"excellent town centre hotel with bonus of a super spa"
Stayed in this hotel on a Riviera Travel escorted tour - our 7th in 10 year. This is a modern hotel well situated close to the heart of Aix. The outdoor swimming pool is set against the old city wall. Included in your guest privileges is use of the attached Sextius Spa with more swim pools, saunas and treatment shops - really good. The bed rooms are larger than usual in France and well equipped. The Orangery is the main dining area. Breakfast buffet is pretty good but the cooked breakfast cools off in the bain marie.Evening meals are fairly good for menu and price. Reception staff are very good, dining room staff more varied in skill and attitude. The Cours Mirabeau, bus and train stations are an easy 10 minute walk. Even closer to the Aquabella is the Place Cardeurs full of restaurants to suit most tastes and pockets.
"Good hotel in a good location"
My wife and I spent seven nights here whilst on a Riviera Travel trip to “Undiscovered Provence”. The reception staff were very helpful, and check in was very efficient. During the week one young man (Mickael') was particularly helpful in booking restaurants for us. A word of warning – most restaurants in Aix do not open seven nights a week, so it is useful to check and book beforehand. Our room on the second floor was a decent size. It had a bathroom/shower room with a separate toilet. There was always plenty of hot water whatever time of day. The toiletries were replaced frequently as were the towels (even when we did not leave them in the bath). One small complaint – the towels were a bit thin. We had a large double bed. There is adequate storage space with a double wardrobe and several drawers, with a safe in the wardrobe. We had a kettle with tea and coffee plus a bag of nibbles. The large flatscreen TV had a few English channels including BBC1, BBC2, BBC World and CNN. Breakfast was good, although it was a bit of a scrum some mornings. There are 2 or 3 fresh fruit juices plus water, yoghurts, plenty of fresh (not tinned) fruit, about ten different cereals, a variety of breads, cheeses, ham, preserves, croissants and pastries, plus some hot food if you want it, and various teas and coffees. Our trip included two evening meals from the hotel’s “Alto” menu – a choice of two starters, two mains (one meat, one fish) and two desserts. As it rained heavily one night we ate there a third time. Of the 18 courses we had, 16 were good – a steak was tough and a crepe was leathery – so overall the food was good. [Also we had meals included at Le Mas d’Entremont and L’Otre restaurants]. Guest have use of the large spa, but we did not have time to use any of the facilities. Overall I would recommend this hotel for people visiting Aix.
Visited this hotel with Riviera holidays. Great location for visiting Aix en Provence as able to walk to centre of the town easily. Hotel staff very helpful and obliging. Nothing too much trouble. Rooms clean and functional with shower over the bath. Breakfast self service. Coffee from machines but very good. Evening meal reasonable. Outdoor swimming pool in a lovely setting with plenty of sun loungers with pool towels from reception. They do have a spa but we did not use. Would use this hotel if we visit Aix again
"Tidy, spacious and quiet"
We arrived at the Aquabella as our first stop in Europe, and were impressed right away by the helpful staff, clean and spacious room (with good air conditioning), quiet ambiance, and very good restaurant. Its location right at the edge of the old city made it a great headquarters for exploring the town, and at the end of our Provence tour, we were happy to be there once again, for one night, in preparation to catching the TGV (not exactly near the urban area of Aix) to Paris. Front desk staff were always helpful in helping us with suggestions for dining, booking a taxi, and so forth. Even when a large group arrived hours early for their rooms, the staff was pleasant in storing the considerable baggage and offering pleasant places to wait.
"Nice Property Situated Well to Old Part of the City"
Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff at the front desk conversed well in English and were very helpful to us. Breakfast is presented well in the large dining room, but the scrambled eggs were so loose they were unappetizing. They also do not serve hard-boiled eggs, as you are expected to "bathe" your own raw egg. The spa appeared to be inviting, but with no translation for spa services in English in your room, it was difficult to decide if you wanted to schedule a massage or treatment.Overall, we had a good experience here.
