Located in a quiet area with a short walk to the attractions. Clean and fairly comfortable with decent sized bathroom. The buffet breakfast has the basics - nothing more. There is a restaurant and bar on site but I didn't try them.
"Centrally located in beautiful Florence"
Nicely appointed, clean rooms. Pleasant and accommodating staff. We found this hotel to be a welcome oasis and great location for exploring the sites in and around this artfully beautiful and historic city. A pleasant and tasty breakfast fueled all our adventures touring downtown and the wonderful Tuscany wineries. San Gimignano towers provide one of the best views of the region. The Athenaeum Hotel provided us very satisfied visitors the perfect refuge to relax and recharge for the next adventure to come.
Once we found it after walking around in circles from the station (suggest taxi). The welcome was friendly and efficient from Jacob(') at the front desk. Rooms aren't particularly spacious but as we weren't there for sitting in the room it was ideal. Clean with nice crisp bed linen and fluffy towels. Requested an additional pillow and a bath robe which were delivered promptly. Breakfast was more than sufficient with a selection of hot and cold buffet! Staff were always on hand to offer assistance too. Piedro from the restaurant and bar was friendly and in spite of being a little short staffed provided a really good service. Interesting to talk to too! He understand our Yorkshire humour at least! The front desk were a fountain of information and gave good directions and help with regard to taking a tour and taxis! On a slightly negative side the bathrooms and carpets were on the tired side and perhaps need either upgrading or a deep clean but it wasn't a great concern. It would have been helpful if tea/coffee makers were placed in rooms with such is the way in European city hotels! Especially given no room service at certain times. The hotel caters to large groups of tours giving quick turn rounds but this didn't effect us at all! We would stay again.
The hotel was very nice. The room was clean and well equipped with a small terrasse. The location was pretty good, one street and 10 minute walk to the duomo. The service at the front desk was very rude however.
"Walking distance of the duomo"
We have just returned from a week in Florence, staying at the athenaeum hotel. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, the food in the restuarant is reasonably priced. I haven't given five stars however, because the standard rooms are very small, as are the ensuite shower rooms, so if you intend to spend time chilling in the room, you may want to upgrade the room or try elsewhere - however for us it was fine as we were out most of the time. Breakfasts were good, always replenished even towards the end of breakfast time. Bear in mind that in this hotel, you don't appear to need to wait to be seated for breakfast as you do in many other hotels - we simply sat down and then helped ourselves. The hotel itself is close enough to walk to the major attractions, and there are some lovely gardens and the accademia only about a ten minute walk away.
