"Barcelo Maya Palace is excellent"
Awesome resort. The beach and swimming are great. We snorkeled and the fish were plentiful. The best part was that there were sea turtles just off the beach so we followed them (and didn't even have to pay for a tour). If you stay in the Palace, you can eat or drink at any of the adjoining hotels (Tropical, Colonial, Caribe and Beach). The food was excellent at the restaurants & buffet, especially the ones within the Palace. They have a dolphinarius within the resort (you do pay extra)... we thoroughly enjoyed our time with the dolphins. Entertainment wasn't as good as other resorts we've been to.
"Beautiful, fun, relaxing family vacation spot"
Clean rooms, delicious food, especially the Japanese and Brazillian a la cartes. Most awesome experience was feeding the huge sea turtles right out our beach. Beautiful animals that came to look at us and eat some bananas of course. The pools were wonderful too. Had a great time playing with our grandsons, aged 9 and12. Close to Playa del Carman and various excursions as well. Staff were so helpful and very considerate. I highly recommend this resort.
Our view was so beautiful, it looked fake. So happy to look at it every day. The resort was amazing, the beach was beautiful, breath taking actually. The food was great in all the restaurants and buffets. The fact that not many hotel staff members speak English is annoying, you would think they would know standard phrases, but some knew nothing at all! We went top shelf so had the special check in service. That was my only other complaint, I didn't feel like I was being treated special, in fact, most of the time they acted like you were bothering them if you stooped in to ask a question or make a reservation. I paid a lot of money for that service so I expected to be treated nicely. Other than that, the resort was top shelf. We were in the Palace which could only be enjoyed by Palace guests not the guest of the other Barcelo hotels next door. I recommend you book any excursions on line ahead of time because you will pay a lot less.
Unfortunately nothing has changed since my initial visit in march. Check in and check out process way too long and reservation process for the restaurants is a complete and utter joke! I have read reviews clear back from 2 years ago with the mgmt responding that they will look into this, that and the other without anything being done. It is a lot of money for some things that should be complimentary -costing way more than should be. Costs for wifi, bowling, water parks and some alcohol is absolutely uncalled for in this caliber of all inclusive! The resort is indeed beautiful. However you are not ever guaranteed the room you request and pay for in advance. Sad as I really hope things had changed. Just really tired of being nickel and dimed here with worry that everything I am signing for or doing is a scam to get more money out of my wallet.
As a family we have been many times and although there are other good hotels in the area, you just can't beat the fantastic staff and service. Everything is perfect, the atmosphere, the rooms, the food and choice of restaurants for premium members. Looking forward to another trip in the near future.
