This place is very neat. however you should call to see which building it is or you will be driving around in literal circles for a while. then you need to have a bell hop key card you into the lobby for the higher floors require a room key to enter. once in the lobby the staff are really great hosts.This place was CLEAN. The bed was comfortable and view amazing. Book this hotel in advance like a couple months because the discount is amazing.
"Beautiful Beaux Arts"
The Hotel: Located at the top three floors of the Marriot Marquis - This boutique hotel exceeded my expectations. The charming check-in area was very intimate and I received emails prior to my visit asking if there was anything they could assist with prior to check-in. I indicated that we had an early flight and would need an early check-in, when we arrived no rooms were ready. Even though early check-in was not 100% guaranteed, I expressed that the previous concierge agent had indicated that there was VERY high possibility or receiving a room, and I would not be willing to pay to upgrade. I also let her know that I was only in miami for one night and I would have also gone and done my important errands in the mean time had I known the room was not ready. The agent recognized my disappointment and immediately upgraded me to the available bay view room to put me at ease. THATS IS CUSTOMER SERVICE. The Room: Gorgeous views, fabulous bathroom with Mirror TV, comfortable beds, Mies van der Rohe designer chairs, Bang and Olufsen telephones, automatic blinds and TV screens, electronic tablet with your name and welcome message to control all the technology and media. The Met Cafe: Awesome burger - hotel prices - great service MiniBar: Top shelf liquors - good selection Valet Parking: 45$ Fee - for the overnight - but we just call down and the car was always available and the bellmen were VERY courteous.
"Gorgeous view, tricky tech"
This is a boutique hotel within a large Marriott property. There is a separate check-in with a breakfast area (more later) and I assume upgraded rooms, although I did not see the Marriott rooms to compare. Apparently the hotel has just become part of the Autograph division of Marriott but as yet does not give a Marriott points. The room itself was lovely with a fabulous view of the harbor and bay. The bathroom was spacious with an open transom that let in sunlight without the overly trendy open bath area which I find more silly than sexy. Linens and bed were good and there were adequate plugs and lighting by the bed and desk (but why were extra towels hidden in a closet OUTSIDE the bath'). Water pressure was just OK and here is where I get to the "tech" aspects of the review. First I tried to turn on the TV - not generally an advanced operation! No luck. Decided to call front desk - couldn't figure out how the phone worked! Took TV remote and one phone extension to desk for lessons! Went back to room and tried again. No luck! Went back to desk and asked for help. Engineers arrived. I went out. Came back an hour or so later - engineers (2) still there. Explained that they were just about finished fixing TV but still working on phones. After another hour or so, after they went to "phone room" and back twice, they got one phone working. I thanked them and told them not to bother with the other extensions. They told me I was not alone - technology was an issue .... Got ready for bed and tried to turn off TV embedded in bathroom mirror. Couldn't turn it off! Gave up and went to sleep (with flickering light from bathroom TV coming through the aforesaid transom) and In the morning asked to have it fixed. Got up in the morning and tried to open drapes to beautiful view but they wouldn't budge. Searched near windows and then by bed for controls - two logical places I thought. No luck. Finally found controls on wall far from window by minibar. I shared my experience with others at the conference I was attending and had to laugh, all were having the same issues - and this is a very well-travelled crowd very accustomed to figuring things out in myriad hotels in myriad cities and countries. They are simply trying too hard with all of the technology - sometimes simple is best! Despite the tech issues, service was very good, particularly the very efficient and pleasant young lady serving in the breakfast area. I regret that I don't remember her name, but she deserves a shout out. Breakfast itself (basic continental - no frills) - and room service seemed to be identical to that in the larger Marriott - no separate food service. Pretty pedestrian, but a pleasant room. Not sure why they don't set it up as a club lounge and at least have wine and nibbles in the evening. Not the hotel's issue but I had an awful dinner at DB Bistro Moderne, but it was a set menu with a large group so perhaps not representative. I have had good meals at other outposts. All in all I enjoyed my stay and thought the hotel had potential - fix the glitches, set up a club lounge, improve the food and it would be on a par with the other luxury hotels in the area. Right now I think it is a bit overpriced for what it is, but I would give it another chance at some point.
"Excellent hotel "
The rooms in this hotel were absolutely amazing. The room was really big and spacious with a double bed, small sofa, coffee table. The curtains and tv could be controlled electronically so the tv could be tilted etc through the remote. The room was cleaned daily and had tea and coffee facilities with a coffee machine. There was a minibar which you would have to pay for however the water was free. Molten brown bathroom products were provided daily and the bathroom was absolutely amazing. The room we stayed in had a spa bath which was amazing and the bathroom mirror had a tv in it which was a nice touch. Overall this was a great stay would definitely recommend this hotel. Would definitely stay here again.
"A lovely property with aspirations of being an exclusive property."
A logical comparison for this hotel is to compare it to the JW Marriott Marquis in the same building. The rooms at this hotel are not significantly better than those at the JW Marriott Marquis. The staff is excellent: polite, helpful, and and a pleasure to deal with. Where I feel the hotel came short was in the lounge offerings. The continental breakfast was similar to that in a much lower ranked property and not as varied as the one at the JW Marriott. It consisted of a small selection of fruit, a large selection of cereals in small boxes, a small selection of breads and croissants, and not much more. Orange juice was not fresh squeezed but bottled. When I requested eggs, I was told by the wait staff that the breakfast was "continental" and limited to the somewhat meager offerings. Overall, I would say that the hotel's objective of differentiating itself in a superior class from its immediate neighbor, the JW Marriott Marquis, came short because of its inability to provide a meal, breakfast, with the quality and variety one would expect for property that is positioning itself in the 5-star luxe range.
