Ca' Nigra Lagoon Resort is located on the Canal Grande, the main and most suggestive waterway of Venice along which most of the city's majestic palaces stand.
"Venice Grand Canal Hotel"
Wonderful hotel situated on the Grand Canal. We visited for four nights in late September and early October. Small, with nice rooms and very personalized service. Breakfast was very good and served in a nice space. We very much enjoyed drinks served at tables in the garden overlooking the very busy Grand Canal. Service was excellent. The front desk helped us with good restaurant recommendations and a spur of the moment trip to a Murano glass workshop. We will return.
"Luxurious experience of Venice"
We have stayed at Ca Nigra before as we love sitting in the garden, fascinated by all the different boats on the Grand Canal; vaporetto, taxis, gondolas, police, ambulance, builders, bin men, beer men, rubbish collection, even a hearse on the way to the cemetery. To us, this is what Venice is all about. The hotel is very quiet and richly furnished, even the huge landing on the first floor. On this trip we paid €810 for two nights in September. We booked direct with the hotel and were given a large (30m2 ish) first floor room overlooking the quiet walled garden at the back with a small balcony (just room for two chairs and a tiny table) with a view of the bridge over the side canal. The hotel is 10 minutes’ walk from the rail station and two minutes from the Riva De Biasio vaporetto (waterbus) stop. Note: you have to schlep your luggage over two bridges from the station unless you get the vaproretto. It might not appeal to some of our American friends as it is genuinely old (18th century) with lots of antique furniture. That said, it has modern lifts, the air-con worked fine and we had unlimited hot water in our large bathroom. The hotel was a bit naughty on one night; offering a themed party in the garden with drinks at €15 per hotel guest. As there were very few guests and we had not brought “Black & White” outfits, we declined and went for dinner at the restaurant across the canal. During our meal we saw more and more party guests appear in the garden opposite. So on our return we went into the garden albeit without tickets (we were paying €400 a night and the garden is one of the hotel’s main attractions). We discovered that it was the hotel owner’s private birthday party. We were made welcome and enjoyed ourselves into the early hours. Be aware that the hotel does host functions (including weddings) and these may impact on your stay. As a treat at the end of our European Railway tour, Ca Nigra provided a really luxurious experience of Venice. From the hotel we took the vaporetto ( 2 stops on line1 from Riva De Biasio to San Stae then the 50 minute €15 Orange Line (Linea Arancio) to the airport and a quick EasyJet home to Luton. PS The waterbus is not the fastest way to the airport but this is Venice and two pensioners did manage their luggage OK.
"Nice hotel but unclear about certain rates"
We have just checked out from the hotel and our stay was very nice until the check out where we were told to pay a certain amount for the in room breakfast. We had asked two days ago the price for it as it was unclear on the form and it was told to us that it was 5 euros per person + extras if ordered. At check out it turned out to be 20 per person + extras + 5 euros extra service charge. We paid because at the end of the day we had no written proof but we clearly had not understood it this way. So overall, our stay was great until the breakfast charge that I think was way too overpriced for what it was and have I had known, we would had gone down to the buffet to pay that price or eaten out.
"Very very good! "
We Stayed here last week, it was fantastic! Very convenient location for buses and trains. The staff were friendly and helpful, a small problem with our room was resolved quickly and with professionalism. Such a lovely hotel!
"A lovely hotel, but not for single rooms"
This is a very nice hotel, off the beaten track a bit, but still on the Grand Canal. There are beautiful gardens, and the staff is very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast is wonderful...BUT, do not ever get a single room here. I had a room with a nice view, but the size of a prison cell! When I used the shower, the bathroom flooded, and there is no air control. I had other working associates that had much better deals at other hotels, really beautiful single rooms, for less than I paid for a cramped space!!!!
