"Location, breakfast and service great"
Like the hotel's name suggests, it is close to theater which is the National Theater just cross the street. Location is thus central. City hall is round the corner and so is the King's castle. The spot is still peaceful and nights were silent. Staff was friendly, smiley and helpful both at the reception and at breakfast. Which was a great breakfast! All ingredients of high quality, good selection, great coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, nice bread etc. The room drops the rating with a star. It was alright but nothing special especially comparing to the feeling we got from other parts of the hotel. Bed was narrow for two and the duvet hardly covered two. Though the quality was still fine. I booked De luxe room, but I am not sure this room after all was it. Like in another review spotted, we too found the room temperature way too warm. Room's air conditioning unit was not in use, maybe it is just in summer months. Anyway, fortunately the window could be opened and slept it open full night. Bathroom was a letdown. Somehow not well planned layout overall, and water from the shower flooded all over the floor and stayed there like a small pond. We left the room twice only after noon. Our room was not cleaned those days at all. Still someone had made the bed when we came back in the evening. However we found the pricing very reasonable for the quality and location. My room comments are not to be taken as very harsh, overall everything was fine.
"Great central location "
Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. Very individual in style and non-chainy, lots of character. Superb breakfast Only reason it is not a 5 star review is ... The room really was rather small for this price, and was too hot so needed window open all night
The hotel is in a great location and easily walkable from Oslo S if you haven't quite got your bearings as to the metro\tram\bus system. We stayed for a few nights and the top floor room was very comfortable. The breakfasts were also great and the Fjallbrod option was a particular highlight along with the salmon (of which a great deal was eaten) meats and cheeses. There was also some cooked items but they were mostly ignored by us. In the room there was a minibar with plenty of space so we used the fridge for chilling large bottles of tap water for our adventures. Although hugely positive there were some issues:- The Wi-Fi wasn't working well initially (the computer system failed but this was resolved the next day) The plumbing woke us up at 7am one morning as it appeared someone nearby was having a shower and the pipes at our room started roaring. Breakfast at the weekend doesn't start until later and we had to leave before that for the airport train - given how good the breakfasts were it was disappointing. Would be more than happy to stay again.
Stayed here this weekend with my wife. Good location near trains, shopping centre. Old style hotel. Friendly staff. Only one super slow elevator. Room was large (deluxe room). Some tv channels were not working properly. Room was clean. You can here people having "A good time" through ventilation system. Door to toilet was practically non existent. You should know your partner well to be comfortable. Great pizza at the restaurant. Breakfast was a bit disappointing since they had nothing for a sweet tooth like me. (Only croissants) I need waffles or pancakes. We are often in Oslo, but will never go back to this hotel.
The hotel is unique, it has a splendid interior design, seems that it has his own history and mistery in the same time. Each floor is special, something absolutly new for me as a hotel concept. It is very good located, very close to the harbour, shops, restaurants and...train station. The room was clean, quite, good view outside, but a bit small (do not take this as anegative point, Oslo has to be visited, you should not stay inside!!!). The bed was perfect! And the best part....the astonishing breakfast! Very close to French cuisine, fresh orange juice, mixt of cheese, fruits, extrem fine buffet....a very good coffee...what else' Try it!
