"Convenient for LGW but in need of refresh"
Good rate for mid week stay. Large corner twin room - not sure why both beds located next to each other - plenty of room for them to be slightly further apart! Decor dated but functional. We had a bar meal in the sports bar which was good. Staff helpful. Charge for parking but not surprising given location. Hotel just needs some TLC - stairs to bar need a clean, bathroom floor really cold, windows a bit draughty but clean sheets and friendly staff offset issues.
"A Good Deal"
When you consider we found a night in a en-suite room and 15 nights parking for £79 (through SkyPark) then who could complain' Having set the context then I would say the hotel itself is a little dated. The rooms were more than adequate (TV, comfortable bed, nice bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities) but there was a musty smell in our room and along the corridors. Not terrible and the room was clean. I opened the bedroom window for what was clearly the first time in a good while and about a dozen Ladybirds fell out of the frame, half of which were dead. Somehow Ladybirds are acceptable but Cockroaches would create alarm, in the same way Guinea Pigs are cute but Rats are not. Anyway for one very cheap night we did not complain. We purchased an evening meal in the bar which was tasty and well presented going for the Fish Platter for 2 @ £20. Not a massive portion in truth but OK. The cheapest bottle of wine however was £24 and that wasn't at all great. The hotel also has a nice looking restaurant but that was very pricey. The hotel is about 5 miles from Gatwick airport and they organise a mini-bus to the terminals. This is not included in the room/parking package but was very reasonable at £6.50 each. The hotel also have a discounted rate for taxi for the return journey. We paid £11.50. We would stay here again if using Gatwick but will remember to pack a couple of bottles of wine in our overnight bag! Bottom line is convenience at a low price for the parking/accommodation; I think the ranting of others is a bit over the top..
"A bit of business advice - close!"
Four of us met at this hotel for a business meeting. It was not our intended destination, but where we originally went had problems with their Wi-Fi. If I could find one good thing to say about this hotel it is that the Wi-Fi was working - once you'd gone through a tortuous process to get connected. From the moment we walked in our reception was cold - as was the hotel. Just one look at the tired and dated decor made me realise that I haven't seen such a hotel outside of a TV comedy show. We found the bar area and the fact we were the only people there should, on hindsight, have told us something - like 'leave'. Instead we tried to order food. One of our group wanted to know what the 'soup of the day' was, which is when we thought we had become part of a comedy sketch! I went to the bar, to ask. I can appreciate English not being the staff member's first language, but, after four attempts, between the four of us, we worked out her "Assysef" interpreted as, "I'll ask the chef." As potato and asparagus seemed a strange combination, my colleague chose an alternative. I chose a 'slow-cooked pulled pork panini, with sweet potato fries'. Oh well, it sounded good! What arrived was an open panini with a pile of something that looked like mushy coleslaw covered in mayonnaise on one side and a mess of meat on the other - on top of a mass of butter - together with chunky chips. When I said that the menu said it came with sweet potato fries, she responded with, "No, ain't done - what you expect me do about it'" and she walked off. Consequently, I ate two mouthfuls of vinegary pork and three chips. When the staff member finally returned, I asked why, when the menu was quite clear, had the chef cooked something different' The reply was, "No, my fault, what you expect me do 'bout it'" There are times in life to give up! She was replaced behind the bar by a young man before we ordered coffees. We asked if they had skimmed milk and got a reply of 'half' - which we took to mean half-skimmed milk, not half a coffee. What arrived as a latte was 50% foam and 50% coffee. If we'd known the area better we would have decamped, but having converged from different places, we didn't have time going on a hunt. Instead we had to move to a different area in the bar, in an attempt to prevent hypothermia setting in, as the heating was not on despite the temperature being 1 degree outside. When we finished our meeting we went to find the pay machine for the car park. (Yes, you did read that correctly!) The receptionist gave us tickets and said that they would get us out. Nowhere does it tell you that they provide these, so you also need psychic powers if you have the misfortune to stay here. One of my colleagues then asked me if anyone was staying at the hotel, as she hadn't seen anyone enter or leave the reception area all day. Personally, I was still expecting a TV producer to appear, point out hidden cameras, and tell us that we were on a programme like 'you've been framed'. The whole experience was rounded off by the fact that, on reaching the car park exit barrier, it was fixed in the open position anyway. I have never been to such a dull, dated, cold place with such rude staff and, as a professional business coach, I only have one tip for the management - close!
"Still no sign of improvement. "
This is in fact the fourth time we have stayed here, so our review is not based on a one off experience. You may ask why we've been 4 times when you read what follows' Well, we stay here when attending the QSI Awards held on site, so we are just hoping they'll be held elsewhere soon. Fingers crossed. The rooms have always been large and spacious. There ends the positive points. The furniture in the rooms is a mix of dark wood, dated, a bit tatty and damaged, to slightly more modern, light wood and often broken (hinges etc. ). It's a real mish mash. The bathrooms are big and on this occasion, the shower actually produced a 'spray' rather than a solid jet of water more like a hose pipe. There was a bath and a shower, so you do have a choice. They do feel tired though and need a freshen up - see pics of shower tray. The wallpaper - and obligatory 1980's border - were peeling. The curtains don't match the carpet or even the trimmed pelmet above them. That all look like they come from different rooms. Quite bizarre. In our room this time, the carpet was ok, though other people on our party had thread bare and bald carpets, which is what we've had on previous occasions. The curtains also looked like a map of lost islands with all the stains on them. That was pretty disgusting. This time we had a balcony, which was great as the rooms can get quite hot. The downside was we were able to see the hotel is as tired outside as it is inside. The facia / soffit panels of the gutter were completely rotten and the walls were crumbling - see pics. The rooms are clean (apart from the curtains) and the beds are comfy, but if you have a choice, you may well find something better.
Stopped at this hotel on a number of occasions for business. Stayed in room 211 on 22/11/2016 and was so disappointed, the reasons are: 1. When now entering the car park you are now charged for staying at there hotel' 2. Reception - not the most experienced in customer care or just not interested in there job 3. Room 211 - I have attached photos, this room is really run down, carpet worn in places, bed noisy if you moved around, room generally tired looking with a lack of decorating for a number of years, Bathroom is just disgusting as you can see from the photos attached even with some tiles broken with sharp edges which could cause injury to somebody 4. Went down to the Sports Bar, food ok if you like microwaved food but paying restaurant prices 5. WiFi appears to be blocked so that you if you require wifi you guessed it, you have to pay for it 6. Bar staff and restaurant staff are very good, friendly & helpful
