"shabby definately not chic"
We booked this as a "mystery hotel 4* booking which included parking our car for out weeks trip to Santorini. Thank god we only stayed one night. We were travelling with out 14 month old son and the first room we were allocated stank so heavily of smoke I was considering getting out my inhaler having only spent seconds in the room. Thankfully we we given another room but I have to say this is by no means a 4* hotel. The carpets were treadbare and grubby with old coffee/tea stains. The bathroom was ok but in general the room reminded me of 1982' everything was so old and shabby, even the desk and side table were stained with the lacquer peeling like it had been left out in the rain. It is a shame as the staff are nice but I would definitely not stay here again. All I can say is that if you have very low expectations you will be ok.
"Hotel in the middle of a car park."
This used to be a grand stately home and when it became a hotel it was always THE place to visit in the Gatwick area. I used to attend a number of impressive functions here when I worked in the area and still remember how grand it felt driving up the drive. Unfortunately this hotel has gone the way of other airport hotels and decided it can make money by offering car parking deals to holiday makers which means that the place is one big car park. It's really unattractive and hard to find anywhere to park, I eventually ended up parking in a muddy swamp. And the hotel has also done away with its swimming pool which is another big loss. Having said all that the interior is still grand, the staff welcoming and helpful and the bedrooms are comfortable and a decent size. This is still a nice place to stay, just a pity that they've felt they've had to make compromises.
First of all this hotel needs renovation. Food was bad and expensive. The service was very slow. The wifi which we had to pay for was almost unusable and we had problems with cell phone reception. Ridiculous. Everyone in our group had this problem. We asked the reception for a taxi to a restaurant close by which we had found on the internet before our trip but the staff had no knowledge of it. The staff should have known better. It is The Curious Pig in the Parlour, one mile away on Effingham Road. We could not go online on the internet to find the address of this restaurant because the wifi did not work and there was no 3G signal. The staff refused to call a taxi for us so we were forced to eat at the hotel restaurant. The only positive thing about this hotel was good size of the room (quadruple room) and the beds were comfortable. But the room was not cheap, 120 pounds a night and breakfast not included.
"Tired and jaded"
Stayed a couple of nights whilst at a family wedding. Easy to get to from the main motorway and in a secluded setting, however, the decor is out of date and the room was well equipped but again could have done with a refurb to make it look and feel more fresh and brighter. There was a distinct lack of staff and so took over 30 minutes to check in/out and during busy times the bar was difficult to get served in as the barman seemed overwhelmed.
"Worse hotel ever!!!!"
DON'T STAY HERE.. On arrival staff were rude finally checked into our club room year it was big balcony was dirty toilet seat scratched. TV didn't work and the swimming pool was out of order and had been for four years. Who place needs a make over with decent staff. I ASKED for hotel MANAGER 8 times did he speak with me NO GOT TOLD TO POP IN WRITING...Taxi to airport 11.50 each way. Breakfast don't eat it.. it's rubbish we paid 13.95 for it and food was limited only watery scrambled egg. Cheap cold sausages manky and tasteless fatty bacon black pud and cold hash browns not forgetting the cheap tacky baked beans for hot food then a limited choice of continental stuff.. spent alot of money on a one night stay and wish I never bothered. TV didn't work asked when it wud be fixed they said 15 mins waited all night still no TV when leaving no apology nothing... Close this place down and start again it could be amazing
