"Bit of a lottery if you stay here, unfortunately"
I have stayed here three times now, all within the space of a month, and had one good, one bad and one average stay - so it's only fair that I give an average rating. I stayed here with colleagues and the problems seem to be consistent across the rooms - each time I have stayed there has been no working temperature control so I've been roasting and I've been freezing. The wifi is erratic. The rooms are acceptable in terms of cleanliness and comfort but the worst element is the noise, which seems to be connected to the air conditioning units on the roof - I have found that the higher you are, the worse it is and the noise really will keep you awake all night. I was given complimentary water and jelly beans in my room one night - so not all bad! Breakfast choice is ok, and the bar food / restaurant food is acceptable quality (but no more). The view of Windsor Castle is nice - but from many windows you can also see the Holiday Inn...might want to try there...
"Never again will I stay here."
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and didn't get a decent sleep on any of them. Night 1 I was woken by the loud buzzing sound coming from the main electrical sub-station just outside, it was so invasive I couldn't get back to sleep and even if I could at 3.40am someone started panel beating a car in the shipping container village just beside the sub-station. At breakfast I asked them to move me to the other side of the hotel to get away from the noise, they agreed to move my gear while I was away that day. I got back to find they had moved me from 421 to 221, yep same room just 2 floors closer to the noise. They then moved me to 205. A much nicer room if you happen to like being roasted, the moment I got in I opened the window and I didn't let it be shut till I left this morning. In spite of 3 or 4c temp outside every night I had to sleep on top of the bed and I was sweating from the moment I got in until I left in the morning. I tried using the room fan but even setting it to max cooling and letting it run for 2 hours whist I was out only resulted in an even hotter room. The only restaurant in the evening is a Singaporean Chinese and even though I like Chinese I don't want it every day. The alternative was to eat in the noisy bar that has seen far better days, every seat in the hotel I sat in had no bum support left in it so your bum sank well into and out of it. The food itself is served in minute portions and although tasty enough it doesn't justify the extortionate prices. I had been given what I thought was a generous budget of £30 a night but I had to be careful not to over spend as I went £5 over on the 1st night (steamed sea bass, noodles, ice cream and a cider). The Wi-Fi is so bad this is the 2nd time of writing this as it wouldn't let me download it last night. Also when I got moved into the 3rd room I found a bottle of prescription pills left behind by a previous guest. Having said the above all the staff were helpful and pleasant.
"Building alright, shame about the WiFi"
I stayed here for two nights on a business trip. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable, albeit a little on the warm side. Staff were perfectly polite and pleasant. However, the things that really let it down are firstly the Wifi - the free wifi was so awful that I struggled to send and receive emails. Needless to say, I couldn't download the second half of the murder mystery programme I had planned to watch. Staff told me that it had been awful for "a couple of months" and they were trying to fix it. Secondly, the location is grim. The view from my hotel looked like the land that hope had deserted. It's a taxi ride away from any major public transport hub (like the train station). I don't know Slough, so I booked the hotel because that was what came up on the company booking system. There are no appetising restaurants within walking distance, other than the hotel's own restaurant (and I didn't fancy Chinese). In fact, all of Slough presented very few options, and nothing more advanced than a branch of Pizza Express. There are far more options in Windsor, which is really no further away from many locations in Slough than this hotel and is generally far nicer.
