"A hidden gem"
Whenever I smell jasmine, I'll think of this hotel. Gorgeous vines of jasmine are in the courtyard of this beautifully restored home, with thoughtfully prepared rooms, and great beds. Breakfast by the pool was relaxing and simple, which is on pace with this pretty, little resort village by the water. Ask for a room with a view of the water, and you'll enjoy spectacular sunrise and sunsets. You may also meet some celebrities....they were filming a movie in the hotel while we were there, and everyone was charming and accommodating. The hotel owns the restaurant across the street, where you can watch the boats sail by over a bottle of wine and some well made Tunisian food. If you're looking for a quiet escape from the hectic pace of life, this is a charming hideaway to unwind.
"Perfect place to relax"
In the main village sidi bou said, famous for white and blu building in the nearby of Tunis the capital of Tunisia the harbor of peace, the Switzerland of Africa, the charming hotel of Dar Said is the perfect place where to go and have peace after the painful job....go ahead don't hesitate...thank you to all the professional staff, despite the difficult situation that faces The Tourism in Tunisia for the moment...
"Nice but Noisy and be Careful with Hired Taxi Arrangement"
The hotel itself was lovely but we stayed on a Friday night and a disco nearby played music till 4 AM. There clearly is no noise ordinance and we were so close that it felt like we were in the disco, not sleeping across the street. Also we left early in the morning and realized quickly that the attendant on staff had an arrangement with a taxi to "overcharge". We were aware of the estimated fair and he quoted us a significantly higher rate but lowered it as soon as we were clear that it was our last night and we were on our last Tunisian dinar. As soon as we hit the airport, the taxi cleared the meter and tried to charge 15 Tunisian more "for luggage". We walked away. The price from the hotel to the airport should be 15 dinar. Since we left early we did not get the true breakfast but the breakfast offered was stale bread, a 1/2 black banana and coffee. Not sure what is regularly offered but this was a disappointment. Also, there was no wifi in our room or at the pool common area that they stated wifi would be available. While I like the proximity and the old Tunisian style of the hotel, the noise level and experience in the morning was not as pleasant as the stays we had in downtown Tunis at a more reasonable priced Dar/ Dar Ben Gacem.
"Charming boutique hotel in the heart of picturesque Sidi Bou Said"
Hotel Dar Said is a converted rich merchant's residence dating from the mid 1800s in the heart of Sidi Bou Said. It has retained all the charm from the oriental architectural elements of the era, with interconnecting internal courtyards and patios with fountains, overall it's one of the nicest boutique hotels one can book in Tunis. There's a nice garden and a swimming pool around which breakfast is served with sweeping vistas over the gulf of Tunis; overall, an enchanting and wonderful setting. Rooms are furnished and decorated in the spirit of this traditional house; which means it's rather minimalistic and putting the accent on vintage furniture and fittings rather than modern comfort but it contributes to the atmosphere and is tastefully arranged. Staff is attentive and pleasant, very professional overall. There's also a spa facility within the hotel, but I haven't tried any of the services. The hotel does not have its own restaurant. Rather, it's using the Dar Zarrouk which is opposite the street (and under the same management/ownership) as the "hotel restaurant". Free wireless internet access with fairly good signal and speed is available in the rooms and throughout the hotel areas. The location of the hotel is right in the heart of Sidi Bou Said, a very picturesque village in the suburbs of Tunis. Carthage and La Marsa are nearby, but Tunis city center is farther away (around 30mins drive). The airport is also 25mins away. Overall, I would highly recommend the Dar Said for anyone looking for a boutique stay with a touch of classy authenticity in Tunis.
