"Finally a good nights sleep "
We celebrated my partner's birthday at this hotel, a special trip for both of us. Upon arrival at the airport, we could not find a taxi to ferry us to the hotel, hence, we caught a bus that dropped us off at the foot of the castle. We could not find the hotel. It was dark, cold and dreary, especially lost in a new city. That said, we contacted the hotel reception who gave us directions, it took us another 10 minutes to arrive at the door step, greeted by a young girl who spoke good English at reception. I was frustrated that I let my partner express our dissatisfaction getting lost and I found my way to the library bar, ordered two glasses of champagne for £30 and brought the same to my partner, she and I quenched our thirst and everything else was history. The receptionist walked us up to our room with a smile and apologised profusely for our earlier ordeal. In short, there needs to be more clear communication about how to get to the hotel if arriving by plane or train when they confirm reservation, easily done by sending a quick email. The room was clean, beautiful, very Victorian, comfy bed with big private balcony looking over the ramparts castle, my partner felt she was a princess in this majestic room. We slept very peacefully each night in this beautiful bed with comfy pillows. You can also access BBC and CNN on tv. Staff members are polite. Chambers maids greet you with a smile. We tried to book a table for lunch but they were fully booked but offered an alternative booking at another restaurant in town. The library bar had very old books, I tried the cognac and a bottle of wine. It's nice and cozy. Positives: clean, first class service, great drinks, next door to a church. Negatives if any directions to the hotel. Overall impression this is a first class hotel for all classes of people including the young and old
One of the best hotel expériences we've enjoyed. Friendly & professional staff. Superb room with great facilities. Perfect location for exploring the medieval cite. No wonder the cite is world heritage listed as it is a surreal experience.
"Unfortunatly more bad than good"
The bad: 1. Finding the parking, contacting the hotel for pick up, etc., was a disaster. The directions are poor, then the intercom system at the parking doesn't work, and we had no way to contact the hotel. We were lucky to run into the driver, but even then others also were waiting and wondering how to get to the hotel. It took multiple trips. The only plus was your driver Maxim was very nice about it. 2. Seriously, 66 Euros for breakfast for 2 that was cold and barely edible -- ridiculous. Felt totally cheated. 3. The crowded madness at checkout in the morning, with the one person working totally overwhelmed, and no driver or van to take us to our car: Another disaster. We ended up just dropping off the keys and walking out with our luggage down the long and windy path to the paid parking in the very cold morning. The good: 1. The location, once you finally get there, is exceptional. 2. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable, with quality fixtures and a comfortable bed. And a beautiful view from our private terrace. 3. The driver and bartender were both kind and professional. If the hotel was a little less expensive, you could excuse some of this, but at these rates... no.
"Great hotel. Fantastic location"
Located within the old fortified city, atmospheric narrow streets. Very welcoming but formal hotel. Very comfortable room & beds. Great breakfast buffet. Nice bar, good cocktails, barman very chatty & informative. Our room had great view & terrace over the fortified walls & the new town.
"PERFECT LOCATION, FRIENDLY STAFF, NICE BREAKFAST"
This was just a great hotel to base for exploring the walled city of Carcassone. It made it easy to go to meals inside the city like the wonderful La Barbacane restaurant! We also walked into the main city of Carcassone to see the market and get some views of the walled city from the river below. Our only recommendation is we felt the bed in room #1 could be replaced as it had seen better days and had now become a "deep valley bed" after so much use! The breakfast in the morning was nice with lots of different bread, fruit, and good cafe au lait!
