"A one of a kind GEM"
I visited the Hotel on a February Sat night and it was grand. Amazing ocean views and beach, extraordinary architecture and a truly historic hotel. Lots of people having lots of fun. It would have been $699 if I had chosen at the last minute to stay for the night and I chose to stay with friends. Over a dozen Presidents have stayed at the Coronado and it has played a large role in movies and literature for over 100 years. When in the area with more advance notice I could get a better rate but it isnt the size of the bed or the room itself that I would be purchasing. The beach and ocean view along with the century plus opulence of this grand hotel is unique to itself.
"Good food but expensive. "
Lunch for $70 for a turkey wrap and crab cake BLT with 2 non alcoholic drinks seems a little much. But the scenery counts for something. Even though the place was crowded we were served quickly and all the staff was very friendly. Of course spending the $70 meant our parking was only $5 so there is that ($30 if we hadn't spent over $50)
"Very good but pricey"
Visited the "Del" for a conference. Its history speaks for itself but I'm not sure I would regard it as 5 star. Its a BIG rangey hotel and was ideal for the conference but its not very personal. I stayed in the Ocean Tower block which is across the car park - the room was very good but again not exceptional for the quoted price (I was on a delegate rate). I saw a buffet breakfast advertised at $96 per person. However, there are many eating places close by. For any spinners - great classes on the beach. Its worth a visit to" tick" it off the list
"Safety Comes First!"
I must say I had heard so many interesting stories about the "Del" that I was so looking forward to staying there! Yes, it is historic and probably at one time was a 5 star hotel.... I was disappointed in that everything was so overpriced from food to shopping! A small ice cream sundae was $10.00...certainly not worth it!! The Sunday brunch was $95.00...and not worth it! The TV in our room had horrible reception and there were small bugs flying around!!! On the plus side we were right next to the beach...so beautiful! Aside from all this, there are no safety measures in place... the doors to the building we were staying in were always open. You were supposed to use your room key to get entrance to the building, but we never had to use it ...day or night, even after 10:00! There were people walking in and out...I did not feel safe at all! This hotel could certainly be all that is said to be, but they need to address many issues mainly the safety factor...we are living in 2017!
"Been there, done that"
Let me start by saying we have stayed at several 5 star hotels around the world. This is not worth $456 a night. $50.00 valet to park as a guest $40.00 self park. Front desk Somehow convinced us to upgrade $65.00 a night for ocean view thinking our room would be ready early, not the case. Keep in mind check in is 4pm....had lunch downstairs they hearded everyone in like cattle terrible service for $30 + meals. Weather was bad, not hotels fault, so only 1 bar in the entire complex. Not easy to just walk across the street. Bartender did not even acknowledge us, so we hunted for an open table. Our Room in another building, had to essentially check in twice. our second floor room obstructed by trees.... room is halfway updated, shotty work. Tv remote not working, ice machine not working. Oh, and fridge not even on. There is a $30.00 a day resort fee and we were told quote " for coffee and water" '''. The good!! great location right on the beach, they bring you your bags. Historic building. We will not return.....Been there done that.
