"Good hotel but had issues after I left"
The hotel was fine. The external structure is truly unique. The ballroom was very nice too. The room ( ocean tower) was good enough. Frankly, for an "iconic" hotel which charges as high as Del, the rooms can be a lot better, plusher. It does take time when one asks for something- but when you have almost given up, it comes! The problem I faced was after I checked out. When I asked for clarifications on some amount blocked on my credit card ( my bank claimed that), the staff sent a bill copy. That's it. Reminders elicited no response. I had to sort out everything from my end, which made my overall experience poor.
Yes, this place is ‘it’, and was our bucket list for the iconic experience at the ‘Del’. $600 later for a relatively cheap room (although we got the famous ‘ghost room’ in 3308 – very cool), it was a *somewhat* great experience. Simple things like they did not give us shampoo (think Motel 6 - 101), and after waiting 15+ minutes for housekeeping we still did not have our shampoo so off we were washing our hair with body wash since we were on a schedule. Now how crappy is that! 20 minutes later we got the shampoo! I realize this seems like nit-picking, but for a high-end place like this it is inexcusable!!! Otherwise, a truly great experience at one of the best hotels ever made.
If you go to Coronado once, you have to stay at the Del. It's a classic on the island. The grounds are well groomed and the rooms have all had recent renovations. If you want a beach/ocean view, you can stay in the main building or down by the pool. I prefer the rooms by the pool the you can walk right out to the beach. They cost more but it's so nice to just relax on the patio of your own room. I also like the garden view rooms in the old building. They are nice if you don't care about the ocean view. The are closest to the beach if you want to go down there. The tower rooms are no good. It's not like staying at the resort at all. It was built in the 70s and has zero charm. The main building has lots of bars restaurants and an ice cream parlor. The spa is also amazing. Parking is very limited so it's worth paying for self park.
"Location Location Location"
A hotel with old time charm and very well kept. An elevator man who has been there for over 35 years, the hotel truly has a great feel, the bar is a busy place as is the outside deck were you can grab a bite to eat. My room had a beautiful balcony overlooking a courtyard roomy enough that you didn't want to leave it. Great WiFi out there also. The restaurants on site are all very good and an amazing buffet breakfast (I usually don't eat breakfast and especially a buffet but this was very good) Very comfy bed and well kept room. My room was small but had a 9 foot ceiling so you didn't notice it. Rooms have a safe and large TV. Very friendly servers on the pool deck to make your stay very remediable.
