"Victorian Grandeur "
Being honest, we didn't spend a night in this exquisite hotel, but we dined, shopped, strolled the grounds, admired the gardens, walked along the shore, and felt like royalty. The staff, concierge, and shop keepers are generous in their kindness. Recommend you park in their lot for a nominal fee, or valet park. The Sunday Brunch is pricey, but we strongly recommend it! Whatever you do don't miss this magnificent hotel!
"One of America's great hotels. "Paradise.""
I give this hotel a lofty review, even though I have not stayed overnight. I visited twice, spending several hours on the property each time. It is so beautiful! I love the look of the historic white building with its prominent red roof and turrets. The building is spectacular inside and out, and the beach is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I love to gaze out to the water and see the cliffs of Point Loma in the distance, to the right, and then when I look far to the left I can see the beaches and hills of Mexico in the distance. What a terrific vista! I have had lunch and dinner here, on outside decks and in the dining room. I just love the place. I have stayed overnight at several great American hotels such as the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, the Homestead in Virginia, and the Fountainebleu in Miami Beach. The Hotel Del Coronado ("The Del") is in the same category of greatness. Someday I must spend the night. Highly recommended.
The Hotel del is an institution. We had a great time staying (it was our first) here...the elevator fascinated our boys (ages 6&10 at the time). The grounds were amazing, the pool & beach were fun and the vibe was old school cool. Our room was a little worn - but we considered that to be part of the charm. I convinced myself by the end of our trip that our hallway was haunted - that freaked out my kids big time! Ha! We really had a wonderful time - I would recommend it to anyone. I'm so glad we had the experience.
"Relax and Enjoy"
We love going to the Hotel Del. It is great place to unwind and relax. Coronado Beach is my favorite beach in all of San Diego. It is clean, the pool is always heated and the jacuzzi is big enough to accommodate many guests. Service is great. The shops are a fun place to browse and/or pick up some Hotel Del unique items. We usually stay here a couple of times a year. It is a little pricey, but so worth it.
"Good - but at sigtnificant cost"
This hotel is almost an institution .. it has been around for 128 years. Was on a 5 day business event, for my first visit. It is about 25 min on shuttle bus from the airport, these were event specific shuttles so can’t comment on usual shuttle. Check-in was efficient, staff pleasant, and were helpful whenever I had question during my stay, I had a room in the main hotel .. there are separate 'blocks' so don't get your choice wrong. I was on floor 5 ... there is a single elevator ... a large very old one, with telescopic gates and an elevator operator. ( who looked like he had been here for the 128 years) … He advised it is the oldest elevator in the US. Felt like – they could do with another faster elevator, for those that want function rather than history. The walk to my room was pretty significant ... this hotel is huge, that may impact your choice. Room was large, modern, bright ... bed was large & very comfortable, with a small truck load of pillows & cushions. Good sized bathroom, room had desk area, armchair, table and wide screen TV. I had a nice beach view to the Coronado beach & waves. Most of our food was pre-arranged on the business package and was OK ... but nothing special. Buffet meals, of average quality. On one night we had a beach BBQ ... loads of food but all burgers had been pre-cooked and were luke warm at best. On the final day I went to the main 'Sheerwater' restaurant ... breakfast was good,- but at $39 for one, it was not worth it .... seriously not worth it. Bar was nice, plenty of choice ... but again very expensive - $9.7 for a single beer. Outside there are extensive grounds ... in excellent condition, with immediate access onto the beach. Overall - impressive hotel, smacks of history
