"A magnificent hotel in a magnificent position in Biarritz, France."
This hotel was wonderful, provided everything we needed, was well positioned on the beach front, provided a lovely well equipped room, great restaurant/ breakfast area. Provides excellent outside eating and drinking areas. It had great access to a variety of activities including gym, spa beauty treatments and massage. It was a most enjoyable stay.
"Missing finishing touches"
Excellent in most respects but let down with poor toiletries and no bottled water with the turndown service. Both should be standard for a Leading Hotel of the World. Otherwise, nice architecture, friendly staff, good facilities and a good location.
"Chic Destination Hotel"
In early October, I stayed at the Hotel du Palais in a 4th floor room facing the Atlantic Ocean. It was a magnificent stay. First of all, the staff could not do enough for me. They attended to my every need, from keeping my room sparkling clean to making sure I took a hotel umbrella on a rainy day. Secondly the dining was first rate. I enjoyed a marvelous dinner at the Michelin starred restaurant with synchronized waiters, and also loved breakfasting in the semicircular ocean-view buffet , which was more like a grand ballroom, with floor length windows. The breakfast choices were staggering and delicious, and the décor was captivating. I also walked one fine evening to Chez Albert, about a mile from the hotel , for a typical Basque seafood dinner, which was memorable. Thirdly the hotel itself, the lobby, common rooms. grand marble staircase, my hotel room, and the room of my friends, and the gorgeous grounds with sculptures, gardens, and the crashing ocean-front, were all stunning, grand in scale, polished, and from a bygone era. This made the experience very posh and relaxing. I did not visit the hotel's Guerlain Spa, but would love to do that, as I heard a very good report from a fellow guest. The adult pool and children's pool are also very attractively situated on a broad lawn overlooking to ocean. Fourthly, Biarritz is a destination not to be missed. There is the clean wide beach with many surfing shops in front of the hotel. Even in October, the water is not yet too cold to swim, or go surfing with a wetsuit. There is the wide walk with shops and cafes in front of the beach, alongside the hotel. Also there is a park with a carousel. I made the hike out to the Rocher de Virgen, and didn't have enough time to also see the aquarium and Maritime Museum. I enjoyed a hillside café with ocean views, toured an ancient church and also enjoyed some fun shopping. There are many cute local shops , upscale shops , beautiful Chocolaiters, and even Galleries Lafayette. There is so much to do in Biarritz, which is a charming hilly European coastal town with beautiful architecture and pretty streets. Upon leaving my room, the sweet housekeeper said "See you next year!" If I could, I would adore returning Hotel du Palais.
Brilliant room (deluxe room with Biarritz view) although next time we would upgrade to a partial sea/Biarritz view. Beautiful food, beautiful location. Probably the most relaxed I have ever been on holiday. Would stay here again anytime.
"Great Jr Suite Ocean View #218"
Asked for a Jr Suite with city view and upgraded to Jr Suite with ocean view. Room 218 is fabulous! Wonderful service upon check in and at the bar outside overlooking ocean. Beware of the small titmouse birds! They're quite adept at stealing your lunch! Tenacious little buggers!!!
