"Very convenient hotel near the main train station"
A few steps from the train station you find this comfortable hotel, spotless clean, pleasant rooms, and excellent breakfast. One reason to reduce one notch from my recommendation is the lack of a gym. I was told however that the hotel will be renovated soon and a gym will be added.
"Steeped in history and culture"
Great place to stay at the center of the city. Shopping centers and great restaurants close by. Staff are ever smiling and eager to offer help and advice to guests not familiar with Munich. Deferentially enabled staff are employed within the hotel and this indeed goes to show the maturity of the management and the respect towards human values. The in house restaurant is great as well if one is tired of venturing out after a busy work day. Mini bar charges are refreshingly reasonably priced.
"Super staff, super room"
I stayed at the Excelsior for 5 nights in late October and then extended my stay for 3 more nights after a short stay in Salzburg. I have stayed at the Excelsior a number of time before this stay and I returned again this time mainly because of 3 reasons. First, I have only stayed in the Alpine rooms which I just love and I think are great value for the money spent given the other hotel rates for a comparable luxury room in central Munich. Second, I love the location of the hotel being so close to the Munich's main train station (Hauptbahnhof) which makes it easy for my friends in Germany to come and visit me when I am staying there and its a perfect base to take trips by train to places like Salzburg which is just an hour and half away by train...and of course to catch a train to other nearby German towns and sites to see like Neuschwanstein Castle. The hotel is about 100 meters from the Munich Hauptbahnhof and there are rental car agencies at the train station if you prefer to explore Germany by car. Lastly, and most importantly, is the customer service that I have experienced in all my stays at the Excelsior. Every staff member that I have interacted with has been friendly, attentive and willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that my stay at the Excelsior is a pleasant experience. Kudos to Claudia, Victoria and all the staff at the reception with their 5 star customer services! The bellmen are super and they always greeted me with a nice greeting when returning to the hotel and the maids were always friendly and did a super job of cleaning my room. You make me feel like this is my home away from home when I am in Munich....I will be back again in the spring
"Not worth the money..."
Stayed for a night in that Hotel, chosen because of location. The Hotel is very old, and the rooms probably have not been refurbished for a while. The following comments to be considered: - room size rather small - phone coverage inside hotel: terrible, difficult to make calls bcs the building is old with thick walls.... - not suitable for business people who have a need to work: no working space, no desk there - bathroom: from the 70thies....no shower but bath tap with shower curtain (terrible feeling), seperate hot and cold water knob.... - noise insulation: does not exist, you hear your neighbours left and right, ....
"Comfortable and friendly "
I stayed at the Excelsior for a week in November, for business reasons. The hotel foyer is very quaint, decorated in Bavarian style. The room I stayed in was one of the Alpine rooms - I'm not sure how many room styles there are - and was spacious and comfortable and clean. The best description I can give is to picture a blend of ski lodge and Scandinavian minimalism. There was a couch and coffee table, a functional desk and chair, and a good large bed. The bathroom looked like it had been recently renovated and was very large and modern. One thing I really appreciated, especially on a business trip, was the ample wardrobe storage. The lighting was especially good, as was the wi-fi service. The hotel is very close to the central train station with multiple access points to the subway. There is also a very nice - and popular - restaurant and bar. The thing that really stood out for me though, was the friendliness of the staff. They are helpful, always smile and make eye contact, and make you feel genuinely welcome.
