I wanted to stay at this hotel for its proximity to the shopping area. The room is tiny, and you could hear every movement in the hallways. I think the floors of the hallways are hardwood and not carpet. Huge selling point though is the service, the staff is extremely courteous and make you feel welcome the minute you walk in and I love the German traditional cloths the staff wear. Will I stay again' Maybe if I'm away from the traffic of the hallways and in a larger room.
"Can't fail to love this hotel"
The Excelsior is not a chain hotel and all the better for it. There is a genuine wish from every staff member for you to enjoy your stay and they clearly love working for the hotel. Their pride in their jobs is evident in their actions and attitude. The renovated Alpine rooms are very comfortable and really well equipped. Breakfast is wonderful and very good value, staff are responsive and remember your preferences from day to day. Giesel's Vinotek serves great food but we stayed for a week and could only get a booking at the bar for one night as it is very popular with locals. As you would expect from a Vinotek the wine knowledge is impeccable, the food was generally great however my risotto was so salty I couldn't eat it. We received a free dessert as a consequence when I gave this feedback to the kitchen. One issue that surprised me was that despite the new renovation the doors aren't very sound proof so you can hear people walking down the corridors and talking at night. You have access to a small gym at a sister hotel and there is a new exercise facility planned at the Excelsior. The bar is also closed for renovation but they will serve drinks in the lobby. The location is also perfect and close to the main attractions of Munich and the train station. On balance, they really look after you here, it was my second stay and I will stay here again on my next trip to Munich. The warmth of the hospitality was the most notable part of our stay, we really enjoyed our visit.
"Great location, beautiful Bavarian decor, and a team of wonderful staff"
I've been to Munich 5 times, and I've just stumbled upon this lovely Hotel Excelsior. The hotel has a great location, with literally just a few steps from the Hauptbahnhof, and simply a 10-minute stroll to the Marienplatz. It has a lovely decor, but what makes them extra special is their staff, and their extra impressive services that exceeds even the standards set by large chain hotels. This is where you'll find true Bavarian hospitality, where the staff genuinely cares about you and does their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible, from the chocolate bars left daily on your pillow to a bottle of water that is always offered to you whenever you're heading out. I would like to thank the entire team of hotel staff, particularly Victoria from the front desk who will accommodate all your needs with a beautiful smile, Akiel the porter (I'm sorry if I misspelled his name, he's the gentleman with the awesome mustache), and Ferdinand from the night shift who is always eager to assist you. I've traveled to over 100 cities but the services of the other hotels paled in comparison. Once you've stayed here, you wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. My family and I are definitely coming back here again. --Sirada from Thailand
"Excellent service, location and premises"
Stayed from 26th Dec to 29th Dec 2016. We loved this wonderful hotel, perfectly clean, brilliant location so close to the train station and a short walk to the town centre. We also loved the atmosphere of the design of the hotel with the beautiful rooms and entry area. The staff were excellent, even showing us physically where the meeting point was for a tour we were on. They went out of their way to accommodate us. We would definitely stay there again.
"Failed in the main service "
very well situated hotel, great Bavarian style design, superb breakfast, friendly staff. It failed giving me the essential, a good sleep, hard floor in corridor makes you hear every suitcase and every step, and there was a lot of movement until very late, or better said very early. This is very bad both for the air noise transmission and the noise transmission via the structure. After the second night I gave up and moved away, even though I had to pay the three nights. More badly, the room I got was to a inner courtyard to the neighbour building that is undergoing heavy construction works starting from about 6am, OK, I was in a business trip and had to get up anyhow, but how can they seriously sell those rooms without even telling anything to their customers before, they should not use them hose rooms during the works just to make money. Another thing is that at this class of hotel it was very surprisingly that the room did not have even a small desk to work on, no facility to make a coffee or tea in the room. Dear hotel manager, change the corridor materials and improve the doors acoustic (I can get you great advise as a lead designer), add a small opportunity in the single rooms that people can sit and work on a laptop, buy some water boilers and get some cups, tea, coffee in the rooms, close down the rooms giving to the inner courtyard (I had Room 317) for at least the time until the heavy construction works are over. All the rest is just perfect, but Im not getting you more than one star as you did fail in the most important, that is giving me the chance of a good rest.
