"No fun allowed"
Dont bother staying here if you want to actually have fun & enjoy your holiday. This hotel is only appropriate for over 60s who want to sit under a parasol all day in silence!! Me, my husband and one year old daughter stayed for a week with 75 friends & family members for my sisters wedding in September. This was 'recommended' by the wedding planner as a family friendly hotel. First of all there is no childrens pool and if you dare want to play in the pool with your child ie teach them to swim, splash about with them In their rubber rings and baby toys then you will be repeatedly told off by the lifeguards. The guests sat directly around the pool moaned about a baby splashing them when jumping in the pool or being noisey. I was also told to be quiet as a guest had complained about me singing nursery rhymes to my baby girl whilst playing in the pool. I asked to speak to the manager as I thought it was pathetic & petty and in my opinion the lifeguard should have told the guests who complained not to sit around the pool if they were bothered about being splashed or hearing childrens laughter, she told me that the hotel promotes silence & tranquility so I should keep it down, which is the complete opposite of what a family friendly hotel is. I could understand if we were being rowdy & offensive but we were simply enjoying being in the pool on holiday with our baby!!! I also noticed there is no music playing or any form of sound at all in the hotel which is quite eery tbh! Second of all there are only 2 high chairs so if you go for breakfast when they are being used expect to be left sitting there until one becomes available. We were left sat at our table for a good 20 minutes without anyone even acknowledging us...we asked over & over for a highchair until one waiter explained they had non available. If they had of told us this before we were seated we would have went & sat round the pool to pass the time. Also if you have a pram or are wheelchair bound then forget it! Actually getting to the pool is impossible as the ramp is blocked by tables & chairs which no one will move to let you past. The waiters actually stood & watched me try & get my daughter who was asleep in her buggy down 4 steps from the hotel to the pool and not one of them offered to help. The bar by the pool has a ramp access but every time I tried to access it the doors were locked...again the waiters made no attempt to open them! I also noted the outside areas of the hotel are very hard to navigate around as there are sunloungers, tables & chairs in every available space & lots of steps...even the outside front paths have a row of bicycles on one side & bollards on the other meaning you have to walk in single file or on the road which if you have a pram or are in a wheelchair is not good! A few nights before my sister got married (thankfully the wedding was not in the hotel) her & her friends went out to a club in Puerto Banus....how dare they!! Two lots of guests were frog marched from their room by security & held by the manager where they were told they were being thrown out of the hotel & to wait there until their refund was processed. All because they arrived back at 5am which was an unacceptable time for the hotel. There were two rooms of girls next to each other with an elderly couple in between who had complained about the noise when the girls arrived back. Instead of the front desk ringing the girls & telling them to keep the noise down they simply marched them out with no notice or warning.... as in the manager Marias own words 'they should know the etiquette of the hotel & I doent believe in second chances' when myself & my mum explained they had never been given a first chance to keep the noise down, she shrugged & said it was her hotel & she doesnt need to explain herself to us, there are rules that the guests should comply with. We asked to see a copy of 'the rules' to which she refused & again said she doesnt need to show us them. Only after my mum begged & pleaded with her to let the girls stay as it would ruin my sisters wedding she very begrudgingly changed her mind. My mum explained there were a lot of us, all very giddy and excited for the wedding. The hotel had come recommended by the wedding planner (who in hindsight must be on a comission) for being suitable for all ages & families. Maria was very patronising & basically said she didnt need our business & that she woulnt tolerate the young ones coming into the hotel late or drinking & laughing around the pool of a day...however not once were the bar staff told not to serve them with alchol (which can I also add are extortinate prices btw) I can honestly say not once were they being roudy or offensive, they were simply sat around enjoying themselves, laughing & joking together as most people do whilst on holiday. Some hotel guests where obviously not happy about the tranqulity being affected but I think it was more the management/staff members that had the problem as they want the hotel to be more like a retreat for the elderly! When my sister decided on the hotel she even emailed them to explain there would be a very large number of us, all variations of ages & group sizes including couples, families, babies & children...in my opinion they should have advised against this and told us their hotel was not suitable but NO they were more than happy to take our money and make our holiday hell, were all made to feel like naughty school children! The hotel itself is lovely with good ammenities but make sure you are down for 7am to reserve your sun lounger. Also beware of the all inclusive option as my Auntie was hit with an £800 bill when she checked out! Overall I would say this is a lovely hotel if you are a miserable able bodied mute who doesnt want to have fun on holiday! On a side note I would just like to add; we are not a gang of rowdy brits abroad, but all well travelled professionals. Most of our group have stayed in much classier hotels than this all over the world so know how to behave and conduct ourselves.
We have been staying at El Fuerte for many years and have recently returned home after another lovely 11 days. The staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. It's position in Marbella is just perfect. Would definitely recommend it for couples.
"Yet another great stay at the El Fuerte."
My husband and I have stayed at the El Fuerte several times and always enjoy our time here. Hotel is spotlessly clean and management and staff are friendly and helpful. We've seen many additions made especially in the last couple of years which have only enhanced our stay and love the new pool terrace. If I was to make one small hoot I don't like the paper napkins now used at breakfast. Thank you Maria and your team for yet another enjoyable stay and we will be back next year.
"Not a happy holiday"
I recently stayed at this hotel with my two children aged 11 and 16 years. We only stayed for 3 nights as we only went out to Spain for my nieces wedding. This hotel was recommended by the wedding planner and we were part of a group of 75 staying at the hotel fuerte Marbella ! The actual hotel was beautiful and spotlessly clean however the waiter service and bar service was terrible You had to wait almost 30 mins to get a glass of coke !! The hotel is advertised as child friendly this is not the case , within our party we had 3 babies with us all under the age of 24 months. We were sitting around the pool singing to the babies very softly and we were complained about. The children are not allowed to play with anything in the pool and there is no child pool solely for children on the complex. Children on their holidays like to play in a pool they are not Olympic swimmers !!! There all inclusive is falsely advertised too. !! This hotel should not be advertised as family friendly this hotel is definitely for the over 50s. It was full of oaps.. Disgruntled and dissatisfied ,,,
"Super location, lovely hotel"
Perfectly located in Marbella with direct access to the beach and across the road from the old town. Location can not be beaten really. Two swimming pools and plenty of sun loungers available. Hotel room was pleasant, clean and modern. Great selection of free toiletries like toothbrush, shaving kit etc. Very practical and handy for people on a short break. Food was very good. My only criticism is the waiter service can be very slow, e.g. Waiting 20 mins at breakfast for a refill of tea, getting my lunch but not the drink I ordered with it (had to ask 3 times). Despite this I would definitely go back. Super hotel otherwise and Marbella has some great shopping and restaurants. La Canada shopping centre is only €8 by taxi from hotel and El Corte Ingles Department Store is €13 by taxi if you want a broader choice. Lovely promenade between the hotel (direct access via back gate) and beach. Great for a morning run or stroll after dinner. Highly recommended.
