"Good in parts"
Pleasant staff, with a little English. Room lovely size but so noisy. Spent one night on sofa because of next doors tv. Good bar. Adequate breakfast. Good area for sightseeing. Found there to be a shortage of restaurants in the immediate area except for fast food.
A nice and average hotel, located quite good in Santiago. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was also just renovated. The only point for improvement in our view would be the breakfast- the bread and the pastries could be fresher.
"A welcome awaits "
The staff at Hotel Fundador, especially those at reception are exceptionally welcoming. There's a great bar with good ambience and excellent snacks. The restaurant also serves good food. On the other hand the breakfast was poor, and many items ran out as the tour guests descended down in large groups.
I usually do not write reviews and as a matter of fact, I had to open a TripAdvisor account just because I wanted to do my due diligence and warn fellow travelers about this dump. My husband and I were forced to stay here for 2 nights as we traveled with a group tour. I want to start by saying that we are not hard to please. As long as we have a clean and functioning room, we are happy. The Hotel Fundador failed us in both ways. The following things were broken or not working in our room: - non functioning A/C (it was the middle of summer and 30 degrees celcius outside) - non functioning safe in our room (we hid our passports and valueables in the curtains as there was nowhere safe to elave them while we were out) - bathroom sink did not drain - shower did not drain (water was still there in the morning) - we can (clearly) hear our neighbors quiet conversations as well as all traffic and street noise - our room was dirty and dusty with a lovely view of garbage dumpsters and rats. we used our airplane pillows so that we didn't have to put our heads on the dirty pillows provided in the dump. - staff either does not understand a word of english or they are pretend not to. They are rude and indifferent. We traveled for almost a month through South America and we absolutely loved Santiago otherwise. The people (aside from in this hotel) are among the nicest we encountered on our whole trip and the city of Santiago is amazing with a lot to see and many beautiful neighborhoods. I guess the bottom line here is to not sell yourself short. Spend a few extra bucks and stay in a proper hotel so that you can enjoy your time in this fascinating city.
The hotel is dated. Down a side street which I would not describe as nice. Staff as everywhere in Chile were friendly. Room was likewise dated although very large. Breakfast fair. Frankly the Plaza San Francisco where we also stayed on our trip is far nicer and in the same area although on the main boulevard.
