"Location location location"
Our Guide met us at Hiroshima Station as we got off the Shinkansen from Osaka. We walked off the platform and went up an escalator, passed many shops and restaurants in the station complex and seemingly under the same roof came into a large upmarket hotel foyer where our guide excused herself to go over to reception. We presumed she was going to pick something up and pondered what it would cost to stay in a place like this. We were very pleasantly surprised to find this was our hotel. The room was clean with all the usual comforts and no we could not hear the trains. There was free wifi. When our guide met us the next morning to go to the Peace Park area we found that the buses and trains went from an area within 100 metres of the front exit of the hotel. We had the choice of traditional or modern breakfast in separate restaurants included in our tariff and spent one morning in each. Both were excellent.
"Perfect for tourists"
Booked direct on their website and our room and breakfast package was very reasonably priced. This hotel is directly connected to Hiroshima station and pretty easy to find. There was construction work in progress so these directions may change - if arriving on Shinkansen, once you exit the gates look for the information desk. There is a corridor on the other side of the desk which leads directly to the hotel entry, you will see the signage. Service was five star - every staff member we encountered was friendly and very helpful, most spoke some English. Checkin was a breeze and we were in our 6th floor room within 10 minutes of stepping off the train. Arriving on a Sunday afternoon probably helped, I can imagine both station and hotel would be extremely busy on a week day. Foyer area is gorgeous and our twin room was lovely - very modern, clean, comfortable and quiet - we slept well. The breakfast buffet was great and catered to all tastes - it included an egg station. Even at 06:45 there was a large tour group at the restaurant queuing for the buffet so keep this in mind if you have limited time for breakfast, as the line didn't move fast. Access to the Meipuru loop buses (free for JR pass holders and the easiest way to see the sights at your own pace) is right outside the front door, as is the shopping centre and restaurant complex. Loved this hotel, highly recommended as a base for a trip to Hiroshima.
"Small but comfortable "
Our visit was for three days two nights. Hotel Granvia is VERY easy to get to as it's literally next to the train station. The rooms are small but the bed was comfortable for the two of us. There's a grocery store across the street, it's an express store so has prepared foods and plenty of supplies that you may or may not need. Also because it's next to the station there is plenty of restaurants to eat in and around the station. There is also an restaurant in the hotel, a bit pricey but can be worth it for the convenience. Overall the service was great and the room was comfortable enough for our short stay.
"Very Grand Granvia!"
Found the Granvia to be very convenient as located just by the train station. Easy to use the local transport, i.e. the trams to get in to town, to see the bombed dome, art galleries and gardens. We were greeted by a very sweet girl, who took our very heavy cases to our room. The hotel lobby area looks very grand. Its a really nice hotel, and found it very good value for money. Our rooms was small but perfectly formed for our two night stay, and sleep wear provided!
Great location in railway station. Welcoming and helpful staff. Good sized room. Nice night view from bar, drinks reasonably priced. Long walk to Shukkeien Gardens but worth it. Used sightseeing bus the Loop using our JR passes. Stop opposite Toshogu Shrine for a steep walk up to a view. If you can’t make the steps – go into the You Me supermarket for a food refuel! GF: After spending 3 ½ weeks in Japan there are very few if any gluten free foods available. You must bring some of your own foods otherwise finding food to safely eat is very very difficult, GF awareness is just not part of the café food culture so take: cereal, rice cakes, muesli bars, biscuits etc. Plenty of rice, salads in convenience stores, eggs, cooked chicken, fish.
