"Poor sleep quality"
I booked an upgraded room, for my wife's birthday. The Hotel was what I expected save and except the bed. The mattress was an old sway back mattress. When I complained they sent house keeping to investigate, and their suggestion was to add additional padding. I admit it did help however it still did not give the sleep quality that I expect. This hotel does not offer in room self serve coffee but will deliver to your room for 6 euros. They do not offer self serve ice machines but will deliver ice to your room for 8 euros. I believe that if a hotel wants to charge these kind of prices they are obligate to give a reasonable nights sleep. This is a golf destination located in an upscale residential neighborhood (nothing else within walking distance). Gym is minimal, breakfast was basic (but that is what I am looking for) and offers some spa services (my wife wanted a pedicure but could not as the nail technician was on holidays). Lunch was very good
"Good hotel for golfers "
This hotel offer great golf courses for the golfers however if you are visiting without a car it's not near anything walking distance so keep It in mind . Great room good service at the cafe for breakfast and over all good value .
"Elegant hotel but not great golf management !!"
We booked thinking we had the facility of two golf courses on site which was exactly what we wanted. No need to travel miles etc. We were given tee times on a course which we had never heard of, knew nothing about it, didn't want to play and had no idea where it was in relation to the hotel. Nothing we said could change what we were given. Do we cancel in disgust or do we take a chance ' Difficult decision ! We took a chance. The Hotel is obviously in turmoil with the golf bookings as we discovered on our first morning. We did eventually manage to change our bookings to just play Guadalmina North and South which was what we requested in the first place. There is a new golf director and a new golf desk in the foyer of the hotel. They don't really have much of an idea and both are pretty conspicuous by their absence if you need them !! There are NO couresty transfers. We were offered "transfers" at exhorbitant prices by Golfbreaks to our start tees. NOT NECESSARY. There is a pro shop right at the hotel Guadalmina run by a very efficient lady who informed us that we did not need transfers to the first tees on Guadalmina north or south, which are both at the club house on Guadalmina North, about a 15 minute buggy drive away, we just needed to take a buggy and were able to take ourselves there !! We were never pushed and never held up, the courses are extremely well cared for, the staff on both course incredibly helpful. The 10th green and 11th tee are right outside the pro shop at the Guadalmina hotel so a round can start and finish there easily if you are staying in the hotel and it does work. The pro shop closes at about 1.30pm and from that point on we saw no golfers starting or finishing there. So badly managed but very comfortable golf nevertheless !!! Stunning views over the ocean fabulous hotel staff. Lunch and Dinner menus very boring if you are there more than a week as there is very little variety and due to the isolated position of the hotel, albeit in a very nice residential area, there is no chance to sample local cuisine unless you are prepared to hire a car or take taxis. There are no shops but there is one very nice restaurant within walking distance but that is it. The Hotel itself is very elegant, and we did have a good week but they do need to sort out their golf management.
"Great but no golf!!!!"
Billed as a golf resort and spa. Really enjoyed our week long stay, top class hotel with great facilities and a very friendly amenable staff. My only gripe would be that the place is advertised as a golf & spa resort but there is no golf at the hotel. I would generally expect with a hotel of this standard that the golf is at least part of the complex, that there would be practice facilities even a modest chipping or putting close to the hotel, but alas no. (There is an ancient synthetic green, with holes closed over & unusable) You are advised as soon as you arrive that although some of the south course is right beside the hotel, the golf is a separate business 1.5km away from the hotel on the far side of the N340 main road. To call this hotel a Golf hotel is an unfair representation of what the place offers. By this standard any hotel that is located within a mile or two of a golf course can call itself a golf resort. Golfers don't be fooled. Finally, I would like to reiterate we really enjoyed the rest of the facilities and found them of top quality. But a golf resort, you've got to be kidding.
"Really needs to 'clean up' its act!"
This was the fourth visit to Guadalmina and whilst we have never thought of the hotel as exceptional it has always been considered a good venue for both beach and golf and that has probably, together with the usual sunshine, masked over the cracks. to begin our room was running with damp when we walked in, at first this was dismissed by staff as 'time of year' but it clearly wasn't and they moved us to an upgraded poolside room. Unfortunately this was much smaller than previous rooms at this hotel and very sparsely decorated. As it was raining we began with a visit to the spa which is dated at best. It also had a steam room that was full of loose gravel from the from the many areas where tiles had worked loose, not nice at all but worse was to come. When we went to the locker room the stench of human waste was repulsive, it appeared to be coming up through the various sinks and drains. We have encountered this rotten smell at the hotel on previous occasions but never discovered what must be very close to the source. As the weekend progressed the same stench was also prevalent in the public toilets off the hotel bar. the walkways outside the guest rooms had tables which had been stacked with detritus removed by the cleaners from rooms each day which never seemed to progress beyond the walkways, perhaps it is a once a week activity but whatever the reason it is not pleasant and shouldn't be seen. Finally breakfast, simply awful with almost raw scrambled eggs, cold fried eggs, cold 3rd rate baked beans and half cooked bacon. The cold selection was simply poor quality cooked meats which appeared to be mostly water. Plates were slow to be recovered between courses and we generally ended up having to eat around them or move them ourselves to adjacent empty tables. It's a shame because the location is terrific, the hotel simply isn't. Though it shouldn't be considered a review of the hotel it is also worth mentioning that every time we have booked this venue through Golfbreaks.com we have been significantly been messed around prior to departure with tee time changes and cancellations leaving us to negotiate and even argue suitable alternatives. I'm afraid that until I read of drastic improvements to this hotel we won't be going back.
