"want to go back"
first time in Marbella and wont be my last.the hotel is very big in a quite location right on I think a private beach with stunning views of the sea and pool at the front and beautiful mountain and garden views to the side. we had a room in the main building which was much better and brighter than first room shown to us away from the hotel.we had booked through Thompson travel a superior double with a double sofa bed in it but the first room shown was a basic double only which was promptly changed as I had a mobility scooter that I couldn't take into this room as there where stairs no lift. the bathroom was the nicest it was huge with a bidet bath shower all finished in marble. the paella and sardines at the beach restaurant was first class. the highlight of the holiday for me was the amazing salt water pool and the comfort of the balli beds which were by the way 88 euros for the day with a bottle of either champagne and fruit or 4 soft drinks and fruit sheer comfort with stunning sea views sun loungers where free and plenty of them just not for me with a back problem. breakfast was busy with lots of choice pastries fruit omelettes drinks also free champagne, didnt like the taste of sausage and bacon but lots of other choices.
"Luxurious but you pay for it ! "
We won a competition to stay here. A 4 night stay in Marbella with a meet and greet at Elliot Wrights eaterie : Olivias. On the surface this hotel is 6 star , the friday we arrived the hotel was at full capacity. Staff on the whole were cordial & polite. But we tipped throughout. From the bar staff to the bell boy- all do a great job. THE HOTEL ROOM : Beautiful room with fabulous air con. Cooled the room within minutes. Twin beds wider then the average size. Oodles of wardrobe space with ample coat hangers. Good quality electronic safe inside the wardrobe which was free to use. TV was on wall above bed but only had 1 english channel which was BBC news and 1 english radio channel . Rather dissapointing as the clientelle of the hotel appeared to be in the main, brits ( and english is the common language) so my advice would be to upgrade the channels. Some may say you dont go on holiday to watch TV but trust me - there is NO other entertainment and you are marooned here if you have no car! We had patio doors out onto a small verrandha on the ground floor in front of a lovely little water feature. Great for mum who was a smoker. Mini bar fully stocked with over inflated prices. 3.5 € for a small bag of crisps. 4€ for a small bottle of water. 9€ for a mini vodka! We had a shower and a bath, the complementary toiletries were good too. FOOD We were full board so food prices didnt apply to us . Make sure you ask for the full pension menu though, as we were charged for the lunch menu as the language barrier got the better of us. After haggling with the reception staff we got it taken off our bill €25 for 5 langoustines ! The full pension menu is far smaller with only 2 choices per course. I had spaghetti bolognase, it was good. Then hake , it came with 1 boiled potato- just one. Now we had our holiday for free but had we paid £2600 for 10 nights b&b then had to pay for our meals on top and only got 1 potato......... you know ' ! Drinks are extortionate. 4€ for a small water . 10€ for a vodka and coke. Now depending who served you ....one waitress bought the bottle to you and said " tell me when to stop" we didnt tell her to stop ;-) Breakfast and dinner were buffet style. The scrambled eggs were watery, didnt see anyone eat them. The bacon was like rubber- standard for spain. Had a lovely omelette cooked fresh for me. Bread was good toasted. Lots of condiment choice. On sunday there was a special buffet on that cost 45€ or 15€ extra if you were on full board basis. A bit cheeky really but it was worth it . Beautiful fillet steak cooked to order, as much as you wanted. Fresh seafood, oysters mussels langoustines crayfish - a stunning array- see photos. The best carrot cake i have had in years, credit where its due. FACILITIES The spa we didnt utilise as you had to pay. The massage started at €80 for half hour, far too expensive imo. The golf course looked tiny but was very full with stag parties and well maintained. The pool is sea water , its big and wasnt overcrowded. Lots of sun loungers which you get a nice big velour towel for with your towel card. Sunloungers on the beach, we couldnt understand why it wasnt busy. You have to pay extra to sit on the beach ! €6 per lounger. A bloody cheek at this 6 star hotel! It isnt obvious either- we only found out off another guest. Also the four poster double loungers are costly too! €88 an hour but you get a bottle of champagne& a fruit platter ( fruit thats free at breakfast , lol ) I just think its underhand these extra costs when you are paying premium prices to stay here. My advice to you is this. Go to reception and order a taxi to the sol supermarket €7. Its a 25 minute walk but you will have lots of bags on your return! Purchase water for €0.21 ! Coke €0.50 ! San miguel cans for €0.35 ! Snacks etc. Then empty the mini bar ( until you leave) cool it all and have a more affordable stay. Around the corner to the supermarket, behind it is la cervasa ( or something) it is a tobbaconists. They are about half the UK price €41 for 200 mayfair €46 200 L&B. I dont smoke but my family do. Visit Olivias , it isnt in Marbella but neither is this hotel! Hotel is about a €10 taxi ride to Puerto Banus and a €60 taxi ride to La Cala : Olivias. Again am unsure about food cost but it is more reasonable than this hotel! Food and entertainment is top notch and if Curtis the waiter is there , you will be spoilt ! Oh the hotel is an hour from the airport too. So , in short: luxurious hotel but staff dont bend over backwards for you, but they dont ignore you either. Prices are expensive but this is the norm for the area. Entertainment is zero- they dont provide it. Music poolside is muted also. Location of hotel is remote, it is in a residential area, nothing for tourists. I won't return . I had a fabulous time as we were fortunate competition winners, Benidorm is my next choice of location.
We are currently staying at this hotel. It's like traveling in a time machine twenty years back... Hotel is nice, food is good and service is correct, but for 1990 standards. As a 2016 experience, it is not at all worth the money you par for it. Service is basic (they won't go the extra mille to offer you added value... but they will charge as a five star). Food is not up to the task, rooms are old with "demodée" decoration and quality fails, etc. Overall, a never again experience.
"Don't let the word 'Golf' put you off...."
We were not there for the golf, and if my husband hadn't already stayed there on a business trip earlier in the season we certainly wouldn't have even considered it an option with 'golf' in the title. Lovely breakfast which one could drag out for quite sometime looking over the sea. Or if you did like golf, one could gaze over the golf course. Our ground floor room was spacious and was quoted as 'garden view'. A very short walk from our own outside seating area to the sea and poolside. I had a memorable massage in the hotel spa with Fernadez the day we left. We didn't use the inside spa pool as the sea was far too inviting. I understand it was an extra cost to use the spa inside pool. Not a fee I would expected, or to pay extra for swanky sun lounges outside but we weren't bothered about those either. Maybe it's something that is the norm in Spain, it's certainly not something I've come across in a UK luxury spa before. The few other meals we had there were superb although we preferred eating at the shack a short distance across the sands called 'Sol Beach'. It seems like there were lots of locals there. Easy parking by the hotel if you want to hire a car. We took a trip to Rhonda and the old part of Marbella. Both trips ideal if you like your history and architecture. The only thing that let the hotel down (apart from the word 'golf'), was the cocktails. If this review is read by the hotel management, I would recommend improvement in this area. Apart from that all the staff were very helpful and friendly at all times.
"Beautiful Hotel but not centrally located"
The hotel is quite lovely and has a great pool, as well as a beach and spa. However, it is located within a residential neighborhood and requires a car to get to the main area of Marbella. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. My only complaint is that we were not informed that the breakfast buffet (which was quite substantial) was included in our stay. We only found out at check-out when it was listed on the bill. We did take part on our last day before leaving and I was so disappointed we didn't get to partake of it before. It was fantastic!
