"Good service, average rooms"
The ambiance and interiors of this small hotel are quirky, bohemic and dark. They focus on Jazz music, and if you are lucky they might have a nice small jazz concert in the bar during the visit. The reception staff and bartenders are friendly, service minded and personal. Average breakfast. The location is off from the city center, but if you like walking it is possible to explore Stockholm by foot from Hotel Hellsten. I think we must have been unlucky with our room (1309). It was averagely bohemian decorated - but worn down: some spolights did not function, one curatin lining was torn and it did not hang properly, one window lock was broken. The bathroom drain was clogged to a full stop on the night when we arrived, impossible for us to use the bathroom with flooded floor that night. The reception staff themselves worked on it that night and the day after cleaning staff cleaned it. The following days the room smelled very badly från the bathroom drain, and it was therefor no pleasure to spend time in the bath or in the hotel room. This problem was not followed up after the first night and we where not offered to change room. We where though offered a nice excuse and a small discount on the bar tab when checking out.
"Standard room not 4* quality"
We booked following the pictures, but they only show Superior rooms. Room 2507: a Standard room: tiny (about 50 cm around the bed), no wardrobe or place to put laguage suitcases, Walls dirty, need painting, no nice acessoire like one picture on a Wall! Bathroom tiny- only 1 x 1,5m. Old furniture... But entryhall, lounge and free sauna are nice.
"Love hotell Hellsten"
Nice staf and wonderful rooms with character. Very good cleaning, breakfast was ok, not the best I've hade but not at all bad. Just a little bit small. The sauna was also very nice. The hotel was not to far from the city and a lot of nice restaurants in the area
"Location and good service "
We stayed for 2 nights at hellsten. We booked for their junior suite. Rating then as follows: Check in: 5/5, smooth and no frills. Took us 2 mins. Room: 4/5, right size and very comfortable bed. Would be good to have a mini bar but wouldn't complain about not having one. Bathroom: 4/5 clean, new. Would be good to have toiletries apart from shampoo. Location: 5/5, everything is at walking distance from the arlanda airport express / Central Station to convenience stores and restaurants. I could give this hotel a 6. Hellsten, for its rate is really good. It's charming + warm hospitality (kudos to the front desk ladies) makes it one of the good ones to stay at when visiting Stockholm. Highly recommended
"Fabulous....in the end!"
We came here for an anniversary 4 day break. Getting off the aeroplane we were hit by the freezing -3 snowy weather! On entering the Hotel, we were then hit by the swampy heat, it was bliss!! The Hotel is so central, right by the metro and surrounded by shops and bars and restaurants. We were given one of their best rooms and it was beautiful and cosy with a balcony. The Hotel is really stunning and unique. However, on our first day there, the bathroom flooded from the shower. The floor was like a paddling pool. We contemplated complaining but we loved our room so much and didn't want to move! My partner investigated and found the problem: blocked drain under the bath which he unclogged (revolting job!) and voila! no more flooding shower problems! We told reception and they apologised profusely and gave us more towels as we had used them to mop up the flood. Then on our final night there, the heating in our room packed in. It was -7 outside so really cold in our room too. We told reception and after trying to fix it but unsuccessfully, they offered to move us but it was our last night in our lovely room so we decided to stay put and they provided us with a heater which was very effective and lots of blankets and spare pillows. Breakfast was wonderful. The bar was wonderful especially the barman who was great fun, cheeky and friendly. We had reindeer for dinner in the bar with some red wine and it was delicious!! The staff here are absolutely lovely and friendly and accommodating. However, sadly one of the front desk staff directed us to a christmas market about 45mins walk away (which was a fabulous walk in the snow by the harbour) but we ended up in the middle of nowhere and into a shop we went to ask about the christmas markets and the shop staff told us christmas markets were only on at the weekend. It was a Monday and our last day in sweden. We were very disappointed with the member of staff at the Hotel for not pointing this out to us both on our arrival as we mentioned the christmas markets and on the day when we asked for directions to the market. But we had a lovely walk about anyway and saw some beautiful architecture. I would definitely recommend this Hotel but check your facts before you ask the Front Desk for advice!!!
