Excelente servicio y atencion del personal. Te hacen sentir muy comodo.Comment of M. Maria Jose , Spain the 2016-12-05
Very good value, but would expect a 5-star hotel to have a decent selection of international newspapers available (in several languages) and a broader range of TV channels.Comment of W. Jonathan, United Kingdom the 2015-03-26
"A truly excellent hotel with exceptional staff!"
First, the hotel is gorgeous. The rooms are a good size (relative to other hotels in Europe), very clean and the washroom had a terrific shower! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff was amazing. After a booking mix up that was our travel agent's fault, the hotel accommodated us fed us (at no cost) while it got sorted out. We casually mentioned we were celebrating a milestone and they sent up Champagne to our room (also at not cost!) Usually European hotel breakfasts are pretty bland, but not here. The food was actually quite good, so no need to leave for a decent breakfast. The concierge was very helpful. The front desk was... incredible. Very warm and hospitable... nothing like I've ever encountered on many European trips. I can't wait to return.
"Wonderful, interesting hotel."
Just spent 3 nights here on a city break. The exterior of the hotel gives no clue to the wonderful, over the top Baroque interiors that await. The breakfast room alone is like the ballroom of a stately home. The welcome at reception could not have been better. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, handing out maps, directions and suggestions for local walks. (and of course a glass of port!). I have to say that our room at the front of the hotel, although very clean and comfortable, was not spacious, as some of the pieces of furniture were quite large. ( If the TV was wall mounted there could be one less table for example). Breakfast was good, with a huge choice of hot and cold items. We had a couple of snack lunches in their inner courtyard, which were also very good. We ate in the hotel's restaurant Book, which is just around the corner. Everything here was very good and the staff were really pleasant and helpful. A nice touch was to pair each dessert with a compatible port - wonderful! Location wise, it's about a twenty minute walk downhill to the riverside. We made good use of the Hop On Hop Off buses to visit the other side of the river, and to get back uphill at the end of the day. There's a stop opposite the hotel. We really enjoyed our visit to Porto and would certainly recommend this hotel.
"Like staying in a stately home and with impeccable service !!"
We stayed for 8 days at the hotel. The Reception staff are wonderful. Warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Proud of their hotel and of Oporto. The hotel is like a stately home in terms of its style and furnishings. A mixture of baroque and 1930s . All works rather well. Breakfast is in a grand room with plastered ceilings, chandeliers etc. Breakfasts were fantastic. The best if any hotel we have stayed in. Full English and or continental meats/ cheeses with delicious coffee, croissants and pastries etc. The home made yoghurt is to die for. Bedrooms are very comfortable with firm queen size beds. Never slept in such a wide bed before ! The staff speak excellent English but appreciate one having a go in potuguese and help out ! Whether it was management, waiting staff, chambermaids or Reception - all were friendly and helpful. The hotel is very central - just off the main square and c10 minutes from the station/ cathedral.About 20 minute walk from the waterfront with boat trips and the old tram service. There is no car park to the hotel . But they valet park one's car nearby costing 8 euros a day. A couple of caveats - lighting is a bit sombre in the bedrooms. Also noise from adjoining rooms can come through - one's bed head is next to one's neighbours bathroom. It varies depending on how considerate those next door are . Would we return ' YES to Oporto and to this hotel. Both the city and hotel are top rate.
"Great location in Porto"
Booked this hotel for a three night trip to Porto. From the very efficient, friendly welcome to the amazing beds and wonderful breakfast we were very pleased with our choice. Its a great location but those hills and steps can be hard work !! It is quite dark inside and our bathroom in a standard room was a bit small. But all was spotless from the clean linen every day to the gorgeous fluffy towels.
The most outstanding aspect of this hotel is the staff who strike a perfect balance between being professional and being friendly. The bed was very comfortable, the location is good although not spectacular. Porto is a great place to go for a long weekend - full of history, shabby charm and it is good value and relaxed, with some great surprises. I can't get enough vinho verde, the seafood is delicious and inexpensive. The location on the river Douro is charming, and you can enjoy walking around all day long, dropping in on the stunning churches, local restaurants and bars.
