"No hot water... wrong no water"
On arrival we were told there was no hot water and we were checked in and told they would call us. Turns out there was no water whatsoever. An hour later there was a knock on my door and a colleague told me we were being moved hotel. Five of our group, including myself, and been missed. Back to the hotel in the morning. Still no water. Although they cannot help the lack of water, communication had terrible. It's clear that they had know about the problem for a while so perhaps they should have been more proactive.
"Lovely Central Hotel"
Hotel is very centrally located and only a couple of minutes from the Bullring shopping centre. It's very modern with additional security on each floor. Room was very clean with good lighting and a comfy bed. The only downside is possibly the parking - we were lucky to get parked as we arrived early but the car park was full by checking time at 3pm. We would stay again.
"No hot water "refund or stay and accept it""
The title of this review literally were the words said to me 15 minutes before we arrived in Birmingham after a two hour drive. I received a phone call and told the hotel has no hot water so they can either refund the price of the room or we can stay and accept the fact that there's no hot water. In a nutshell, if we were told this in the morning (which the hotel have said they knew in the morning but was hoping for the best) opposed to when we were about to check in we could have saved some money and stayed at home but when we were practically on their door step what did they expect' We had planned this trip away as a nice pre-Christmas break and we chose to return to La Tour for a reason. We asked the reception staff what they would offer their customers that were choosing (or had to) stay, for example, we were definitely not prepared to have to get back in the car and drive home for another two hours! We were told there was nothing they could do as that deciding to stay means we accept there is no hot water... after my partner continued to discuss back and forth with the reception staff that this was simply not good enough, they threw in complimentary breakfast for both of us and free parking - now although this sounds lovely, we have had friends stay here where this was given to them upon arrival as a kind gesture - or something. Regardless, we accepted, thanked the staff and went to our room... The restaurant - we had previously bought a 'black Friday' voucher for the Marco Pierre White Chophouse situated in Hotel La Tour - the voucher cost £50 and there was an additional £25 added which was the deal for purchase ( well, I hadn't noticed we couldn't redeem this voucher until 2017! Hotel La Tour reservations team told me previously that they've had a lot of people book these vouchers and not realising the same thing) we kindly asked the restaurant manager if we could redeem it the night we were staying as our trip was really off to a bad start, we felt we had no choice but to stay regardless of the water situation (we had planned to come away and enjoy Birmingham & it was really just stressful!!) the restaurant manager told she would ask and let us know - shortly after, she approached us at the bar and said there's nothing she can do and we can't redeem the voucher early even under our circumstances. We asked "why" to which she replied "well you wouldn't get a voucher for Tesco that you can't use till 2017 but tell them you want to use it early, they wouldn't let you would they'!" Well, thanks for that! How silly of me to even ask! Next time I'm told my hotel booking of £109 for room only has no hot water when I'm practically at their door step, I'll just think to myself "I wonder what Tesco would do" - as much as terms and conditions are what they are, there is no need for rudeness! Eventually, after my partner being persistent with the reception manager about this voucher ( the way we were spoken to previously and made to feel like such an inconvenience made us really unhappy and very unlikely to re-book ) we received a call from the general manager to whom we explained the situation about the hot water (how late we were told about it), what the hotel staff offered and if in these circumstances could we use our voucher ( which can I stress was already paid for so therefore we weren't asking for anything free, just to use what we had paid for - early) His reply was a simple 'yes, under these circumstances it will be fine and will tell the staff for you' - wow, this was the first time from 3pm - 6.30pm after we spoke to the general manager that we felt like we were listened to and understood, not rushed like another 'number' customer service at the hotel this visit was practically non existent, a real shame! I could talk about the chophouse - I'm not going to go into great detail however, all I can say is the hotel plaster Marco Pierre White's face all over the place, there's photos of him everywhere you turn, it makes you think "that's somewhere we HAVE to eat, somewhere to enjoy a great meal" - it's not. Please, don't be fooled by the hype, don't waste your money where it would be much better spent on an independent business who take care and pride in the food they serve. Here's an example, we ate at the chophouse only last night, I ordered the Camembert to start, it came out beautifully presented with two slices of toasted bread (similar to ciabatta) one of my slices was burnt! And do you think I said anything ( of course not! After everything already during this stay I didn't dare, we already felt like the worlds most difficult customers :( ) my point is, you're paying so much for a wonderful meal which is advertised like crazy and priced highly, you would not expect burnt toast and undercooked chunky chips! The room - clean, yes however the bed, crikey, the pavement would be more comfortable! The temperature is an nightmare to adjust and you just can't breathe in this place! Even on our first stay we had the same issues with the room yet everything else was so good the first time we didn't even let it bother us, but this time, it's just so disappointing. Let me tell you, I love my sleep! I work long hours and I have a day off today but I've been awake every hour and I'm just looking forward to my partner waking up so we can get ready and just go home! I usually always ask for a late check out as I know I'll be sleeping in, this time, I honestly can't wait to get back to my own home and get back to work! All together over £200 later and it's been a dreadful trip. I do not dare to comment any further to the staff. We will not be returning ( which I'm sure will bring some relief to La Tour) I am also a blogger of customer service where people take my reviews seriously and use them to help their decisions of which amazing place to stay next: unfortunately, Hotel La Tour won't be a recommendation of mine.
"Out of this world!"
We stayed at this hotel for two nights, the latter to see the Rod Stewart concert. The hotel cannot be faulted in any way. Our room really was brilliant and all the staff unbelievable. The food was out of this world. Nothing was too much trouble. I am sure the staff were not trained to be like this, they really did love their jobs! Thank you! What a great time whilst there.
"Hotel LaTour Suite - fabulous room"
First time we stayed at this hotel and the reception check in was very good. The suite we stayed in was absolutely gorgeous and very big. The only issue we had was there was no running water for a few hours and then when it did return we had no hot water - although it returned in the hand basin it never returned in the shower which was disappointing but the hotel did as much as they could and it was not their fault. The bed was very comfortable and the facilities were extremely good.
