"Must avoid F&B outlets "
You must avoid this property if you like to feel welcome by the staff members, we have stayed two days and we felt to be more an obstacle to the staff rather than guests, they lack interest towards guests and attention, we never felt looked after. -All my points are based on the F&B outlets- Worth mention we were celebrating our twelve years anniversary. Both days at breakfast were awful, they fell down in so many aspects that will be impossible for me to recommend this property, needless even thinking on returning. Such same that a beautiful venue can be ruined and spoiled easily by the staff. Clear example of poor management and unexisting staff training. We came across the below... 1-. Glumly staff. Bar/Restaurant 2-. Staff focused on turning the restaurant to lunch layout rather than looking after guests. -During breakfast- 3-. When you're paying £15.00 a head for breakfast the expectations are rather high than mediocre. Poor pastry selection, hard/dry pancakes and waffles, full english breakfast not of its best... 4-. They must address an issue in regards of fruit flies around the buffet as can be very annoying. 5-. I had to stood up to replace an empty pepper grinder so I did with a stained knife, impossible to get hold of anyone's attention. On our second day upon placing our rrinks order we were advised that capuccino coffees were of extra cost while noone advised on the first day. 6-. We raised the concerns upon departure but no action had been taken so far. 7-. Buffet looked tired both days at 0900/0930 AM! Overall very disappointed experience.
"Glittery and shiny but stinks on closer inspection"
I expect 3 things from a hotel, a nice bed, hot shower and good breakfast. This hotel delivered in 1 out of those 3 needs. 1. Bed is nice, rooms are new and shiny with touch screen this and that, couldn't get the safe to work (looked like it had been tampered with and is different to the normal hotel safe but no biggie) 2. Woke up to no hot water, called downstairs, yes sir it's been reported by a number of rooms we are working on it... So I accept that these things happen and hand up. Potter around the room a bit getting my things in order, 15mins later after trying the water a few more times I call back down, can you tell me when it will be fixed' Are we expecting it to be working again shortly' (It's now 8:30am and I have to cancel my 9am meeting) sorry sir I can't say, I don't know.... Ok can you send some breakfast up to my room while I wait' 3. Breakfast, after getting transferred to the restaurant I ask for breakfast to be sent up, the lady asks tells me it will be 45mins, I tell her I have no hot water and now I have to wait u til 9:15 for breakfast' She asks me to hold and I can hear her seating about 3-4 tables before she returns. Ok sir what would you like' (There is no breakfast menu in the room, they push the evening restaurant menu pretty hard everywhere you go in that hotel but no sign of breakfast) Long story short I have attached an image of my breakfast, toast with no butter, an overdone fried egg, a single mushroom some potatoes and a pile of cherry tomatoes... I was pretty annoyed seeing as well, why would anyone think it's ok to send that to someone''' Finally at like 9:30 the water starts working (I only knew this because I had to keep returning to the bathroom every 5mins to test it) Now I stay a lot in hotels for work, I'm a loyal IHG member and would normally stay in the Crown Plaza where they have experienced staff and although it may not be as shiny and new they can take care of guests. Here are some suggestions: I get that water sometimes doesn't work, I've lived through it before, just offer to call the room when the issue is resolved, or tell them to expect a wake up call... Simple solution Breakfast: cumon guys it's harder to mess this up than it is to get it right, if you're going through the trouble of sending a trolly up with food to a guest that has no hot water then make an effort, throw a croissant on there if your cooked selection is bad, some OJ... Put some passion into what you are doing. I felt like I was eating breakfast in a Holiday Inn Express I was offered a call by the duty manager which I accepted but never came, if it was my own money paying for the room is have been so angry, but instead you made my first ever stay at your group of hotels one that I will remember for all the wrong reasons and after sharing my experience with my colleagues we know why the Crown Plaza is so much more popular amongst us all.
"What a let down"
Marco Pierre White needs to get back here and sort out the restaurant urgently it is like a glorified Bernie inn. I don't know how he can sleep at night with his name being used. My wife and I were so looking forward to the chateaux briand and it was cold and chewy. Not melt in your mouth. The sauces were poor. I just couldn't believe how on the TV everything has to be perfect or binned yet her they serve average meals yet charge a small fortune. The foie gras had no flavour. It you want to go to the restaurant just order a burger or something simple as maybe the chef can manage that and you don't fell ripped off. No fridge in the room and only one choice of tea or coffee. Call room service and you are put through to the bar. Come on Marco and co practice what you preach !
I stayed here on business as where I needed to be was only 0.5 miles away. Good location; as well within walking distance of the train station. I arrive later on; just after 8pm. Check in was straight forward enough, slightly impersonable and robotic - only gripe would have been nice to of been told there and then that I was given an accessible bathroom. The sink was lower and not keen on a wet room but room was spacious enough and nice to see this room available for users who require this. Key entry/lights all touch screen and all modernised. I ate downstairs in the Marco Pierre restaurant - nice enough. Bed was extremely comfortable. Had breakfast, just ate continental. I'm back again for 3 nights in March on business and look forward to staying. I'll be sure to ask on arrival what room type is.
"The most ideal first city break"
I decided to take my boyfriend here for our first weekend away. The staff were excellent, attentive and made us feel like royalty. We stayed in a suite, and we were blown away by the beautiful bathroom, living area and comfortable king size bed. For dinner, we tried the Marco Pierre Whites restaurant, it didn't disappoint and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is highly recommended, and we're already planning our next trip here!
