We have been upgraded with a suite. Warm welcoming from the staff. Our room was calm and decorated with taste. Good mattress, clean but a bit small bathroom. We asked for dinner to have a table close to the window to have good view of the city but finally we have been placed in another area in the middle of the room without any discretion. It was pleasant to use the inside pool afte our hiking day. Breakfast are generous, lots of choices with fresh food.
"What an extraordinary hotel!"
What an extraordinary hotel. Rooms were spacious and well equipped with a superb view of Megeve. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The interior parking was useful. The pool was great. Not far from Chamonix and the town of Megeve is beautiful. We will be happy to come back. In the suite for 10, which was wonderful, extra lights should be added. On the second floor it was quite dark because of the lack of windows.
"I have no idea why there are bad reviews of this hotel!"
We stayed for two nights as an extension to our weeks skiing holiday in Les Gets. The hotel gave us a very pleasant welcome with a tour of the facilities en route to our room. Having left Les Gets early, we arrived at the hotel by 10am expecting to just leave our luggage whilst we skied for the day. To our surprise, the Receptionist took us to our room immediately, as it was ready, allowing us to check-in five or six hours early. The hotel is very comfortable with a lovely fireplace area in the lobby. Public areas are mainly open plan to the Reception but feel cosy and private enough through the use of partitioning, Decor is typical Megevian style......classy with an abundance of cowhide and sheepskin throws. Breakfast was the usual array but we felt that each item was of higher quality than usual. There was a good selection of hot food as well as pastries, good smoked salmon, cheeses, meats and a high quality fresh fruit salad. The scrambled eggs were the best I have tasted from a buffet.....creamy and fluffy....not watery at all which can happen when they sit in silver servers. Definitely worth the £22 euros per person. We did not eat dinner in the restaurant but the lighting looked stunning in the evening and the menu looked inviting. The pool area looked perfectly pleasant. It was housed in a darkish area due to having no windows (it would benefit from some of the stunning lighting effects used elsewhere in the hotel) but I saw no reason for a complaint as some have mentioned. It was dim in lighting rather than gloomy. This can actually but quite relaxing to swim in. We had a standard double bedroom at the back of the hotel. It was just as shown in the picture but felt larger and more comfortable in real life than the picture might suggest. The bed was large and extremely comfortable. There was a small set of kitchen units, tastefully fitted in the room including a fridge.....very useful for drinks and milk from the bar for tea! I assumed that the full self-catering offer was only a summer option as there was a cooker and dishwasher but no utensils or pans. The bathroom was well furnished and comfortable with bath robes and slippers for the spa. The big white fluffy towels were soft and luxurious - a quality so often overlooked by many hotels. As we faced the back, the view from the decent sized balcony was really just a snowy bank and the sky but it was wonderfully quiet and relaxing with birdsong and sunshine morning and evening. Front facing rooms would have stunning views across the valley and village. The hotel is situated uphill from the village. It's in between the village and the lifts up to the top of Mont D'Arbois which is the main ski area. The minibus service is comfortable, regular and well executed with professional and friendly staff. The service visits the ski lifts and village centre every 20 mins, with a last pick up from the village at 10.45pm. It's too far to walk in ski boots to the lifts but this service is great. The lifts that the service takes you to are at the base of the ski area. Too far to walk from the village centre. There is gondola access from the village centre but it's a bit of a trek as the lift goes to a smaller ski area and you have to get a cable car over to Mont D'Arbois. I would say that using this bus service is easier than the gondola and cable car lifts from a hotel in the village We did not do it but I imagine hotel to village is about a 10 minute walk downhill. The walk back uphill would take longer! We were offered and enjoyed crepes on our return from the slopes but were charged for these... not a problem but others suggest they were complimentary. My only suggestion for development is the lack of an outside bar/terrace in winter. I understand that there is one in summer but the only outside seating in March was two sheepskin covered deckchairs outside the main entrance which effectively represented the smoking area. This was a pity with the fantastic weather and stunning views of the valley from the hotels elevation. All in all, Megeve is a pricey destination with very pricey hotels. This hotel is reasonable priced for a 4* in this area and I would doubt that there are many others to match it for value. We had a lovely stay and will return.
"Bad hotel "
Uncomfortable location. Kids club closed all weekend without any logical explanation (1 receptionist said they were preparing the room for a conference, but it remained empty all the time). Restaurant closed for lunch on Monday without any preadvice even after asking in the morning if they had anything on the menu for children as we wanted to have lunch after checkout and then leave. Relatively expensive breakfast considering you do everything yourself (from get the coffee to boil your egg, i.e., no service at all). Highly recommend you pay a little more for another more central alternative and avoid this one.
"DO NOT VISIT PLEASE"
Room was fine apart from being a bit dusty/pricey. But service and breakfast are a definite no go compared to the rest of hotels in the area, spa is terrible and limited and also very dirty. The reception added us extras on our bill that made no sense, the chef was extremely lazy and the staff in general really inefficient and not professional. Would not recommend!!! To book only as a last resort..
