"Lovely hotel, let down by the service"
Stayed here for 2 nights over the New Year to check out the sights of Valencia. The room itself was lovely, connecting rooms for the children meant we had plenty of room. The hotel architecture, lighting, fountains and location right on the beach is what attracted us to it. But the reason I am rating this lowly is because of the restaurant and service. Let's start with breakfast.. We are a family of 5 and were greeted by the waitress who told us there was not enough seating in the restaurant and would need to wait 10 mins for a table. This is fair enough as it is a busy time within the hotel so the waitress told us to wait in the bar and they would let us know when a table became available. So we waited and waited but 10 mins had passed and there was no sign of the waitress to tell us our table was now ready. Instead, within those 10 minutes the queue into the restaurant was now stretched out the door and we were now finding ourselves at the back of a queue of 20 people (having been told to wait in the bar). When I headed back to see what was taking so long, I noticed another big party of people going straight to a table. It's a shame that a 5* hotel had no organisation for breakfast and we now had to wait in the restaurant next to people that were eating in order to just get a table. It ended up taking us nearly 30 mins just to get a table for breakfast. Evening's were a different story. As the hotel is quite far from the main centre and we have young children, we decided to eat in the hotel both nights. As this is out of peak season, both "bar snacks" and "a la carte" were in the same restaurant. As a young family we only wanted bar snacks so headed into the restaurant to be greeted by a maitre'd who was less than impressed that we hadn't booked for "bar snacks"'! The restaurant at this time had nobody in it, we had young children so were eating early and he rudely explained we hadn't booked, they were fully booked but he would try and squeeze us in. The next night we decided not to make the same mistake again and reserved a table at the front desk. Later when we did head to the restaurant at the time we had booked for, the same maitre'd said they were not serving food in the restaurant tonight as they had a function later in the evening. We explained to him we had booked here to eat and reluctantly he served us but on both occassions we were made to feel unwanted and rushed. It is such a shame when you are paying so much money, you expect the same in service.
"Great spring break"
Stayed for 4 nights in March, perfect weather, great location on the beach. Room on 4th floor overlooking the sea,no noise from adjacent rooms just the sounds of the port operations at night if the window left open. Room was very warm but apparently the summer air con settings don't work in March! Spacious room with tea making facility and free soft drinks in the fridge. Friendly staff, particular mention to Carlos who sorted out our online check in for Ryanair despite the hotel printer not working. Good food in the hotel restaurant especially the turbot. Could do with a better snack menu-pretty much the expensive room service menu or the main restaurant only. Outdoor pool does not open until April-shame. Location pretty good as the tour bus stops outside and you can walk to the City of Arts in about 30mins. All in all a great place for a weekend break.
The hotel is very clean and service was excellent. Parking and car wash were arranged easily and with a smile. The indoor pool was nice but I was on my own! Any more than one person would make it crowded .. Beds are big and comfy. On the downside the whole place is getting just a bit tired. It is probably time to revisit the decor, especially the bathrooms. Otherwise there are great restaurants within walking distance, great views and good soundproofing if you happen to be there during the fireworks!
Stayed for 4 nights for my partner's birthday. This is a stunningly beautiful hotel. The service is impeccable. Our room, a deluxe twin with terrace and seaview was lovely and spotlessly clean. Sheets are turned down and chocolates delivered daily. They even put a birthday cake and message in the room on my partner's birthday, having made a note when we checked in. The restaurant menu is a little disappointing, although if breakfast is anything to go by, I'm sure the food is great. The hotel is right on a beautiful beach and there are nice restaurants nearby. It's easy to get into the city centre either by public transport or by car. Parking under the hotel is easy, and cheaper if you mention you need it before you arrive. Normally €19 per day, we were charged only €15. Fabulous.
Large beautiful hotel. Walking distance to the beach and all the restaurants. Make sure you ask for a room with ocean view. Disappointing was that they do not a small shop to buy a bottle of water on site.
