"5 star price not a 5 star hotel"
We haves stayed at hotel at the end of the 2017 season (April) for 6 days and had 6 rooms for two families. The rooms were as expensive as other top hotels at the resort but the quality of the room we got was lower and NOT 5 stars. Specifically, we stayed at what the hotel calls a "Suite" which is a poorly designed room from human engineering stand point (steep stairs , no enough light at the second floor , no view from second floor (bed) , not enough outlets , tiny bathroom at lower floor etc etc ) . Moreover, breakfast quality and its offering , SPA facility (no Gym no Jacuzzi ) and other services such as access to the Ski room from slops are not 5 stars. Moreover, hotel committed in writing to refund one room for one night which was not done ( I forgot about it ......) . To summarize this hotel is a very good and expensive 4 star..... hotel if you are looking for a 5 star hotel in Val Thornens go elsewhere. David Reis
"Beautiful ski in/ski out small luxury hotel"
We recently stayed at The FitzRoy for 10days with our children. It's modern but cozy decor was a haven during one of the busiest ski weeks in France. Rooms are small but nicely decorated. It has the best location in town, central to many restaurants and slope options- from beginner to advanced skiers- many other entertainment options for the kids in close proximity (indoor fun/sports area, tobogganing & bowling) & the hotel is still small enough to feel cozy. The square in front of hotel terrace is great for people watching and spontaneous tobogganing with the kids. One rec would be better room service options for kids in the evenings Ski shop is in house and all staff were extremely helpful Local shopping and end of season sales were incredible One tip: book your instructors early during peak season
"You get what you pay for - beautiful ski-in-ski-out hotel"
Outrageously expensive which gets you a first class experience. Cheerful, warm and friendly staff who graciously allow you to practice your French on them without making you feel like an idiot. Of course, they're fluent in English, so don't worry if you don't speak any French. Cosy corners off the lobby to hang out and read or order something from the bar. I was surprised that they have an electric kettle, tea bags and instant coffee packets, no cream or milk in the room. I've stayed in many lovely but less luxurious hotels where they have nice coffee makers or at least give you creamer capsules. No worries, go one block to the Sherpa supermarket, or a block further to the Carrefour supermarket. You'll find whatever you need. No half-and-half or evaporated milk for your coffee, but I settled on light cream from Sherpa. There's a mini fridge in the room. The ski shop is part of the hotel so you don't have to venture out for your gear.
"Fantastic week and a wonderful hotel"
My sister and I are just back from an amazing week in Val Thorens staying at the Fitzroy. We had the half board option and absolutely loved it. Reading peoples reviews before we left I was a little worried about the quality of the food and what to expect but was totally unnecessary - the food was amazing!! Some people's comments in earlier reviews were the total opposite to what we experienced. Only think I would say is that the portions were massive (could have cut it in half and saved you guys money) so we were never hungry. The staff in the hotel were so lovely - you couldn't have a nicer group of people working for you and it was a pleasure to speak to such lovely & helpful people. Our room was facing the village but with the double doors you didn't hear any noise from the street. The hotel location itself couldn't be better. We visited the other 5 star hotels for drinks but we would not have wanted to stay in any other hotel or any other location. From leaving the hotel room to collecting skis and being on the slopes would be 5-10 mins max - absolutely brilliant. Thank you to everyone who made our week so fantastic. Can't wait to come back :)
