"20 year anniversary "
We visited this place in October 2016 based a recommendation from a friend. I have stayed in other five star establishments but this hotel was another level. It goes without saying that the countryside is idealitc but the grounds and service here is above all others. Arianna at the front desk is spectacular. She helped organize many excursions. The restaurant staff are top notch. After our first meal, they remembered our requests and anticipated them each day. The best part of the service is that it is subtly spectacular. Every comfort is met without being bothersome.
"A piece of paradise"
This hotel is located in Castelnuovo Berardenga at the heart of Tuscany. The building is on the hill with the fabulous view of the valley below. The garden and amenities of the hotel is superb and the rooms are large and spacious. you do however need to have a car to get around since you are on the outskirts of the major towns.
"Fantastic breake before winter"
We were at Hotel Le Fontanelle 7 times but always we are surprised by something new, which makes us very comfortable and relaxed in this place. General Manager Marion gives a lot of her hearts to this place and to the guests. She is the best! All the team is very warm, open and helpful. Special thanks to Salvatore who gives us a lot of attention and care. Big thank you to Vittorio and Greta. Everybody are very proffesional and hard working to make all guests feel like at home. We can't wait next season to see those people and place again!
"Beautiful lunch spot in Chianti Country"
A friend recommended we have lunch here. Lunch was simply fantastic! But he forgot to tell us about the view! The food was delicious, light, yet filling enough that we didn't leave hungry. I had a timbale of avocado, aubergine, and tomato, topped with lovely grilled shrimp. My husband got a club sandwich that was a piece of art. After lunch, we walked around the property, the botanical garden, and just soaked up all the atmosphere from the surrounding vineyards. What a view! Would love to go back here!
"Difficult to find "
A lovely hotel in magnificent country surroundings. I love the morning mist over the vines... very beautiful and surreal. The sense of arrival to the hotel is unbelievable, a mountaintop facility with a long winding road up through beautiful olive groves.... The hotel is very lovely and the facilities are excellent. In the garage is a very lovely and dedicated man who looks after the vintage cars and handles baggage. A lovey man... The rooms are comfortable and have good comfortable beds, nice pillows and good amenities. All in all very well done and very well managed.. make sure you inform the front office what temperature you want your room to be set at or you will have a hot night until you do. They should ask this question at check in but do not. Bathroom is functional and although the shower is a little bit disappointing in a hotel of this quality, if you are acrobatic, you can finally get a good shower. Shower gel and shampoo are very good quality. Our room had a lovely balcony bigger than the room itself, with splendid views of the countryside. The rosemary in the garden smelled wonderful.. we enjoyed spending time here... They have some wonderful staff, and just a few not so good... the food and beverage staff are great, helpful and friendly. Quality of service is very good, although for the high prices charged you would expect that. Excellent food and good explanations, although the restaurant manager is a little bit stiff.. his focus is on good service so that is probably good... no complaints there... the breakfast buffet is very good and well managed. Some of the reception staff are not so friendly, and maybe let the team down a little bit in my opinion, my problems started when they were unable to provide precise directions to help me find the hotel... I ended up having to call four times, the directions are very imprecise and a bit hysterical. When you call for help, you expect precise help to avoid you wasting too much time going round and round. It took me 90 minutes to nail it down.. some people do not know their left from their right... Unfortunately this was very annoying and when I complained about it, I was told it was all my fault..... not too wise a diplomatic choice in my humble opinion.... Signage to the hotel is very poor and the address provided does not even include the name of the nearest village (Pianella).. this really needs to be improved. I received a message from the GM explaining that directions were provided which were good enough already. My opinion would be - listen to your guest - rather than ignoring such a point.... perhaps I am stupid!!! As well as Expedia and my BMW GPRS!!! If you are visiting this hotel, i suggest you pay very close attention to this point to avoid similar problems. Chef is good, simple and small menu but high quality, with good wine which was not too expensive... Did I enjoy it, yes most certainly. Would I return probably not at it is very pricy and local alternatives, although not so majestic, are very good also... not sure I would manage to find it again... Thank you Hôtel La Fontanelle we enjoyed our stay with you.
