Just wrapping up our first visit to Hotel Le Germain in Toronto. The hotel is hidden away on Mercer street in an area known for clubs and restaurants (at least to me). The hotel is a great location for those wanting to explore Toronto's vibrant downtown and nightlife. We were staying here on a one night getaway with our kids. The loved the modern design of the hotel and the areas restaurants. The rooms appear to be Newley renovated and are well appointed. The beds are extremely comfortable which is a bad thing when you are trying to get a teenager moving (as I am this morning). Equally hard to get out of the amazing shower. I only wish we had the same set up at home. Lots of pluses to this hotel- friendly, efficient staff, great location, beautiful rooms. A few minor things that give this hotel a 4 instead of 5: - arriving at hotel you don't know where to pull up as the street is busy and there is no driveway. A doorman outside would be great. - the washrooms towel hooks are in the toilet closet. Weird that they are not close to shower. Notice same kind of design in the maple leaf square hotel. - bar/club across the street could disturb light sleepers as they have a roof top patio. However if I wanted peace and quiet I really wouldn't stay in this area. Overall a great stay.
This hotel does everything right! I honestly can't remember when I've had a more enjoyable stay at a hotel anywhere. From the moment we arrived, our every need was attended to. The rooms are very large with a comfortable, modern design. The bathroom has an extra large shower with multiple showerheads and full-size bath products - no squeezing and shaking out tiny hotel samples. The breakfast was delicious and included a wide assortment of items. The location is close to theatres, shops, restaurants. And the staff is kind, professional, and attentive. Bravo Hotel Le Germain - you set the standard!
"It has potential to be better"
This hotel was very comfortable, spacious rooms, good breakfast, lovely staff - excellent concierge that gave us great tips for our road-trip to Niagara Falls - and very well located, only a short walk to many restaurants and points of interest. There's a small gym that might be a bit hard to use if there's too many people in it - but in my case I used it every day at 6am so I had it all to myself most days. The only negative was the inability to control the temperature in my room, for us it was too cold and the only thing they could do for us was to shut down the AC system for our room as it was still set for cold air. It was the beginning of October 2016 and I do admit that the weather was a bit strange - cold one day and warm the next - but I should be able to control the temperature in my room no matter what. My husband and I had to endure a long haul flight with a terrible cold because of a week-long cold room.
"They dont walk the talk"
Pros: prenium location, exellent breakfast, exellent bed Cons: victor restaurant a disaster. Staff not well trained. Exemples: was asking for a taxi. Reception atendant said you can ride the hotel car, just ask tomorrow morning. The next morning, different atendant. Does not know were the car is and cannot reach the car... Please do not create a need when you cannot fulfill a need. Espresso machine in the room. Just dont clean the machines. Check if they work from time to time. Victor restaurant. Only one waitress and one bar atendant. Seems they have no restaurant training. Mix sparkling water with still water. Dont know how to serve a 200$ wine ( the protocol ) one more staff @ 15$ an hour for 6 hours would have been a very good investment, no ' Germain claims to be associated with the best. Paid prenium for our stay, expecting prenium return. Not the case. A lot to learn. Please train your staff. Street very noisy but its not the hotel fault. It seems that in toronto honking your car is the flavor of the month at night
"Comfy but beware construction next door"
I felt the service was excellent. However, I was disappointed when the L O U D construction began around 6:45am on Wednesday morning. Come on... mama's solo trip away from kiddos dreams of sleeping in foiled! Also, the included breakfast was pretty weak. Location is nice - very close to theater district.
