"The final hotel of our holiday in Corsica"
A friendly welcome at reception, the receptionist was very engaging and pleasant - a definite improvement on the Hotel Les Mouettes in Ajaccio. We had a nice room, on the ground floor, spacious enough, although a little on the dark side - on the sunny side the only window had the outer shutters closed, perhaps as it looked onto the car park. The room had sea view and small terrace with table and chairs. The room had air conditioning but lacked a fridge, unfortunately, which meant that the food and drink we had brought with us after travelling had to be thrown away. This was a disappointment. There were also lots of mosquitos, perhaps because it was on the ground floor, close to frequently watered gardens which were in the shade. This meant the patio doors needed to be kept closed in daytime when we were in the room. The bath was impressive, but the room lacked ventilation and an extractor fan. Therefore hanging bath towels on the line provided over the bath was not a good idea, and had to be changed more often than had they been able to dry properly. There was also a strong damp and musty smell from the bedroom floor which I can only assume was the result of a poorly maintained mop by the cleaning staff. Breakfast - a delightful view of the bay opposite, from outside on the terrace, and overlooking a lawned garden that offered welcome shade from the high trees. The coffee was rather weak, however. The hot chocolate was a better alternative. Good choice of cereals, breads, cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts and fruit. There were also eggs available for cooking. Pancakes were in evidence also, but cold and piled on a plate, which was less appetising. All in all, the hotel felt less luxurious than Les Mouettes (Ajaccio) and the Best Western (Calvi).
"change in management, good news!"
fantastic location for a diner by the sea and in town two steps away from the Marina ... interesting menu, tasty food, nice presentation and good service for a reasonable price. What else! Go early, have a drink in the garden and then dine...
A very dated hotel. Do not book the cheaper rooms. The carpets upstairs smell stale and damp. The rooms are very small and opening the windows lets in all the noise from the road and also lets in mosquitoes. Unfortunately the sound proofing is quite bad so you can hear the other guests in the neighbouring rooms. There are no nice sun loungers to relax on. There was a big orange cruise ship 100m away from the shore for the duration of our stay which made it a horrible view. There is no beach, just pebblestones. The positives were that breakfast was included in the room rate which was not true of the other hotels we stayed at in Corsica.
"Gem by the Sea"
What an incredible place , it was truly a GEM by the sea, the setup and the charm was out of this world, the friendly and helpful staff were also the added bonus to our stay, we ate at the restaurant 3 times, a bit pricey but very good. All and all it was a great place to relax for three days, the town itself nothing to write home about, the taxi prices to the beach exuberant... You definitely need a car in Corsica and of all the times I didn't have one and so my stay became a bit boring. The hotel itself is to die for, I would stay here again.
"Quirky but nice"
Have just returned from a week's holiday and must say that this hotel is spotlessly clean and well run, the staff being very helpful, but certain things taken for granted were not available. We had a ground floor terrace room with the terrace leading down to the sea, which had no door to the bathroom so apart from a shower curtain there was a complete lack of privacy. The toilet was separate. The room was very minimalistic in decoration and furniture but there was never any smell as walls and floors were stone or tiled. The tv had a habit of cutting out on world service but other than that the wifi gave good reception and it was generally very acceptable. Breakfast was excellent and served in an airy dining room or terrace overlooking the sea. The choice of food left nothing to be desired and it was a pleasure to go there every morning. We did not have a car and found little or no public transport available. A 10 minute walk one way to the harbour was very pleasant and a similar walk the opposite way took us to a hypermarket and cafes which were very useful. The old town was about 15 minute walk uphill (not too steep - easier coming down) where shops and citadel were very interesting. The grounds of the hotel were fantastic with lawns leading down to the sea and plenty of chairs and tables both in the sun and shade so that a very pleasant afternoon could be spent doing nothing! I would recommend this hotel for a restful holiday but beware of mosquitoes and other biting insects.
