"a 3* at best"
Our recently visit at Le Pigonnet for a short weekend was rather disappointing. Their garden is lovely and the heated swimming pool OKish despite needing some maintenance, that's all the positive notes about this hotel. We were checked in a very small room (the size you would expect in a mid-range hotel in central London or NYC), we could hardly move around the bed and only one person at a time in the bathroom. Also, the room had an unpleasant smell of previous smokers mixed to humidity; despite our polite complaints the staff told us with a smile that there was no other room available. After a closer look we noted the unacceptable amount of dust in the room, body hair on top of the bed, insects in the bath cubicle, etc...we visited the reception (intercom/telephone not working) and a cleaning lady was sent to the room with an apologize. Regarding the spa, apparently they charged 30eur each person for a session in the sauna, we passed that experience. In the morning (on a Sunday) we tried to have breakfast at 10:45am but we were told it was already finished and that we should wait for the restaurant to open at lunchtime. Overall and based on our recent visit this hotel is mediocre and definitely not a 5* as advertised.
"Doesn't deserve 5 stards"
We booked here after our stay in Nice but were quite disappointed. We thought that we were going to stay in a 5 stars hotel but that was not the case. The staff is friendly, our room was very small if we take in cconsideration what we paid. The decor is quite old. The garden is a good place to have a drink but we didn't like the pool closed by a fence. This is not what we call luxury. Service is ok even if we had to wait for more than 20 minutes to order a drink...The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the city center ...
We thoroughly enjoyed our few days in Aix en Provence, walking into town each day (although there is a shuttle bus offered by the hotel). The pool is heated and the gardens are beautifully manicured. You can hide in a corner and read or sun bake by the pool. Our proximity to town made going out easy but the restaurant at the hotel was beyond reproach with friendly genuine and knowledgable staff. We hope to come back
This is truly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed. You can see by the photos how beautiful the gardens are, and they truly are! The food in the restaurant was superb. The staff were always so helpful and friendly. Although it is a short walk to the town center, there is also shuttle service if you want it. Will definitely be back!
"Beautiful stay in AIX"
This hotel is a beautiful property with a very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast and dinner at the restaurant are great. The gardens in the back of the hotel are beautiful with flowers and a great place to relax or have a drink. The room we had at the hotel was nice, spacious and had a very nice decor, also the water pressure is great. The only downside to the hotel might be the location, it is a 20 minute walk to town but the hotel provides a shuttle to town. The overall experience here was a positive one and would recommend it to other traveling to Aix.
