"Great Location for Activities, Pricey Extras"
Hotel LKF has very nice accomodations for it's guests. I would suggest, however, that it is not practical for those who are not on an expense account or perhaps for most tourists. I booked this accomodation for one night at the end of a multi-destination Asia trip so that we could see a few sites on Hong Kong Island like Man Mo Temple. Arriving at about 9 pm, the street was bustling with high end bars/nighclubs next to and across from the hotel. The lobby is small & generally teeming with people. The hallways of the hotel & the bathrooms in the room have that distinct underlit quality favored by "hip" (sorry) hotels of the past. Applying make up in this lighting is not possible. I admit that I booked my night on Agoda for just under $200 US. And this is a very good price for this quality on Hong Kong Island. In the end, however, I felt that the internet accomodation bargains are designed to bring in clients, otherwise not prepared for the high cost of extras. I know that minibar charges are always inflated--but it was $35US for a half bottle of Chardonnay. It was also $18US for 24 hours of WI-FI. When we checked out the next morning at noon we needed to store 1 regular size suitcase, 1 carry on suitcase, & 1 woman's handbag for 3 hours. The cost was $20 per piece or $60 total. I need to ackowledge, as well , however, that the hotel did work with me to return a white shirt (at my expense) that I left in the closet. My final say--great service--but only tourists with unlimited pockets should pursue.
"Smelly and old"
Got to my room after arriving from China and noticed a smell , went to have a shower and had the bath tub fill up with water as the drain seemed blocked , then the shower head started leaking from every direction, I tried lifting the drain plug and found the most disgusting pile of hair and goodness knows what else. There was also a thick layer of dust covering the wood feature walls, So I complained and the next morning everything was supposedly fixed . I had also completed my survey that was left in my room on arrival that should be posted back to head office. Mysteriously that survey disappeared once the public relations manager had gone through for an inspection with house keeping, as she left me a hand written letter explaining her inspection .so what else happened whilst I was not present. By the way after 2 days the mouldy musty smell was back. The hotel is old and slowly rotting and needs an overhaul, and a word of advice , watch out for the male bar tender , not only does he need to learn how to wear clean clothes but seems to find it difficult to give you back the right change, he tips himself and tells you it's all tax. Oh and the buffet breakfast is very average, nor can you go out on to the rooftop terrace unless your a smoker as you can't even have a drink out there. Go somewhere else.
"Seen better days - no longer recommended"
Stayed here for 4 nights in a 600 room on 26th floor. We have stayed here several times but not been for 4 years. Booked directly on the hotel website. Seems like nothing has changed or been attended to in the intervening time as the rooms and public areas are looking very tired. On checkin our only interaction with the staff was him telling us it was breakfast for one (weird, incorrect and just not very welcoming). They called us night before departure to check if we wanted to pay 900HKD for a limo to the airport - easy, no thanks. Service at breakfast was average - did not explain what we could order, nice chap working there in visibly dirty, stained clothes. All a bit sad. At $500aud a night this place is bad value, and there are much better options on the island. Avoid.
The room was good but the location is what makes this place a killer spot! I always stay here when I am traveling to HK! There are many great restaurants in the area that are just a walk away and cool bars all around.
"Gone downhill - fast"
Have always stayed here when in HK as enjoyed the boutique style and central location. The property and amenities were always in a nice condition and the bar and restaurant was always really good. Stayed there for a night recently and was quite amazed at the state of the property and the general feel of the place. The rooms are in need of a lot of maintenance and the bathrooms were dirty and smelt really bad. There was dust/dirt on a few surfaces and the carpets were worn and walls dented and chipped. The breakfast was average - no table service evident and an average selection (expect more for over 200HKD) and there was junk and abandoned equipm, ent all over the show. It honestly looked like they were closing down
