My Wife and I spent two wonderful days here. They have a great hotel, incredibly courteous and knowledgable staff. We got great recommendations about the city and things to do. The room itself couldn't have been nicer. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a terrace room, one on the fifth floor with a terrace looking out to the coast. A beautiful city in a magical place and a hotel to match.
Such wonderful people, gorgeous suite, excellent concierge and reception staff. Bar a bit juvenile and inefficient. Lovely breakfast buffet. The address of choice when in San Sebastián. Beautiful room recently redecorated. Loved the hotel and the city.
"Pure elegance in Donostia"
We spent five nights in this hotel in October in a family garden view room. The room was huge with a nice sitting area, a spacious bathroom with a single sink and a separate bathtub, shower, and toilet. The tub was not jetted or air bath, but was so big that it provided a wonderful warm soak after a long day of touring. We even had an unexpected wide wrap-around terrace with lovely views of the city and a couple of chairs to relax in. The bed was incredibly comfortable. No coffeemaker or Nespresso machine, the only negative to mention about the room, as I enjoy having a cup while getting ready for the day. Service and housekeeping were prompt and courteous. The building is elegant, both inside and out. With regard to location, the Maria Cristina is perfectly situated to walk to the old part of the city in order to hop between pintxo bars or sit down in a nice restaurant, to go for a stroll on the walkway of La Concha beach, or to meander along the base of Monte Urgull- all highly recommended as the landscape is absolutely serene and beautiful. Make a point of taking a seaside leisurely walk as the sun sets on Donostia. It is breathtaking. Other important questions: The hotel offers an extensive breakfast buffet with a large selection of fresh cut fruit, fresh juices, local cheeses and hams, quince jam (membrillo), a large block of honey in its comb, small bowls of panna cotta and rice pudding, delectable scrambled eggs, fresh made omelettes, lots of pastries and croissants, churros, warm bacon and sausage, really good freshly-made Spanish tortilla, caviar, smoked salmon, and a classic Basque cake. I’m sure that I’m forgetting a few items, but I mention those that my husband and I tried. We personally watched as a person in charge walked around replenishing plates. And coffee: American style, espresso, con leche caliente... however you prefer it. The host that seated us each morning was so friendly, always with a smile on his face. Service was excellent. Final notes: the concierge was very helpful, not only through emails exchanged prior to our arrival but also during our stay. They helped arrange lunch reservations as well as to confirm other tours we made independently. Maps, directions, and explanations were offered without hesitation. If I had to nitpick a complaint it would be that the hotel did not have a Basque cuisine lunch or dinner restaurant onsite, instead having only an occasional pop-up which we did not try. I realize that San Sebastián is full of wonderful and intriguing eating establishments, but to have this as an option would be appealing especially in such a beautiful hotel. We would definitely stay at the Maria Cristina again on our next trip to San Sebastián.
"Wonderful city and good hotel"
I believe it's one of the better hotels in san sabastien. Rooms are quite large. Did the cooking classes downstairs and pintxo tours. Wonderful service and we made good friends on the tour. Food in san sabastian is wonderful and would like to visit again
"Stay in Style"
The hotel is in perfect harmony with nineteenth century San Sebastian. Rooms are pleasantly modernized and service is attentive. The breakfast experience is somewhat diminished by the usual tourist who finds it appropriate to appear in jogging shorts as if in his own backyard but other than that all is well. Go for a higher floor if possible as there is a bit if traffic outside.
