"Pinxtos weekend getaway! Perfect! "
My partner invited me for a weekend getaway to San Sebastián and we stayed at the Maria Cristina. The service was top notch from the front of house staff, concierge, doormen and bell boys. We had a superb and gigantic suite that was modern, refreshed and superbly appointed. The beds were comfortable and we slept like babies. This is a true 5 star hotel! Next time we come we will stay here again.
"Very nice hotel"
Since I go there regularly I must say that the hotel is good, the rooms are big and the service is good. I will come back again soon. The breakfast buffet has improved in terms of quality. The bar is not much busy since the hotel is close to the old town where you find plenty of alternatives.
"Incredible hotel in San Sebastian"
We had never been to Spain and the Hotel Maria Cristina was the most amazing introduction to San Sebastian and to Spain! From the moment we arrived, we knew that this was a very special place. We were greeted warmly and upgraded to a junior suite with a view of the river and the ocean beyond. The pale gray, white and black decor was soothing and elegant. The bed was sublime! We loved the glamorous teal and dark wood bar and enjoyed drinks and delicious burgers the first evening. We could walk every where and enjoyed the beauty, the charm and the incredible restaurants, with such imaginative food! We will definitely be back!!
"CLASSIC ELEGANCE AND A DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE TO STAY HERE"
We were thrilled with our choice to stay at the Hotel Maria Cristina. What a grand hotel, with its imposing Belle Epoque exterior. Not only is it in a wonderful central location, (walking distance to the bus station across the Maria Cristina bridge) and very close to the Old City and the plethora of Pinxtos Bars, it is understated elegance at its best. Compared to some North American Hotels, where bellboys rush after you and say 'How are you' without even looking you in the eye, this hotel has got them all beat. It feels so warm and welcoming, like each guest is a personal friend. They offer free bicycles, which we would have loved to take advantage of, but we simply ran out of time. We were wowed by the luxurious, pretty and elegant surroundings, with rooms to match. It is the epitomy of class, without any of the pretensions. We felt so fortunate to be able to stay here and we had a wonderful experience for the five nights we were there. What a pleasure it was to receive a welcome E-mail from the Concierge, before we arrived. It made us feel like we really counted and we weren't just some anonymous guests from Canada. We were very impressed that we were informed ahead of time of the pop up Michelein starred restaurant Helene Larroze at the hotel, so that we could have the opportunity to book a table there for dinner, during our stay. The bar, I might add, was another area of the hotel where it was a treat to sit and have a drink in the lovely surroundings. Perrier Jouet champagne never tasted so good! We were constantly on the go during our visit and did not have time to take advantage of the gym. From the impeccable cleanliness and super comfortable beds, to the large bathroom, lovely toiletries and general spaciousness of the room, as well as the quiet, (our room overlooked the river), we felt thoroughly spoiled. Even when they were busy at the Front Desk, each employee that we dealt with was very pleasant and knowledgeable. If they were not sure of the answer to our question, they checked with their colleagues. Even when I wrote the Concierge ahead of time, asking how to arrange the Pesa bus tickets from Donostia directly to the airport in Biarritz, they offered to help me book a ticket. The service at the hotel was wonderful. Another example was when we were buying the traditional cider glasses at the beautiful hotel gift and gourmet shop, I asked the Saleswoman, Nagore, if it was worth going to the fishing village of Getaria to see the Cristobal Balenciaga Museum. Not only did she give me a resounding YES, she kindly told us which bus to catch (UK 11) on Avenida Liberatad, outside the Farmacia and the women's clothing store, Auzmendi) and proceeded to tell us about Getaria. In addition to the museum (which is lovely), she told us about the tiny town (charming cobblestoned streets) and where to have lunch - at IRIBAR. What a find! Had we not asked Nagore, we never would have known about this place. She also suggested to climb to the top of the small mountain in the town, at water's edge; El Raton, which we did. She really made our day trip to Getaria great with her helpful suggestions. Since we left Donostia early in the morning, before the hotel shop opened. we did not get a chance to thank her for her extensive help. We would like to make a request that someone at the hotel please thank her for us. As you can see by this story, the service at this hotel goes above and beyond what is required. It is so appreciated, though. If you want an extraordinary experience, it is well worth choosing this exceptional hotel.
My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel Maria Cristina to celebrate our anniversary. It is absolutely beautiful. Comfortable rooms, perfect location, and helpful staff. You won't be disappointed staying here!
