A really great hotel with one or two abraded areas. Nothing really horrible compared to some. Kitchen help was a little surley following a request for a bagel. Don't ask for room service during supper prep time! We were starving. We would have been happy with some toast. But no. We were left with our free chips from the room stash. Surviving this and making it to nightfall, and our very comfy beds, the heater in the room began a horrible sound of disgorgement. We thought it would pass. It did, until 330 am, Puff the Magic Dragon woke up. Again, no big deal. We survived. The absolute best part were the dogs. So many wagging tails and kisses! Loved it. If you travel with your pet, this is the only hotel you will need. And before I forget...parking is very expensive at $30 a night. Add the valet tips, and you have a sizable outlay of Benjamin's for an extended stay. Just keep that in mind if you are on a travel budget. All in all, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
"Wonderful Alternative "
This hotel is a great alternative to the large chain hotels. Excellent location and beautifully decorated. This was my second visit, and it did not disappoint. Great indoor pool with a lifeguard is an unexpected bonus. The hotel restaurant is very good, especially the breakfast.
"Nice hotel....but you had better be a dog person"
Overall, this hotel is great. Fantastic location, funky (and spacious) rooms, etc. It was annoying there wasn't a coffee maker in the room (even the crummy, tiny kind). Aside from that, the only real downside (for me, anyhow) is that it's a "pet friendly" hotel and there were dogs everywhere. I couldn't go downstairs to the lobby without hearing a dog whining or barking. I couldn't go anywhere, in fact, without running into a dog (or someone holding a dog). I'm not much of a dog person and if you're allergic to dogs' Forget it. I'm sure this is great for those who want to bring their pets on vacation (and I believe they take all animals - it was just dogs I saw all the time) but really, getting "whapped" on the leg by some massive dog in the bar area is not my idea of fun. Thankfully, we never heard any dogs barking while in our hotel room, but I'm sure it's been an issue and one, I'm assuming, the hotel will handle. I gave it 4 stars because the location can't be beat and everyone was friendly. Also, the restaurant (Jackson 20) is really good. But, yeah...I'm not a dog person and would have loved the hotel if I didn't feel I was in a kennel at times.
"Wonderful slick style boutique hotel"
From the time you set foot in the lobby, you'll know that you are in a great hotel. The fashion design is off-beat, but so creative and interesting! Staff is nice. Rooms aren't big, but very nice. Jackson 20 Restaurant serves up good Southern food!
"Great Location on King Street"
This was just a one night stay as an after thought when planning to visit DC. We wanted to tack on an extra day and decided to try out Alexandria. The Hotel is nice and the staff was nice. We brought our dog who was really nervous in a new surrounding. We left for dinner and hotel staff had to apologetically call because he was barking. We came back and it seemed to help. It was my fault for not giving him time to get used to surroundings after a long drive. Staff was helpful and nice. Gave him treats. I really like the location and it is on King and Royal street so the perfect prime spot. I have an affinity for Kimpton hotels and would rather not stay in another hotel brand. The area was very quiet at night once Old Town settled. However, it was chilly that I assume everyone just wanted to get back indoors. Our room was on the 5th floor on King Street side. I think the only thing that I have to agree with from other reviewers is that I felt that my bed was rather hard. The room was extremely nice but I couldn't sleep but a few winks.
