We just got back from two nights at The Alexandrian and we really enjoyed it. The location can't be beat; you can walk just about anywhere of interest in Old Town and the hotel itself was kind of funky and charming. We also liked the spaciousness of our room.
"Enjoyable Christmas Stay"
This is a great hotel with a great location in downtown Alexandria. We stayed here the first week of transition from Kimpton to Marriott. There were a few glitches but the front desk handled them professionally and efficiently. The hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly. The Christmas Eve milk and cookies were a great personal touch.
"The Alexandrian - Great location in Old Town Alexandria, VA."
The Alexandrian on King Street is a unique, boutique style hotel in the heart of Old Town within walking distance of many places of interest including The Torpedo Factory art center and the Harbor area. Everyone on the staff was very personable and helpful. The rooms are very nice. A good value for a reasonable price. I stayed there for a family wedding weekend. A fantastic restaurant outside the side door is Restaurant Eve. An incredibly charming place with lots of ambiance and fine gourmet food. The hotel has a nice restaurant as well.
This was a very nice hotel convenient to everythinf in Old Town Alexandria. Even though we had a room adjacent to the street, we weren't bothered too much by any noise. My only complaint was that we reserved a room with a King bed, and when we checked in they said they only had rooms available with two doubles. So we had to push the beds together for it to be big enough for my husband and I to sleep together (the guy at the front desk said we could "just squeeze onto one bed". Sorry, but I didnt want to "squeeze" onto a bed we paid $120 per night for). Also, room service was ridiculously expensive. I expected it eould be more, but we only ordered a smoothie and some tea for the morning and it ended up costing $24. They don't tell you on the menu card that theres extra ridiculous fees for delivery and other charges. Wouldve just gone to starbucks if we had known. But, the room was clean and (once we pushed the beds together) comfortable.
"full service but not cookie-cutter"
The Alexandrian retains its Kimpton-era decor as it joins the Marriott's Autograph Collection. Front desk staff was excellent and helpful. Platinum status and a super friendly check-in agent netted me a nice suite upgrade. Good bed and workspace. Ritzy marble bathroom with giant soaking tub. Overall, it was comfortable on the verge of luxurious at a great price. My one complaint' No coffee maker in the room. But there's a Starbucks on the next block.
