"Good location, average room experience"
This hotel is not in an old historic building, although they would like you to think that it the case. It is probably not over 30-35 years old, so there is no excuse for the persistent 'poor ventilation' smell that has been present during two different stays in two different rooms. The room size is adequate for two people who are not staying for more than a few days. The television was grand in size, which we enjoyed. The maid service was adequate. The bed was rather uncomfortable as it is too soft. What bothered me the most, though, was the moldy smell coming from the towels once they were wet...indicating towels that were not washed in hot water or with any bleach. Rather gross, considering how so many hotel chains now do their own linen laundry on-site in order to save $$, but at what expense of cleanliness and shared germs'' Overall just average for the price.
"Great Boutique Hotel in Heart of Old Towne"
Loved the decor - very retro & unique! The staff were all excellent - front desk, bell hops - everyone!! Love that they're dog friendly. Enjoyed seeing the pets in the lobby and courtyard. We did not have a pet this time. If you're not a pet lover - simply request room on different floor from the "dog floor" and you will have no issues whatsoever. We never heard barking at all! Loved our stay there.
"In the heart of beautiful Old Town Alexandria"
One of two Kimpton properties in Old Town, Hotel Monaco is closer to the water, directly across the street from the nation's oldest Farmer's Market, and smack dab in the middle of this beautiful city. The hotel recently underwent a renovation, in keeping with the historical surroundings. The rooms are small, but well maintained. The service at the hotel is very good, and would be rated excellent, were it not for the slow valet service. Alexandria is a fantastic place to enjoy a nice meal, a good night's sleep, and just a quick drive away from D.C. proper.
"Another great stay at a Kimpton hotel"
We stayed at the Monaco Alexandria for two nights while attending a wedding. The hotel is lovely and located in a very nice section of Alexandria (my first time there). The staff were very warm and welcoming, and went out of their way to be helpful. The lobby is striking, i keeping with most of the Kimpton hotels I have stayed at. (Kimpton is really my favorite hotel chain). The hotel is pet-friendly and I met lots of cute dogs in the lobby. I had a pet goldfish reserved for my stay, which was really fun until the second day when our little goldfish seemed much more sluggish than it did the day before, so sadly I returned it to the front desk where hopefully it could be returned to their big goldfish tank to get healthy! Our room was very nice, bed was very comfortable, temperature was good. The bathroom was also great, and the shower pressure was tremendous. As a Karma Rewards member, we received a $10 credit toward the minibar. Like all Kimpton hotels, there was a free wine reception in the late afternoon/early evening. Every Kimpton I have ever stayed in has been great, and this one was no exception. They also graciously allowed me to have a late checkout, so when I attended the post-wedding brunch the next morning I had extra time to go back to the room and get ready to leave. All in all, a great stay and I will definitely stay here again if I return to Alexandria.
"My favorite in Alexandria"
Outstanding Kimpton. I have been to this facility on two different business trips and have had consistent attentive care and quality service. Everything is to my liking, and if I have a request, they find a way to make it happen. I am in WnDC often for business and strive to make this my "home" each visit. From the front desk to the valet staff, everyone is there to help. I particularly like the rooms, the decor and the location.
