"It's okay, but not like other Kimptons"
Stayed here for a week. The rooms were large, but there were lots of things not working - water hammer in the shower, toilet was constantly refilling itself, phone didn't work - thick dust on the phone, which was gross and quite a bit of hallway noise. The manager's reception was lovely and so is the restaurant. I've stayed at lots of Kimptons and this one was just a bit off.
"Dark and creepy"
We spent the weekend in Alexandria at the Hotel Monaco by reference for the art exhibit and a resort presentation. The only enjoyment was the art exhibition. We walked into the dark and creepy Hotel Monaco. There is no smoking in the hotel however, looking at the carpet and the walls there seem to be evidence of smoking. We had to pay $29 a day for parking in a dark low hanging garage with a leaking roof; no microwave or refrigerator in the room and there is an OLD smell throughout the hotel. Oh, let me say there is a pay as you take small stocked refrigerator in the rooms. We were there from Friday to Monday, however we checked out Sunday. I just could not take it any longer. If I had not spent so much time at the resort presentation I would have left Saturday. One more issue was we had to pay $23 a day called room taxes (state;local;city) WOW.. But, to each it's own. They are still in business so there are people who likes to stay there. The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Alexandria is not for me and my family!
Stayed here in the end of August with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. We are both Kimpton Addicts and the Monaco in Alexandria lived up to both our our expectations. Check in was super easy and the women at the front desk were very warm, welcoming and overall spectacular. We were able to check in a little early which was perfect. Our room was beautiful, spacious, clean and very comfortable. Plenty of closet space plus drawers for clothes and as always the fabulous robes. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the courtyard and was a great spot to relax. The staff was wonderful, they genuinely care about you and your stay and it shows in their work. Would absolutely stay here again! Tip: Join kimpton rewards. Totally worth the free wifi and all the perks.
We spent a weekend in Alexandria at our favorite hotel -- the Monaco on King Street. It was hopping with weddings in the courtyard which our room overlooked. As usual, our room was whimsical and comfortable. The fainting couch near the balcony was a great location for reading the paper. The animal print bathrobes never fail to amuse. The room was short on electrical outlets. If you have the usual array of things to charge, bring a power strip. Also there was no shower mat or grab bar in the tub/shower so be careful getting in and out! We love that it's dog friendly: our room was equipped with a dog bed and two dog bowls, but alas no actual dog. It was the one thing we couldn't have the Front Desk send up. The evening happy hour in the lobby features complimentary red and white wines and a spicy snack mix. The free King Street trolley passes right out front, and will take you near the Metro stop. The hotel is right in the middle of a great array of restaurants and shops. The free hotel shuttle to and from Reagan National Airport runs on the top of the hour and is very convenient. The Front Desk staff is friendly and enthusiastic. We'll definitely come back.
"Great location and hotel"
Monaco is the ideal place on King Street; location is perfect and staff very helpful and accommodating. Coffee in the morning, although no food. Evening wine is ok; white is chardonnay which is so 80:s; red is Cab. Rooms are lovely ; decorated nicely and bathroom amenities very nice.
