Zermatt really is a beautiful place, especially with a fresh fall of snow that we experienced whilst staying there. The hotel is in a perfect location, within walking distance of the centre and train station. It has an inter connected ski hire shop plus boot room, that even has its own coffee and afternoon tea refreshments. The spa here is outstanding with a stunning in and outdoor pool. The room ( suite ) we had looked out over the Matterhorn, just the most stunning view. The staff were outstanding at this hotel, it has a quaint Swiss feel but delivers at every level. You will not be disappointed staying here.
"Such a comfortable place to stay - but does lack something"
Fantastic bedrooms, excellent service, first class boot room and ski service, wonderful staff, great breakfast, good evening bar ambience, but, there is something missing in the whole package. Maybe it is a lack of general atmosphere, maybe just the impact of being an exceptionally well run 5 star hotel, but we felt a little "flat" whilst staying here
"Good but could be great......."
First we were upgraded to a lovely suite facing the Matterhorn. The room and living room were very large. The bed and (2) baths could not have been more comfortable. I found the decor nice but very impersonal.....overall the hotel is very large and somewhat impersonal. The rooms had been recently redone.....Oddly seating in the living room was VERY uncomfortable.....and the most annoying thing (almost comic) was the lighting......it was NEARLY impossible to control....you would have the bath nightlight on and then nothing would respond and you'd give up and just go with zero lighting....very frustrating....too high tech for its own good. My other peeve was the spa. I had an outstanding massage, but while waiting for it one guy was watching a video and then talking to his father in a very loud voice....no one at the desk said anything.....Might be a cultural difference, but still...too loud! The spa itself had a strange smell I didn't like.....so after one try I skipped it..... The Mt. Cervin Grill was excellent. I found the other dining room, where they serve breakfast, very cold and impersonal. The staff was quite unfriendly. The Conciege either didn't understand English or was pretending to, because nothing we asked of him got done. The location of the hotel is excellent.....all the lifts are a walk....there is a long walk to a very luxurious ski room....although the ski concierge was never around to help and was playing acid rock which I didn't love early in the morning.... So, despite my gripes, this is a very good hotel....just wish it were a bit smaller and more alpine and personal.
"Historically the Best hotel in Zermatt"
the hotel is perfectly located on the main promenade in Zermatt, being a car free Village. the hotel doesn not suffer from car pollution or noise. once you arrive to Zermatt station you can be picked up by a hotel horse carriage, which is very nice and makes you feel immediately welcomed even before reaching the hotel. the hotel public areas are very nice, I tested the bars, the Grill restaurant and the 1818 Restaurant which is outside the hotel but belongs to it. all were very good, excellent food & service. costs are high compared to other cities / countries but this is normal in Switzerland and specially in Zermatt which is one of the most expensive spots in Switzerland. the rooms are nice, I enjoyed comfort and clam while there. the SPA is highly recommended and for SKi Fans, the Ski shop is just under the hotel. This is a place highly recommended for any type of travellers, family, couples, signles, friends, etc...
"Ok ok ..."
We've received an upgrade to an 60 m2 Alpine Classic Open Junior Suite (in the "Petit Cervin" giving to the north) although having booked just 2 days ahead and the hotel, we were told, was fully booked. Thank you ! For a 5* hotel I would expect a hanger on the balcony. Otherwise the hotel is ok, and you get what you expect, if not any view of the matterhorn and no sun reaching your room. Very friendly staff ! Exceptional transfer service from the hotel's parking in the valley up to Zermatt. Leaving it even went faster, after less than 20 minutes we were sitting in our car waiting for us at the entrance - bravo ! For the 3 out of 4 restaurants belonging to hotel my commentaries will tell about how we were somewhat irritated; they are to be found directly at the sites of the restaurants.
