"Historically the Best hotel in Zermatt"
the hotel is perfectly located on the main promenade in Zermatt, being a car free Village. the hotel doesn not suffer from car pollution or noise. once you arrive to Zermatt station you can be picked up by a hotel horse carriage, which is very nice and makes you feel immediately welcomed even before reaching the hotel. the hotel public areas are very nice, I tested the bars, the Grill restaurant and the 1818 Restaurant which is outside the hotel but belongs to it. all were very good, excellent food & service. costs are high compared to other cities / countries but this is normal in Switzerland and specially in Zermatt which is one of the most expensive spots in Switzerland. the rooms are nice, I enjoyed comfort and clam while there. the SPA is highly recommended and for SKi Fans, the Ski shop is just under the hotel. This is a place highly recommended for any type of travellers, family, couples, signles, friends, etc...
"Ok ok ..."
We've received an upgrade to an 60 m2 Alpine Classic Open Junior Suite (in the "Petit Cervin" giving to the north) although having booked just 2 days ahead and the hotel, we were told, was fully booked. Thank you ! For a 5* hotel I would expect a hanger on the balcony. Otherwise the hotel is ok, and you get what you expect, if not any view of the matterhorn and no sun reaching your room. Very friendly staff ! Exceptional transfer service from the hotel's parking in the valley up to Zermatt. Leaving it even went faster, after less than 20 minutes we were sitting in our car waiting for us at the entrance - bravo ! For the 3 out of 4 restaurants belonging to hotel my commentaries will tell about how we were somewhat irritated; they are to be found directly at the sites of the restaurants.
We stayed here in early Jan. Originally booked for 9 nights but ditched Barcelona and extended it to a fortnight. Easily the best overall place we've ever stayed in (and we only ever do 5 star, which I appreciate sounds somewhat precious but it's relevant to the comparison of the peer group!). Expensive but not prohibitively so when compared to Venice or some of the other usual European capitals. I think the distinguishing feature was the staff. Everything was pretty much perfect from start to finish. The pickup in the carriage was great (lovely horses). Good concierge (thanks Boris and Lisa, who organised ski lessons and all the other things perfectly - they even sent some of our stuff home as we didn't want to drag it around through the US before heading home). The dine-around thing is great with a nice selection. Favourite place was the grill (a big hello to that gorgeous waiter with the Buddy Holly glasses whose usual response to every request was "my big pleasure" - and I think he was actually genuine - nothing was ever a problem. You rock Big Boy). Brilliant food too as in all of their restaurants including in the mini/petit Cervin. In fact they were all wonderful. Particularly as on the first few nights our kids were absolutely shattered from the 24 hour flight and the jetlag etc. Nothing was too much trouble. I kept waking up at 3am so asked the night manager to open the gym for me for a few early starts and there was never a grumble etc - he just took me down, let me in and switched everything on. Room service was very fast and always very friendly. Housekeeping ditto. The pool is fantastic with the option to swim out into the snow. Very novel. Never swum in the snow before. We'll definitely do back. The only (single) downside was the room of noisy folk nearby (I'm afraid I can't be more descriptive due to the nanny state posting guidelines) in an adjacent room who screamed at each other on a few nights but you can get that anywhere (in fact we had a similar noisy bunch in the Widder in Zurich). The Widder was way groovier but lacked the warmth which was interesting. Anyway, this is place was as close to hotel perfection as we've experienced and we're aching to return.
"Luxury facing the Matterhorn"
My wife and I spent a wonderful week during January 2017 at the Mont Cervin Palace. The hotel is in perfect location in the center of town with an unobstructed view of the Matterhorn. From the moment we were picked up in a horse drawn carriage at the train station until our departure, we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel is beautiful and our room was great. The service was awesome and the meals we had at the hotel were fabulous. We particularly enjoyed 2 dinners at the Grill Le Cervin and 1 dinner at an affiliated restaurant 1818. The staff was always polite and anxious to help with any questions or activity planning. The only issue of note was that the ski locker room, while spacious and comfortable, was understaffed and at times we could have benefited from a bit more help with our boots and skis. Additionally, there are three lifts in town. While they are relatively close to the hotel, 2 of the lifts require transportation. The hotel does not provide transportation to the lifts so one needs to be prepared to take a taxi to and from those lifts which costs $12-$15 each way.
"Beautiful Palace with a view of my beloved Matterhorn"
This is definitely one of the best hotels of The Leading Hotels of the World.Great architecture - old palace. Located in one of the best places in the world - just fancy you have a room with a view of beautiful Matterhorn /yes this sexy mountain you know from Toblerone chocolate bar/. My room was really something. Hotel offers Spa Centre and a very good restaurant. Professional service. All great but pricey of course.
