The room was exactly the same as photograph on website. Comfortable bed and very clean. Well stocked minibar if your into that. Our room was facing side street but even so very noisy with traffic, particularly ambulances heading to the hospital nearby. You can close windows and rely on aircon instead, if the noise is a problem. Good choice and quality of breakfast available, with a lot of items served in individual pots. Staff are efficient and unobtrusive. The quality of food in the resturant is excellent, with big portions. The menu is not extensive but covers most preferences. We ate there each night (4) and had a different dish each time. All freshly prepared and well executed. The resturant was never too busy and the service from Saskia was wonderful. She is an assest to the hotel, she has a great manner and is very helpful and very good at her job. The reception staff are varied, most are helpful and friendly but the one who checked us in had a poor manner and we felt as though we had interupted her from something more interesting than doing her job of welcoming guests. The hotel is a short walk to the tram, which is a great way to get around. TOP TIP buy a Berlin Welcome pass.
"Excellent anniversary weekend! "
My husband and I booked this hotel for our first anniversary getaway and were really happy. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. The breakfast was served in a building out the back of the main hotel and had so much choice. It was all labelled so there was no looking at things for ages wondering what they are (which is often what I do when I go to restaurants abroad). We also had room service delivered on the first of our stay and the amount of food we got for the price was unbelievable as well as the steak being one of the best we'd ever eaten. It is a distance from where all the main attractions are so my advise to anyone who does not like getting on public transport is that this hotel is not for you. Once we had worked out the tram system however it was easy to get to anything we wanted. Just a minute walk left out of the hotel and you're at the tram stop. We did try walking to alexanderplatz on the first day and it took us about 45 minutes and there is nothing of interest on the way down. Inside the room it was carpeted everywhere which was so nice to walk on and the ensuite bathroom was lovely. Super powerful shower and a hairdryer on the wall. Even German radio inbuilt into the wall (if you like that kind of thing). There was sky TV on the huge TV in our room but it was all in German. TV isn't something that bothers us a massive amount but it's nice to have something on in the background when we're getting ready to go out or when we're in bed at night. There is a well stocked mini bar. Some of the items are well over priced but a couple of the drinks were quite reasonable if you are really thirsty. I recommend the fritz kola. You get complimentary bottles of water when you get there too. There is also a supermarket about a 5 minute walk round to the left of the hotel which stocks anything you need anyway. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for couples and for those who like the experience of public transport.
"Good location "
Good hotel great breakfast nice staff and easy to get around once mastered the trams. Need a separate password for each wifi device so make sure you ask for extra passwords at the desk. Big room very nice.
"Amazing weekend away for 21st!"
I celebrated my 21st birthday in Berlin with my boyfriend and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at New Berlin. With great access to the SBahn and Trams, we were able to visit lots of different spots around Berlin. We attended two gigs whilst in Berlin, one at the Astra Kulturhaus which was a brilliant venue! The other was in a quirky bar. We also visited Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum - for anyone interested in history and culture, I'd definitely suggest going, however it is not for the faint hearted. I would definitely stay in this hotel again, it was lovely and clean with great facilities.
"Fine, but a little disappointing"
The Newberlin hotel is in a residential area and will not give you a feeling of being where it all happens. This doesn't have to be a bad thing, depending on what you want. The receptionist was very welcoming upon arrival. I was a little surprised that I had to walk across a large courtyard to a second building to get to my room. This annex was very different from the pictures on-line. The hallway was dark and the room was not light and modern as I had expected. It was "retro" at best and didn't feel like a proper four-star room at all. My view was directly into a condemned building across another courtyard. The breakfast restaurant was in the annex, and the food an service here was good. There are outside seats as well as inside seating. I tried the sauna and relax-area which was much smaller than I had expected. The sauna itself was self serviced and I had to figure out the controls to make it work. The sauna was also quite small, so it's a good thing I was the only person there. I ate at the restaurant one evening. They had run out of my choice, but the steak sandwich I ended up with was very good and delicately prepared. The waiter was also very pleasant. Checkout went really fast.
